Current protocols in patients with glioblastoma include performing an MR examination shortly after surgery and then 2-6 weeks after ending concomitant chemoradiotherapy. The assessment of this first ...postradiotherapy examination is challenging because the pseudoprogression phenomenon may appear. The aim of this study was to explore if performing an MR examination shortly before radiation therapy (preradiotherapy MR imaging) could improve the radiologic assessment of patients with glioblastoma.
A preradiotherapy MR imaging examination was prospectively performed before the start of radiation therapy in 28 consecutive patients with glioblastoma who had undergone surgical resection. Tumor response to chemoradiotherapy was assessed twice: with the early postoperative MR examination as baseline and with the preradiotherapy MR imaging examination as baseline. In addition, tumor growth in the preradiotherapy MR imaging examination was evaluated, and its correlation with patient survival was assessed with Kaplan-Meier analysis and Cox regression.
Tumor progression after radiation therapy was found in 16 patients, corresponding to pseudoprogression in 7 of them (44%). Four assessments of pseudoprogression switched to partial response or stable disease when preradiotherapy MR imaging was the baseline examination, and the ratio of pseudoprogression was reduced to 25% (3 of 12). Significant differences in survival were found when patients were stratified according to the pattern of tumor growth on preradiotherapy MR imaging (median overall survival "no-growth," 837 days; "focal-growth," 582 days; "global-growth," 344 days; P = .001).
Performing a preradiotherapy MR imaging examination may improve the clinical management of patients with glioblastoma by reducing the ratio of pseudoprogression assessments and providing prognostic information.

All together, they cover different phenotypes and hallmarks of cell motility and adhesion, providing orthogonal information that can be used either individually or collectively in many different experimental setups. These optimized protocols will facilitate physiological and cellular characterization of these processes, which may be used for fast screening of specific therapeutic cancer drugs for migratory function, novel strategies in cancer diagnosis, and for assaying new molecules involved in adhesion and invasion metastatic properties of cancer cells.

nm. XRD results indicate that the PMo is adsorbed on the micropore wall, that it is highly dispersed and that it does not develop any crystalline phase.
Wildlife hunting is an important economic activity that contributes to the subsistence of indigenous peoples and the maintenance of their cultural identity. Changes in indigenous peoples’ ways of ...life affect the way they manage the ecosystems and resources around them, including wildlife populations. This paper explores the relationship between cultural change, or detachment from traditional culture, and hunting behaviour among the Tsimane’, an indigenous group in the Bolivian Amazon. We interviewed 344 hunters in 39 villages to estimate their hunting activity and the degree of cultural change among them. We used multilevel analyses to assess the relationships between three different proxies for cultural change at the individual level (schooling, visits to a market town, and detachment from tradition), and the following two independent variables: 1) probability of engaging in hunting (i.e., hunting activity) and 2) hunting efficiency with catch per unit effort (CPUE). We found a statistically significant negative association between schooling and hunting activity. Hunting efficiency (CPUE biomass/km) was positively associated with visits to a market town, when holding other co-variates in the model constant. Other than biophysical factors, such as game abundance, hunting is also conditioned by social factors (e.g., schooling) that shape the hunters’ cultural system and impel them to engage in hunting or deter them from doing so.
Service‐oriented e‐learning platforms can be considered as a third generation of learning management systems (LMSs). As opposed to the previous generations, consisting of ad hoc solutions and ...traditional LMS, this new technology contemplates e‐learning systems as services that can be integrated into different learning scenarios. This paper shows that the flexibility of these systems allows building personal learning environments and proposes the use of an extended technology acceptance model (TAM) to assess the acceptance and intention to use a third generation of LMS. To fit and validate the service‐oriented e‐learning platforms acceptance model, structural equation modeling and path analysis have been implemented. The results point out that the intention to use this third‐generation LMS is determined by the gadgets and container design, both of which are structural elements of this technology. Finally, it is also shown that previous experience does not determine the use intention of this technology.
Abstract As biological and linguistic diversity, the world’s cultural diversity is on decline. However, to date there are no estimates of the rate at which the specific cultural traits of a group ...disappear, mainly because we lack empirical data to assess how the cultural traits of a given population change over time. Here we estimate changes in cultural traits associated to the traditional knowledge of wild plant uses among an Amazonian indigenous society. We collected data among 1151 Tsimane’ Amerindians at two periods of time. Results show that between 2000 and 2009, Tsimane’ adults experienced a net decrease in the report of plant uses ranging from 9% (for the female subsample) to 26% (for the subsample of people living close to towns), equivalent to 1% to 3% per year. Results from a Monte Carlo simulation show that the observed changes were not the result of randomness. Changes were more acute for men than for women and for informants living in villages close to market towns than for informants settled in remote villages. The Tsimane’ could be abandoning their traditional knowledge as they perceive that this form of knowledge does not equip them well to deal with the new socio-economic and cultural conditions they face nowadays.
Now-a-days, email is often one of the most widely used means of communication despite the rise of other communication methods such as instant messaging or communication via social networks. The need ...to automate the email stream management increases for reasons such as multi-folder categorization, and spam email classification. There are solutions based on email content, capable of contemplating elements such as the text subjective nature, adverse effects of concept drift, among others. This paper presents an email stream classifier with a goal-oriented approach to client and server environment. The i* language was the basis for designing the proposed email stream classifier. The email environment was represented with the early requirements model and the proposed classifier with the late requirements model. The classifier was implemented following a multi-agent system approach supported by JADE agent platform and Implementation_JADE pattern. The behavior of agents was taking from an existing classifier. The multi-agent classifier was evaluated using functional, efficacy and performance tests, which compared the existing classifier with the multi-agent approach. The results obtained were satisfactory in all the tests. The performance of multi-agent approach was better than the existing classifier due to the use of multi-threads.
Given the scarcity of studies linking exercise addiction to intimate partner violence, the present study aims to analyze the relationship between these variables and examine the potential mediating ...roles of emotional dependence, impulsivity, and self-esteem. This is a non-experimental, cross-sectional correlational design study. The sample comprised 887 university students (86% women, mean age 20.82 years, SD = 3.63). Elevated levels of exercise addiction were associated with increased impulsivity, emotional dependence, and exerted violence, as well as decreased self-esteem and perceived violence. Mediation models were tested, explaining 7% of the variance in received violence, 13% of the variance in exerted violence, and 6% of the variance in perceived violence. Higher levels of exercise addiction were linked to increased received and exerted violence and decreased perceived violence, attributed to the positive impact of exercise addiction on emotional dependence. This study highlights the mediating roles of self-esteem and impulsivity in the relationship between exercise addiction and partner violence. Identifying risk or vulnerability factors such as emotional dependence, impulsivity, and self-esteem related to exercise addiction and interpersonal partner violence is especially relevant for designing and implementing preventive interventions in the general young population.

The collective dynamics in populations of magnetic spin torque oscillators (STO) is an intensely studied topic in modern magnetism. Here, we show that arrays of STO coupled via dipolar fields can be ...modeled using a variant of the Kuramoto model, a well-known mathematical model in non-linear dynamics. By investigating the collective dynamics in arrays of STO we find that the synchronization in such systems is a finite size effect and show that the critical coupling-for a complete synchronized state-scales with the number of oscillators. Using realistic values of the dipolar coupling strength between STO we show that this imposes an upper limit for the maximum number of oscillators that can be synchronized. Further, we show that the lack of long range order is associated with the formation of topological defects in the phase field similar to the two-dimensional XY model of ferromagnetism. Our results shed new light on the synchronization of STO, where controlling the mutual synchronization of several oscillators is considered crucial for applications.
