In this paper, we numerically study pool boiling of a binary (water and nitrogen) mixture on a surface endowed with a combination of hydrophobicity and hydrophilicity (i.e., the so called biphilic surface). Here we adopt a numerical approach based on the phase field theory, where the vapor-liquid interface is assumed to be of a finite thickness (hence diffusive in nature) and requires no explicit tracking schemes. The theoretical modeling of two-phase heat and mass transfer in water diluted with nitrogen demonstrates the significant impact of impurities on bubble dynamics. The simulations show that locally high concentrations of nitrogen gas within the vapor bubble is essential to weakening the condensation effect, which results in sustained bubble growth and ultimately (partial) departure from the surface under the artificially enlarged gravity. Simply increasing the solubility of nitrogen in water, however, turns out to be counterproductive because possible re-dissolution of the aggregated nitrogen by the bulk water could deprive the bubble of vital gas contents, leading instead to continuous bubble shrinkage and collapse. Additionally, it is found that with the significant accumulation of nitrogen, the bubble interface is increasingly dominated by a strong interfacial thermocapillary flow due to the Marangoni effect.
Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have attracted intensive attention as the most promising next‐generation photovoltaic technology because they both enable accelerated development of photovoltaic ...performance and are compatible with low‐cost fabrication methods. The strategy of interface engineering of the perovskite layer in PSCs is expected to result in further enhancement of the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of PSCs via minimizing the charge recombination loss. Here, a high current–voltage (stabilized power output) PCE of 20.4% (19.9%) in CH3NH3PbI3 PSCs under reverse scanning conditions is demonstrated by incorporating a solution‐processed polymer layer of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) between the perovskite photoactive layer and the hole transport layer. Moreover, steady‐state and time‐resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy and impedance spectroscopy are used to reveal the mechanism of the enhancement of the photovoltaic performance and its stability by the PMMA layer in a CH3NH3PbI3 PSC device. The morphology modification, surface passivation, and protection of the perovskite layer by the insulating PMMA layer substantially contribute to the enhancement of photovoltaic performance and its stability, despite a slight reduction of the charge extraction efficiency. The demonstrated high PCEs and insights obtained into the working mechanism of the PMMA layer pave the way for the industrial application of CH3NH3PbI3 PSCs.
Enhanced surface quality of perovskite photoactive layer is demonstrated by incorporation of the poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) engineered passivating layer, which results in highly enhanced power conversion efficiency from 16.8 to 20.4% of standard and PMMA‐incorporated perovskite solar cells, respectively, and reveals the working mechanism of PMMA layer in the perovskite solar cell device.

In this paper, we numerically study particle formation in the rapid expansion of supercritical solution (RESS) process in a two dimensional, axisymmetric geometry, for a benzoic acid+CO2 system. The fluid is described by the classical Navier–Stokes equation, with the thermodynamic pressure being replaced by a generalized pressure tensor. Homogenous particle nucleation, transport, condensation and coagulation are described by a general dynamic equation, which is solved using the method of moments. The results show that the maximal nucleation rate and number density occurs near the nozzle exit, and particle precipitation inside the nozzle might not be ignored. Particles grow mainly across the shocks. Fluid in the shear layer of the jet shows a relatively low temperature, high nucleation rate, and carries particles with small sizes. On the plate, particles within the jet have smaller average size and higher geometric mean, while particles outside the jet shows a larger average size and a lower geometric mean. Increasing the preexpansion temperature will increase both the average particle size and standard deviation. The preexpansion pressure does not show a monotonic dependency with the average particle size. Increasing the distance between the plate and the nozzle exit might decrease the particle size. For all the cases in this paper, the average particle size on the plate is on the order of tens of nanometers.
