1. A study of the release of juvenile hormone (JH) by in vitro-incubated corpora allata (CA) and on the development of the accessory reproductive glands (ARG) during sexual maturation of male ...Blattella germanica has been performed. 2. JH release rates are comparable with those observed in previtellogenic females. 3. The ARG undergo a progressive increase in size and protein content during sexual maturation. 4. After CA removal, ARG protein accumulation is reduced (by 50%) in comparison with controls, and administration of exogenous JH restores normal development. 5. The involvement of JH in ARG growth is discussed.
The CREAM (Cosmic Ray Energetics And Mass) experiment was constructed for the measurement of high-energy cosmic rays in the energy range between 1012 and 1015 eV. As a long duration balloon payload, ...the CREAM had its first successful flight in December 2004 from McMurdo Station, Antarctica. For the charge measurement of incident cosmic-ray particles entering the calorimeter module, a layer of the SCD (Silicon Charge Detector) made of 2912 silicon pixels was built with an active area of 779 × 795 mm2. This paper describes the performance of the SCD during the 2004-2005 flight.? The CREAM (Cosmic Ray Energetics And Mass) experiment was constructed for the measurement

The measurement of cosmic-ray individual spectra provides unique information regarding the origin and propagation of astro-particles. Due to the limited acceptance of current space experiments, ...protons and nuclei around the "knee" region (\(\sim1\ PeV\)) can only be observed by ground based experiments. Thanks to an innovative design, the High Energy cosmic-Radiation Detection (HERD) facility will allow direct observation up to this energy region: the instrument is mainly based on a 3D segmented, isotropic and homogeneous calorimeter which properly measures the energy of particles coming from each direction and it will be made of about 7500 LYSO cubic crystals. The read-out of the scintillation light is done with two independent systems: the first one based on wave-length shifting fibers coupled to Intensified scientific CMOS cameras, the second one is made of two photo-diodes with different active areas connected to a custom front-end electronics. This photo-diode system is designed to achieve a huge dynamic range, larger than \(10^7\), while having a small power consumption, few mW per channel. Thanks to a good signal-to-noise ratio, the capability of a proper calibration, by using signals of both non-interacting and showering particles, is also guaranteed. In this paper, the current design and the performance obtained by several tests of the photo-diode read-out system are discussed.
This volume concentrates on the substantive gaps in the IB/IM field and addresses whether these gaps are resolvable with our current theoretical and methodological toolkit. This entails three ...specific queries about the past and present: Have our theories advanced some combination of explanation and prediction? Have our methods proven to be effective in providing rigorous, robust and consistent evidence with respect to the explanatory and predictive validity of our theories? Have we studied the right phenomena in the right way?
Home garden is a habitat for many plants species which are important in planning and management of tourism in rural area. Ornamental plants have crucial function to increase the appearance of homes ...and buildings through landscaping. The purpose of this study is to analyze ornamental plants species which grow in the home garden along the corridor of Kopendukuh Village as one of the potential attractions of tourism development. The observation of ornamental plants diversity was carried out at home gardens along the rural coridor of Kopendukuh Village. Totally, there are about 10 home gardens were assessed. In each home gardens, plans species were recorded and identified systematically. Qualitative analysis was performed using analysis of sociability, vitality, and periodicity. Result of the survey confirm that home garden is home of about 40 ornamental plants species. These species came from 24 family. About 59% of the ornamental species was classified as individual plant species live in small groups, 28% of ornamental plant was classified as shrubs. About 65% of are ornamental plant without flowers and seeds. The diversity of plants in home garden needs special attention, especially in order to increase settlement visual quality.
We report a study of 2 surgical approaches to the knee in 42 consecutive patients undergoing a total arthroplasty. They were divided into 2 groups. In Group 1 (n=17) the knee was exposed through ...classic medial parapatellar arthrotomy and in Group 2 (n=25) the knee was approached through the fibers of the medial vastus. Preoperative assessment did not reveal any statistical differences between the groups, and blood loss, operation time, biochemistry values and radiographic evaluation were also similar. However, a higher number of lateral releases, a loss of knee extension and a reduced range of motion were significantly associated with classical parapatellar arthrotomy. As the number of operative or postoperative complications was not increased, we recommend the mid-vastus approach for total knee arthroplasty.
