Adipocytic tumours are the most common soft tissue neoplasms. Among them, liposarcoma is the most frequent malignant neoplasm. However, to the best of our knowledge, no previously published study has ...assessed the evolution and oncological prognosis of the different subtypes of liposarcoma at the retroperitoneal level compared with at other locations. The present study is a retrospective observational study in which all patients were operated on between October 2000 and January 2020 with a histological diagnosis of liposarcoma. Variables, such as age, sex, location, histological type, recurrence, type of treatment and mortality, among others, were analysed. The patients were divided into two groups: Group A (retroperitoneal location) and group B (non-retroperitoneal location). A total of 52 patients with a diagnosis of liposarcoma (17 women and 35 men) and a mean age of 57.2+ or -15.9 years were assessed. A total of 16 patients were classified into group A and 36 into group B. The OR of recurrence was 1.5 (P=0.02) for R1 vs. R0 resection in group A. The OR of recurrence in group B for R1 vs. R0 resection was 1.8 (P=0.77), whereas for R2 vs. R0 resection, the OR was 69 (P=0.011). In conclusion, 52 cases of malignant adipocytic tumours collected during 2000-2020 were analysed with the new World Health Organization classification (updated 2020). Although its recurrence potential and capacity for distant metastasis depended on each histological type, surgical treatment with unaffected margins was the main prognostic factor for survival. The present study identified differences in relation to the survival of each histological subtype and its location, finding greater survival in dedifferentiated liposarcoma, myxoid liposarcoma and pleomorphic liposarcoma located at the extraperitoneal level than in the retroperitoneal location. Resectability was not influenced by liposarcoma location.
Tritordeum is a new cereal resistant to drought and high temperatures, and it is a very healthy crop. The aim of this study was to compare two different diets (tritordeum meadow vs. oat meadow) for ...grazing pregnant ewes to determine if there was any effect on the objective physiological indicators of animal welfare. A total of 150 pregnant Merino ewes (3–5 years) were randomly divided into two groups (n = 75 each) to be fed with two different meadows, being evaluated during the spring season. Red blood cells count, haemoglobin, packed cell volume, white blood cell count, neutrophiles/lymphocytes ratio, lactate dehydrogenase, creatinine phosphokinase, aspartate aminotransferase, glucose, cortisol, total plasma proteins, albumin, globulins, albumin/globulins ratio, alkaline phosphatase, glutamate dehydrogenase, IgA, and IgG were determined. Overall, the results of this study indicate that the welfare of pregnant ewes fed with tritordeum meadow was better than that of pregnant ewes fed with oat meadow. Tritordeum meadow had a positive influence on the physiological parameters of animal welfare studied in pregnant Merino ewes. Therefore, tritordeum meadow can be considered a functional feed, as it has a beneficial effect on health beyond its basic nutritional value. Farmers are recommended to feed a cereal such as tritordeum grassland to their sheep, as it not only ensures that the animals benefit from all the nutrients, but also prevents diseases and improves their quality of life. In addition, the cereal’s resistance to fungal diseases makes it suitable for use in sustainable production systems with a reduced environmental footprint.

The digital entertainment sector is one of the fastest growing in recent years. In the case of video games, the productions of some of the most popular titles are on a par with film productions. The ...sale of video games is in the millions, and yet there are few works on the recommendation of video games. In this work a hybrid system of video game recommendation is presented, through the use of collaborative filtering and content-based filtering, and the construction of relationship graphs. In order to improve the recommendations, a new method for estimating implicit ratings is proposed that takes into account the hours of play. The proposed recommender system improves the results of other techniques presented in the state of the art.
Context: The use of social marketing to modify lifestyle choices could be helpful in reducing youth obesity. Some or all of the 8 domains of the National Social Marketing Centre’s social marketing ...benchmark criteria (SMBC) are often used but not always defined in intervention studies. Objective: The aim of this review is to assess the effectiveness of European school-based interventions to prevent obesity relative to the inclusion of SMBC domains in the intervention. Data Sources: The PubMed, Cochrane, and ERIC databases were used. Study Selection: Nonrandomized and randomized controlled trials conducted from 1990 to April 2014 in participants aged 5 to 17 years were included. Data Extraction: After the study selection, the 8 domains of the SMBC were assessed in each included study. Results: Thirty-eight publications were included in the systematic review. For the meta-analysis, randomized controlled trials (RCTs) reporting body mass index or prevalence of overweight and obesity were considered. Eighteen RCTs with a total of 8681 participants included at least 5 SMBC. The meta-analysis showed a small standardized mean difference in body mass index of −0.25 (95%CI, −0.45 to −0.04) and a prevalence of overweight and obesity odds ratio of 0.72 (95%CI, 0.5–0.97). Conclusion: Current evidence indicates that the inclusion of at least 5 SMBC domains in school-based interventions could benefit efforts to prevent obesity in young people.