IntroductionExisting studies on sexual health generally focus on younger populations, while the sexual well-being of older adults has received insufficient attention. This protocol describes the ...design of a study on sexual well-being and its correlates among older adults in China.Methods and analysisWe present the protocol for a multicentre observational study to investigate sexual well-being among Chinese older adults (SWELL). Eligible participants are men and women aged 50 years and older from East, West, South and North China, including older adults living in the community and older adults living with HIV. A multistage sampling approach is used in the SWELL Study. We will collect a questionnaire about sexual health (sexual knowledge, sexual attitude, sexual behaviours, sexually transmitted infections, etc). Blood specimens will be tested for sex hormones (estradiol for women, testosterone for men), biochemical items (eg, cholesterol, triglycerides, low-density lipoprotein, high-density lipoprotein, urea, creatinine and uric acid) and syphilis (determined by toluidine red unheated serum test and Treponema pallidum particle agglutination test). The primary analysis will elucidate the current status of sexual health among older adults in China and its correlates. Secondary analyses will compare sexual well-being among older adults in four regions across China. Approximately 3540 older adults will be recruited into the SWELL Study.Ethics and disseminationThis study was approved by the Human Research Ethics Committee of the School of Public Health (Shenzhen), Sun Yat-sen University (approval number SYSU-PHS2019006). Verbal informed consent will be obtained from all participants before any study procedure. Data will be anonymised, and participants will not be identified through any data, transcripts or publications. Findings from the SWELL Study will be disseminated widely through peer-reviewed scientific journals and at national and international conferences.
The treatment sequence of immunotherapy (IO) and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) is of great importance for the survival of non-small cell lung cancer ...(NSCLC) patients with EGFR sensitive mutation. Here, we reported an advanced lung adenocarcinoma case concurrent with EGFR sensitive mutation and high PD-L1 expression (>50%) that was administrated with gefitinib firstly, and then became resistant to EGFR-TKI. He received the strategy of immunity-combined chemo-radiotherapy and responded significantly. However, the disease re-progressed after 10 months. Surprisingly, the tumor re-sensitized to gefitinib for 13 months. At final, following the treatment pressure of TKI-IO combination therapy-TKI strategy, tumor clone eventually transformed into small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC). For one thing, our study provided novel approach and extended the treatment spectra of overcoming immunotherapy resistance after EGFR resistance in driver oncogene-mutated NSCLC. For another thing, our case is the first time to report that SCLC transformation can be achieved after gefitinib–pembrolizumab–gefitinib resistance in EGFR sensitive mutation NSCLC, providing a new condition for SCLC transformation.
The optimized production of a novel bioflocculant M-C11 produced by Klebsiella sp. and its application in sludge dewatering were investigated. The optimal medium carbon source,nitrogen source, metal ...ion, initial pH and culture temperature for the bioflocculant production were glucose, NaNO3, MgSO4, and pH 7.0 and 25°C, respectively. A compositional analysis indicated that the purified M-C11 consisted of 91.2% sugar, 4.6% protein and 3.9% nucleic acids(m/m). A Fourier transform infrared spectrum confirmed the presence of carboxyl, hydroxyl,methoxyl and amino groups. The microbial flocculant exhibited excellent pH and thermal stability in a kaolin suspension over a pH range of 4.0 to 8.0 and a temperature range of 20 to 60°C.The optimum bioflocculating activity was observed as 92.37% for 2.56 mL M-C11 and 0.37 g/L CaCl2 dosages using response surface methodology. The sludge resistance in filtration(SRF)decreased from 11.6 × 1012 to 4.7 × 1012m/kg, which indicated that the sludge dewaterability was remarkably enhanced by the bioflocculant conditioning. The sludge dewatering performance conditioned by M-C11 was more efficient than that of inorganic flocculating reagents,such as aluminum sulfate and polymeric aluminum chloride. The bioflocculant has advantages over traditional sludge conditioners due to its lower cost, benign biodegradability and negligible secondary pollution. In addition, the bioflocculant was favorably adapted to the specific sludge pH and salinity.

ex20 transdifferentiating from advanced LUSC after chemoradiotherapy. The patient presented reduced hydrothorax and relieved tightness with the treatment of nivolumab plus docetaxel and carboplatin after the failure of second-line chemotherapy. The case highlights the importance of rebiopsy and molecular retesting after the progression of lung cancer and supports the idea that the combination of immune checkpoint blockade and chemotherapy may be an attractive option for patients with
ex20 mutations associated with LUSC-LUAD transformation.
To compare the astigmatism prediction accuracy of total keratometry (TK) from the IOLMaster 700 and total corneal power (TCP) from Anterion based on swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) ...technology in toric intraocular lens (toric IOL) calculation.
A retrospective observational study.
Total corneal astigmatism (TCA) were obtained using IOLMaster 700 and Anterion. Z CALC 2.0 was used to calculate the expected postoperative refractive astigmatism in conjunction with TCA. Prediction errors (PE) in refractive outcomes was analyzed 1 month postoperatively using the vector analysis by the Holladay method, including the mean vector PE magnitude, percentage of cases with vector PE in certain intervals, and the centroid PE.
