Because 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP) and its analogues such as 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) possess similar chemical structures and properties, the reliable and accurate detection of TNP from its ...analogues still remains a challenging task. In the present work, a selective and sensitive method based on the water-soluble silicon nanoparticles (SiNPs) for the determination of TNP was established. The SiNPs with good thermostability and excellent antiphotobleaching capability were prepared via a simple one-pot method. Compared with the synthesized time of other nanomaterials with respect to the detection of TNP, this method avoided a multistep and time-consuming synthesis procedure. Significantly, the fluorescence of the SiNPs could be remarkably quenched by TNP via an inner filter effect. A wide linear range was obtained from 0.02 to 120 μg/mL with a limit of detection of 6.7 ng/mL. The method displayed excellent selectivity toward TNP over other nitroaromatic explosives. The proposed fluorescent method was successfully applied to the analysis of TNP. Moreover, a straightforward and convenient fluorescent filter paper sensor was developed for the detection of TNP, providing a valuable platform for TNP sensing in public safety and security.
Soundscapes have played an important role in the design and building of classical Chinese gardens. In Chinese classical poetry, biophonies such as bird calls, and geophonies such as wind, are the ...preferable sound sources. Although these major sound sources have been categorized and summarized by scholars extensively, little research has been conducted to analyze the physical characteristics and preference matrix of these preferred sound sources. Moreover, the perceived loudness of sound in classical Chinese gardens has received more attention from scholars than acoustic frequency. In this study, we selected 12 sound sources that are most typically present in classical Chinese gardens based on extensive literature research on Chinese classical poetry, and acquired respective audio samples from the BBC's library of Sound Effects. Through the spectrogram analyses, pitch detection algorithm and LSTM audio classification methods, the sound sources were classified into discrete sound sources with pitch variation and continuous sound sources with spectral characteristics of white noise or pink noise. The reasoning behind the preference for these two types of sound sources was then discussed from physical and mental healing perspectives, which aims to help provide perspectives on the associated implications in the planning of urban green spaces.
This work describes a “switch-on” fluorescence approach for sensing of ascorbic acid (AA) in food samples. In the present method, the fluorescence intensity (FL) of carbon quantum dots (CQDs) was ...first quenched by addition of MnO2 nanosheets through an inner filter effect to form a CQDs-MnO2 probe. When reductive AA was introduced into the quenched CQDs solution, the added MnO2 was destroyed due to the redox reaction between AA and MnO2 nanosheets, and the FL of the system was recovered. Under the optimal conditions, the limit of detection for AA was 42 nM, with a wide concentration linear range of 0.18–90 μM. Furthermore, the as-fabricated fluorescent sensing system was successfully applied to the analysis of AA in fresh fruits, vegetables, and commercial fruit juices samples with satisfactory results.
Arsenic (As) is a ubiquitous environmental toxin and robust inducer of oxidative stress (OxS). Copper (Cu) is an essential microelement, which participates in OxS as a cofactor for certain enzymes, ...with narrow optimal range between essential and toxic concentrations. However, their effects are rarely studied in chicken skeletal muscles, which have soaring per capita consumption andare susceptible to oxidative damage. In the present study, we demonstrated that the administration of copper sulfate (300 mg kg−1) or arsenite (30 mg kg−1) individually or their co-administration leads to varying degrees of OxS in the skeletal muscles of chickens. Corresponding to the protein expression pattern, the mRNA levels of caspase, B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2) families, and autophagy-related genes were also compromised in the experimental groups, indicating the involvement of both apoptotic and autophagic cell death. Additionally, rampant mitochondrial fission caused the vicious cycle between imbalanced mitochondrial dynamics and OxS, thus tethering intracellular homeostasis. The abovementioned muscle damage and index anomalies were time dependent, and more deteriorated effects were observed in Cu2+ and arsenite co-administered groups than those in groups administered Cu2+ and arsenite alone. Intriguingly, in the studied skeletal muscles, namely wing biceps brachii and leg gastrocnemius, there were conspicuous differences in oxidative toxicity susceptibility, which needs further study. The present study showed that Cu and/or As induce oxidative damage in chicken skeletal muscles and discussed its mechanism in terms of apoptosis, autophagy, and mitochondrial dynamics, thus voicing concerns about poultry breeding areas cross-contaminated with Cu2+ and arsenite.

•Myoblasts suffer more damage from arsenic than that from copper at the same time point.•Copper exposure provokes an oxidative burden, thus potentiating arsenic toxicity.•Leg gastrocnemius are more vulnerable to oxidative stress than wing biceps.