Currently, urine samples for bacterial or fungal infections require a long diagnostic period (48 h). In the present work, a point-of-care device known as an electronic nose (eNose) has been designed ...based on the "smell print" of infections, since each one emits various volatile organic compounds (VOC) that can be registered by the electronic systems of the device and recognized in a very short time. Urine samples were analyzed in parallel using urine culture and eNose technology. A total of 203 urine samples were analyzed, of which 106 were infected and 97 were not infected. A principal component analysis (PCA) was performed using these data. The algorithm was initially capable of correctly classifying 49% of the total samples. By using SVM-based models, it is possible to improve the accuracy of the classification up to 74% when randomly using 85% of the data for training and 15% for validation. The model is evaluated as having a correct classification rate of 74%. In conclusion, the diagnostic accuracy of the eNose in urine samples is high, promising and amenable for further improvement, and the eNose has the potential to become a feasible, reproducible, low-cost and high-precision device to be applied in clinical practice for the diagnosis of urinary tract infections.
Abstract
The CD38 cell surface receptor is a potent activator for splenic, B lymphocytes. The molecular mechanisms regulating this response, however, remain incompletely characterized. Activation of ...the nonreceptor tyrosine kinase, Btk, is essential for CD38 downstream signaling function. The major Btk-dependent substrate in B cells, phospholipase C-γ2 (PLC-γ2), functions to generate the key secondary messengers, inositol-1,4,5 trisphosphate and diacylglycerol. Surprisingly, CD38 ligation results in no detectable increase in phosphoinositide metabolism and only a minimal increase in cytosolic calcium. We hypothesized that Btk functioned independently of PLC-γ2 in the CD38 signaling pathway. Accordingly, we demonstrate that CD38 cross-linking does not result in the functional phosphorylation of PLC-γ2 nor an increase in inositol-1,4,5 trisphosphate production. Furthermore, splenic B cells exhibit a normal CD38-mediated, proliferative response in the presence of the phosphoinositide-PLC inhibitor, U73122. Conversely, protein kinase C (PKC) β-deficient mice, or PKC inhibitors, indicated the requirement for diacylglycerol-dependent PKC isoforms in this pathway. Loss of PKC activity blocked CD38-dependent, B cell proliferation, NF-κB activation, and subsequent expression of cyclin-D2. These results suggested that an alternate diacylglycerol-producing phospholipase must participate in CD38 signaling. Consistent with this idea, CD38 increased the enzymatic activity of the phosphatidylcholine (PC)-metabolizing enzymes, PC-PLC and phospholipase D. The PC-PLC inhibitor, D609, completely blocked CD38-dependent B cell proliferation, IκB-α degradation, and cyclin-D2 expression. Analysis of Btk mutant B cells demonstrated a partial requirement for Btk in the activation of both enzymes. Taken together, these data demonstrate that CD38 initiates a novel signaling cascade leading to Btk-, PC-PLC-, and phospholipase D-dependent, PLC-γ2-independent, B lymphocyte activation.
Penetrating injuries of the cranium are relatively uncommon, only 0.4% of all head injuries. In patients with disturbed conscious level, an extensive examination should be performed in the emergency ...unit to rule out transorbital penetrating brain injury. A 25-year-old male was attacked with a dagger. He presented with ethylic intoxication and the physical examination demonstrated a small skin injury on the lateral canthus of the left eye with a large periocular hematoma which prevented eyelid opening. Cranial CT scan showed a metallic intraorbital foreign body consisting of a fragment of a dagger which perforated the eyeball, and penetrated through the superomedial wall of the orbit into the anterior cranial fossa. Reconstruction of the eyeball was performed and the fragment was removed. Orbital injuries with a knife in situ are very unusual. Early identification and removal of retained foreign bodies are essential.
The “Ludoteca Jurídica” is a digital platform that was born as a bet for the teaching innovation in law, particularly “gamification”. This paper aims to explain the origins of such an educational ...project, its foundation, its objectives, its content —with special mention of the educational games— and the different forms of collaboration. We are facing an educational platform that postulates the defense of “gamification” as a complementary methodology, seeks the creation of a national network of “gamifiers” and aims to promote shared education, as well as the use of new technologies in the teaching of legal disciplines
La “Ludoteca Jurídica” es una plataforma digital que nace como apuesta por la innovación docente en Derecho, particularmente por la “gamificación”. El presente trabajo pretende exponer los orígenes de tal proyecto educativo, su fundamento, sus objetivos, su contenido —con especial mención a las fichas de juegos educativos— y las distintas formas de colaboración. Estamos ante una plataforma educativa que postula la defensa de la “gamificación” como metodología complementaria, busca la creación de una red nacional de “gamificadores” y pretende fomentar la educación compartida, así como el uso de las nuevas tecnologías en la enseñanza de las disciplinas jurídicas.