A total of 56 eyes from 56 patients were enrolled in the study with an insertion of an AT TORBI 709 toric IOL. The difference in mean vector PE of postoperative refractive astigmatism between TK and TCP was not statistically significant (0.48D versus 0.46D,
= 0.281). TK and TCP yielded 27.3 and 40.0% of eyes with vector PE ≤ 0.25D, and 58.2 and 63.6% with vector PE ≤ 0.5D (both
> 0.05), respectively. TK and TCP resulted in similar ATR centroid PE of 0.10D@35° ± 0.60D and 0.15D@22° ± 0.57D, respectively, and there were no significant differences between x-PE component and y-PE component.
IOLMaster 700 and Anterion provided comparable astigmatic predictability in toric IOL implantation using total keratometry and Z CALC 2.0.
Schizophrenia (SZ) is a complex psychiatric disorder with high heritability, and genetic components are thought to be pivotal risk factors for this illness. The glutamate decarboxylase 1 gene (GAD1) ...was hypothesized to be a candidate risk locus for SZ given its crucial role in the GABAergic neurotransmission system, and previous studies have examined the associations of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) spanning the GAD1 gene with SZ. However, inconsistent results were obtained. We hence examined the associations between GAD1 SNPs and SZ in two independent case-control samples of Han Chinese ancestry.
Two Han Chinese SZ case-control samples, referred as the discovery sample and the replication sample, respectively, were recruited for the current study. The discovery sample comprised of 528 paranoid SZ cases (with age of first onset ≥ 18) and 528 healthy controls; the independent replication sample contained 1,256 early onset SZ cases (with age of first onset < 18) and 2,661 healthy controls. Logistic regression analysis was performed to examine the associations between GAD1 SNPs and SZ.
Ten SNPs covering GAD1 gene were analyzed in the discovery sample, and two SNPs showed nominal associations with SZ (rs2241165,
= 0.0181, OR = 1.261; rs2241164,
= 0.0225, OR = 1.219). SNP rs2241164 was also nominally significant in the independent replication sample (
= 0.0462, OR = 1.110), and the significance became stronger in a subsequent meta-analysis combining both discovery and replication samples (
= 0.00398, OR = 1.138). Nevertheless, such association could not survive multiple corrections, although the effect size of rs2241164 was comparable with other SZ risk loci identified in genome-wide association studies (GWAS) in Han Chinese population. We also examined the associations between GAD1 SNPs and SZ in published datasets of SZ GWAS in East Asians and Europeans, and no significant associations were observed.
We observed weak associations between GAD1 SNPs and risk of SZ in Han Chinese populations. Further analyses in larger Han Chinese samples with more detailed phenotyping are necessary to elucidate the genetic correlation between GAD1 SNPs and SZ.
Shared psychopathological features and mechanisms have been observed between schizophrenia (SZ) and bipolar disorder (BD), but their common risk genes and full genetic architectures remain to be ...fully characterized. The genome-wide association study (GWAS) datasets offer the opportunity to explore this scientific question using combined genetic data from enormous samples, ultimately allowing a better understanding of the onset and development of these illnesses.
We have herein performed a genome-wide meta-analysis in two GWAS datasets of SZ and BD respectively (24,600 cases and 40,012 controls in total, discovery sample), followed by replication analyses in an independent sample of 4,918 SZ cases and 5,506 controls of Han Chinese origin (replication sample). The risk SNPs were then explored for their correlations with mRNA expression of nearby genes in multiple expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) datasets.
The single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) rs1637749 and rs3800908 at 7p22.3 region were significant in both discovery and replication samples, and exhibited genome-wide significant associations when combining all East Asian SZ and BD samples (29,518 cases and 45,518 controls). The risk SNPs were also significant in GWAS of SZ and BD among Europeans. Both risk SNPs significantly predicted lower expression of MRM2 in the whole blood and brain samples in multiple datasets, which was consistent with its reduced mRNA level in the brains of SZ patients compared with normal controls. The risk SNPs were also associated with MAD1L1 expression in the whole blood sample.
We have identified a novel genome-wide risk locus associated with SZ and BD in East Asians, adding further support for the putative common genetic risk of the two illnesses. Our study also highlights the necessity and importance of mining public datasets to explore risk genes for complex psychiatric diseases.
