The ultrawideband (UWB) propagation channel is analyzed by means of measurements carried out in the 2-5 GHz frequency band in an office environment for different scenarios. Measurements were ...performed for different polarizations on the transmitting and receiving arrays so the effect of the signal polarization can be also taken into account in the analysis. The main contribution of this paper is not only the analysis of path loss and RMS delay spread in a bandwidth of 3 GHz, but also the influence of frequency on such parameters. The relationship between the path loss for copolar configurations and the cross-polarization discrimination (XPD), both in space and frequency domain, is also addressed.
Heart failure (HF) is a disease with high morbidity and mortality. We evaluated the usefulness of the Comprehensive Management Units for Patients with HF (Unidades de Manejo Integral para Pacientes ...con IC UMIPIC) programme.
We analysed the patient data from the UMIPIC programme, which was recorded in the HF registry (RICA) of the Spanish Society of Internal Medicine. We compared emergency department visits and hospitalisations for any cause and for HF during the year prior to inclusion in the programme against those that occurred during the subsequent follow-up year, using the chi-squared test.
A total of 258 patients (mean age, 80years; 51.9% women) were included in the study. During the previous year, there were 693 hospitalisations for all causes and 174 hospitalisations during the follow-up (75% reduction, P<.001). There were 613 hospitalisations for HF during the previous year and 92 during the follow-up (85% reduction, P<.001); 655 vs. 302 in terms of emergency department visits for any cause (53.9% reduction, P<.001); and 440 vs. 120 for emergency department visits for HF (72% reduction, P<.001). There were no significant differences in the number of hospitalisations or emergency department visits for causes other than HF.
The UMIPIC programme based on the comprehensive care of elderly patients with HF and comorbidity reduces the rate of hospital readmissions and emergency department visits during the first year of follow-up.
This report shows the PCR-based identification of the eight known self-(in)compatibility alleles (S1 to S7 and S(c)) of apricot (Prunus armeniaca L.). Two sets of consensus primers, designed from P. ...armeniaca S-RNase genomic sequences and sweet cherry (P. avium L.) S-RNase-cDNAs, were used to amplify fragments containing the first and the second S-RNase intron, respectively. When the results obtained from the two PCRs were combined, all S-alleles could be distinguished. The identity of the amplified S-alleles was verified by sequencing the first intron and 135 base pairs (bp) of the second exon. The deduced amino acid sequences of these fragments showed the presence of the C1 and C2 Prunus L. S-RNase conserved regions. These results allowed us to confirm S-genotypes previously assigned by stylar ribonuclease analyses and to propose one self-(in)compatibility group (I) and one universal donor group (O) containing unique S-genotypes and self-compatible cultivars (SC). This PCR-based typing system also facilitates the identification of the S(c)-allele and might be a very useful tool for predicting self-compatibility in apricot breeding progenies.

Radiochemotherapy achieves 5-year bladder intact survival of 40 to 65% and 5-year overall survival of 40 to 50% with excellent quality of life. This article introduces the French recommendations for radiotherapy of bladder cancer: indications, exams, technique, dosimetry, delivery and image guidance.
A genetic linkage map of apricot ( Prunus armeniaca L.) was constructed using AFLP and SSR markers. The map is based on an F(2) population (76 individuals) derived from self-pollination of an F(1) ...individual ('Lito') originated from a cross between 'Stark Early Orange' and 'Tyrinthos'. This family, designated as 'Lito' x 'Lito', segregated for two important agronomical traits: plum pox virus resistance (PPV) and self-incompatibility. A total of 211 markers (180 AFLPs, 29 SSRs and two agronomic traits) were assigned to 11 linkage groups covering 602 cM of the apricot genome. The average distance (cM/marker) between adjacent markers is 3.84 cM. The PPV resistance trait was mapped on linkage group G1 and the self-incompatibility trait was mapped on linkage group G6. Twenty two loci held in common with other Prunus maps allowed us to compare and establish homologies among the respective linkage groups.
The gametophytic self-incompatibility (GSI) system in Rosaceae has been proposed to be controlled by two genes located in the S-locus: an S-RNase and a recently described pollen expressed S-haplotype ...specific F-box gene (SFB). However, in apricot (Prunus armeniaca L.) these genes had not been identified yet. We have sequenced 21 kb in total of the S-locus region in 3 different apricot S-haplotypes. These fragments contain genes homologous to the S-RNase and F-box genes found in other Prunus species, preserving their basic gene structure features and defined amino acid domains. The physical distance between the F-box and the S-RNase genes was determined exactly in the S2-haplotype (2.9 kb) and inferred approximately in the S1-haplotype (< 49 kb) confirming that these genes are linked. Sequence analysis of the 5' flanking regions indicates the presence of a conserved region upstream of the putative TATA box in the S-RNase gene. The three identified S-RNase alleles (S1, S2 and S4) had a high allelic sequence diversity (75.3% amino acid identity), and the apricot F-box allelic variants (SFB1, SFB2 and SFB4) were also highly haplotype-specific (79.4% amino acid identity). Organ specific-expression was also studied, revealing that S1- and S2-RNases are expressed in style tissues, but not in pollen or leaves. In contrast, SFB1 and SFB2 are only expressed in pollen, but not in styles or leaves. Taken together, these results support these genes as candidates for the pistil and pollen S-determinants of GSI in apricot.

. The energy correction techniques that incorporate sophisticated estimates of the average pile-up energy density and tracking information are presented. Jet-to-vertex association techniques are discussed and projections of performance for the future are considered. Lastly, the extension of these techniques to mitigate the effect of pile-up on jet shapes using subtraction and grooming procedures is presented.
