We report the observation of the rare charm decay D0→K−π+e+e−, based on 468 fb−1 of e+e− annihilation data collected at or close to the center-of-mass energy of the ϒ(4S) resonance with the BABAR ...detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. We find the branching fraction in the invariant mass range 0.675<m(e+e−)<0.875 GeV/c2 of the electron-positron pair to be B(D0→K−π+e+e−)=(4.0±0.5±0.2±0.1)×10−6, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third due to the uncertainty in the branching fraction of the decay D0→K−π+π+π− used as a normalization mode. The significance of the observation corresponds to 9.7 standard deviations including systematic uncertainties. This result is consistent with the recently reported D0→K−π+μ+μ− branching fraction, measured in the same invariant mass range, and with the value expected in the standard model. In a set of regions of m(e+e−), where long-distance effects are potentially small, we determine a 90% confidence level upper limit on the branching fraction B(D0→K−π+e+e−)<3.1×10−6.
We present first evidence that the cosine of the CP-violating weak phase 2β is positive, and hence exclude trigonometric multifold solutions of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) Unitarity Triangle ...using a time-dependent Dalitz plot analysis of B^{0}→D^{(*)}h^{0} with D→K_{S}^{0}π^{+}π^{-} decays, where h^{0}∈{π^{0},η,ω} denotes a light unflavored and neutral hadron. The measurement is performed combining the final data sets of the BABAR and Belle experiments collected at the ϒ(4S) resonance at the asymmetric-energy B factories PEP-II at SLAC and KEKB at KEK, respectively. The data samples contain (471±3)×10^{6}BBover ¯ pairs recorded by the BABAR detector and (772±11)×10^{6}BBover ¯ pairs recorded by the Belle detector. The results of the measurement are sin2β=0.80±0.14(stat)±0.06(syst)±0.03(model) and cos2β=0.91±0.22(stat)±0.09(syst)±0.07(model). The result for the direct measurement of the angle β of the CKM Unitarity Triangle is β=22.5±4.4(stat)±1.2(syst)±0.6(model)°. The measurement assumes no direct CP violation in B^{0}→D^{(*)}h^{0} decays. The quoted model uncertainties are due to the composition of the D^{0}→K_{S}^{0}π^{+}π^{-} decay amplitude model, which is newly established by performing a Dalitz plot amplitude analysis using a high-statistics e^{+}e^{-}→ccover ¯ data sample. CP violation is observed in B^{0}→D^{(*)}h^{0} decays at the level of 5.1 standard deviations. The significance for cos2β>0 is 3.7 standard deviations. The trigonometric multifold solution π/2-β=(68.1±0.7)° is excluded at the level of 7.3 standard deviations. The measurement resolves an ambiguity in the determination of the apex of the CKM Unitarity Triangle.

We present a study of the decays B^{0,+} --> J/psi pi^+ pi^- pi^0 K^{0,+}, using 467 10^6 BBbar pairs recorded with the BABAR detector. We present evidence for the decay mode X(3872) --> J/psi omega, ...with product branching fractions B(B^+ --> X(3872)K^+) B(X(3872) --> J/psi omega) =0.6\pm0.2\stat \pm 0.1\syst 10^{-5}, and B(B^0 --> X(3872)K^0) B(X(3872) --> J/psi omega) =0.6\pm0.3\stat \pm 0.1\syst 10^{-5}. A detailed study of the pi^+ pi^- pi^0 mass distribution from X(3872) decay favors a negative-parity assignment.
The processes e+e−→KS0K±π∓π0 and e+e−→KS0K±π∓η are studied over a continuum of energies from threshold to 4 GeV with the initial-state photon radiation method. Using 454 fb−1 of data collected with ...the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II storage ring, the first measurements of the cross sections for these processes are obtained. The intermediate resonance structures from K*0(Kπ)0, K*(892)±(Kπ)∓, and KS0K±ρ∓ are studied. The J/ψ is observed in all of these channels, and corresponding branching fractions are measured.
We study the processes γγ→KS0K±πℓ and γγ→K+K-π0 using a data sample of 519 fb-1 recorded with the BABAR detector operating at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider at center-of-mass ...energies at and near the Υ(nS) (n=2, 3, 4) resonances. We observe ηc decays to both final states and perform Dalitz plot analyses using a model-independent partial wave analysis technique. This allows a model-independent measurement of the mass-dependence of the I=1/2 Kπ S-wave amplitude and phase. A comparison between the present measurement and those from previous experiments indicates similar behavior for the phase up to a mass of 1.5 GeV/c2. In contrast, the amplitudes show very marked differences. The data require the presence of a new a0(1950) resonance with parameters m=1931±14±22 MeV/c2 and Γ=271±22±29 MeV.
Here we perform the first measurement on the D0-D0 mixing parameters using a time-dependent amplitude analysis of the decay D0→π+π-π0. The data were recorded with the BABAR detector at center-of-mass ...energies at and near the $Y$(4S) resonance, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of approximately 468.1 fb-1. The neutral D meson candidates are selected from D*(2010)+→D0π$+\atop{s}$ decays where the flavor at the production is identified by the charge of the low-momentum pion, π$+\atop{s}$. The measured mixing parameters are x=(1.5±1.2±0.6)% and y=(0.2±0.9±0.5)%, where the quoted uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.
We have performed a search for the η b ( 1 S ) meson in the radiative decay of the Υ ( 2 S ) resonance using a sample of 91.6 × 10 6 Υ ( 2 S ) events recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B ...factory at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. We observe a peak in the photon energy spectrum at E γ = 609.3 + 4.6 − 4.5 ( stat ) ± 1.9 ( syst ) MeV , corresponding to an η b ( 1 S ) mass of 9394.2 + 4.8 − 4.9 ( stat ) ± 2.0 ( syst ) MeV / c 2 . The branching fraction for the decay Υ ( 2 S ) → γ η b ( 1 S ) is determined to be 3.9 ± 1.1 ( stat ) + 1.1 − 0.9 ( syst ) × 10 − 4 . We find the ratio of branching fractions B Υ ( 2 S ) → γ η b ( 1 S ) / B Υ ( 3 S ) → γ η b ( 1 S ) = 0.82 ± 0.24 ( stat ) + 0.20 − 0.19 ( syst ) .
Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airway which is often misdiagnosed and undertreated. Early diagnosis and vigilant asthma control are crucial to preventing permanent airway damage, ...improving quality of life and reducing healthcare burdens. The key approaches to asthma management should include patient empowerment through health education and selfmanagement and, an effective patient-healthcare provider partnership.
We report the measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa CP-violating angle γ through a Dalitz plot analysis of neutral D-meson decays to K(S)(0) π+ π- and K(S)(0) K+ K- produced in the processes ...B∓ → DK∓, B∓ D* K∓ with D* → Dπ(0), Dγ, and B∓ → DK*∓ with K*∓ → K(S)(0) π∓, using 468 million BB pairs collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+ e- collider at SLAC. We measure γ = (68 ± 14 ± 4 ± 3)° (modulo 180°), where the first error is statistical, the second is the experimental systematic uncertainty, and the third reflects the uncertainty in the description of the neutral D decay amplitudes. This result is inconsistent with γ = 0 (no direct CP violation) with a significance of 3.5 standard deviations.
Using a sample of (470.9±2.8)×106 BB¯ pairs, we measure the decay branching fraction B(B0→D*−π+π−π+)=(7.26±0.11±0.31)×10−3, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. ...Our measurement will be helpful in studies of lepton universality by measuring B(B0→D*−τ+ντ) using τ+→π+π−π+ν¯τ decays, normalized to B(B0→D*−π+π−π+).