In this work, we report a durable and sensitive H2O2 biosensor based on boronic acid functionalized metal-organic frameworks (denoted as MIL-100(Cr)-B) as an efficient immobilization matrix of ...horseradish peroxidase (HRP). MIL-100(Cr)-B features a hierarchical porous structure, extremely high surface area, and sufficient recognition sites, which can significantly increase HRP loading and prevent them from leakage and deactivation. The H2O2 biosensor can be easily achieved without any complex processing. Meanwhile, the immobilized HRP exhibited enhanced stability and remarkable catalytic activity towards H2O2 reduction. Under optimal conditions, the biosensor showed a fast response time (less than 4s) to H2O2 in a wide linear range of 0.5–3000μM with a low detection limit of 0.1μM, as well as good anti-interference ability and long-term storage stability. These excellent performances substantially enable the proposed biosensor to be used for the real-time detection of H2O2 released from living cells with satisfactory results, thus showing the potential application in the study of H2O2-involved dynamic pathological and physiological process.
•Hierarchically porous MIL-100(Cr)-B was used for the immobilization of HRP.•The biosensor is durable for high sensitive and selective detection of H2O2.•The biosensor has been successfully used to the real-time detection of H2O2 released from living cells.
This letter presents a new mixed-order MUSIC algorithm for far-field and near-field sources localization using a sparse symmetric array. By exploiting the special array geometry, the proposed ...algorithm constructs a cumulant matrix to estimate the directions of arrival (DOAs) of both far-field and near-field sources using the conventional MUSIC method. With the estimated DOAs and the covariance matrix of the sparse array, the far-field and near-field sources are identified and the range parameters of near-field sources are also obtained by defining the range spectrum. Compared with the traditional algorithms, the proposed algorithm has moderate computation complexity, and provides higher resolution, and also improves the parameters estimation accuracy. Simulation results are provided to demonstrate the performance improvement of the proposed method.
Ovarian cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors of the female reproductive system, which seriously threatens the health of patients. It is of great significance to identify biomarkers to ...improve the clinical status of ovarian cancer patients.
Methylation, RNA- sequencing, Copy number variation (CNV), mutation and clinical characteristics of ovarian cancer and control samples were downloaded from The Cancer Genome Atlas database (TCGA). The “iClusterPlus”. R package was used to cluster the molecular subtypes. The copy number variation of the entire lncRNA genome was analyzed using GISTIC. The prognosis-associated lncRNA related to CNV was screened as potential targets for ovarian cancer.
Six molecular subtypes were identified based on multi-omics analysis and DElncRNAs are significantly enriched in specific molecular subtypes. The deletion or amplification of lncRNA copy number affects the occurrence and development of ovarian cancer to some extent. Three prognostic-associated lncRNA including LOC101927151, LINC00861 and LEMD1-AS1 were selected. These lncRNAs can be used as biomarkers to predict survival in patients with ovarian cancer. The accuracy of results were verified using the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) dataset.
Based on genome-wide copy number variation, prognostic-associated lncRNAs were identified as new biomolecular markers for ovarian cancer.
Yaks living in the high-altitude hypoxic environment of Tibetan plateau (3600 m) have special gut microbes. However, it is still little research on yak probiotics until now. Therefore, the purpose of ...our study was to evaluate the growth promoting effect, antioxidant capability, immune effect, and anti-inflammatory ability of Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus velezensis isolated from Tibetan yaks in mice model.
The results showed that the isolated strains supplementation not only improve the growth performance but also increased the length of villus in the small intestine and intestinal digestive enzyme activity. Importantly, we observed that the T-AOC, SOD, and GSH-PX levels were increased and the MDA content was reduced in probiotic-treated mice, which implied that probiotics supplementation can ameliorate the antioxidative activity of mice. The levels of AST and ALT correlated with the hepatic injury were reduced and the levels of AKP, TP, GLB, ALB, Ca, and P were markedly higher than those in the control group. Additionally, mice treated with probiotics exhibited higher serum IgG, IgM and IgA, which can reflect the immune status to some extent. At the same time, the major pro-inflammatory factor TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-8 were down-regulated and the anti-inflammatory factor IL-10 was up-regulated compared with the control groups.
In conclusion, these results demonstrated that Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus velezensis supplementation can increase overall growth performance and ameliorate the blood parameters related to inflammation and immunity of mice.
The direct hydroxylation of benzene is a green and economical-efficient alternative to the existing cumene process for phenol production. However, the undesired phenol selectivity at high benzene ...conversion hinders its wide application. Here, we develop a one-pot synthesis of protonated g-C3N4 supporting vanadia catalysts (V-pg-C3N4) for the efficient and selective hydroxylation of benzene. Characterizations suggest that protonating g-C3N4 in diluted HCl can boost the generation of amino groups (NH/NH2) without changing the bulk structure. The content of surface amino groups, which determines the dispersion of vanadia, can be easily regulated by the amount of HCl added in the preparation. Increasing the content of surface amino groups benefits the dispersion of vanadia, which eventually leads to improved H2O2 activation and benzene hydroxylation. The optimal catalyst, V-pg-C3N4-0.46, achieves 60% benzene conversion and 99.7% phenol selectivity at 60 oC with H2O2 as the oxidant.
