The cross sections of forward emission of one, two and three neutrons by 158A GeV 115In nuclei in collisions with Al, Cu, Sn and Pb targets are reported. The measurements were performed in the ...framework of the ALICE-LUMI experiment at the SPS facility at CERN. Various corrections accounting for the absorption of beam nuclei and produced neutrons in target material and surrounding air were introduced. The corrected cross section data are compared with the predictions of the RELDIS model for electromagnetic fragmentation of 115In in ultraperipheral collisions, as well as with the results of the abrasion-ablation model for neutron emission in hadronic interactions. The measured neutron emission cross sections well agree with the RELDIS results, with the exception of In-Al collisions where the measured cross sections are larger compared to RELDIS. This is attributed to a relatively large contribution of hadronic fragmentation of In on Al target with respect to electromagnetic fragmentation, on the contrary to similar measurements performed earlier with 30A GeV 208Pb colliding with Al.
The new superconducting accelerator Nuclotron have been operated for the first time at 3.8 and 6.2 GeV/c deuteron momentum and the run on the internal target have been carried out in March'94. The ...various scintillation counters for ΔE-E and time-of-flight (TOF) measurements, the silicon and CsI(Tl) crystal detectors for ΔE-E measurements as well, and the lead glass EM calorimeters were used. The secondary particles γ, π, K, p, d, and t as well as He fragments produced by deuterons on the internal targets were detected and identified relaibly, thus manifestating a broad perspective of the relativistic nuclear physics research on Nuclotron in the nearest future.
Long-term results of electroimpulse treatment for cardiac fibrillation in 1292 patients performed in cardiological clinics of Moscow and Kaunas have been compared. It is shown that more strict ...selection, longer preparation for the impulse exposure may secure a significant decrease in the number of the fibrillation recurrences both 1 and 6 months after recovery of the normal rhythm.
To prevent inflammatory processes in the mucous membrane of the upper respiratory tract during early periods after tonsillectomy (2-7 days) the authors practiced inhalations of the extract of Eastern ...poplar leaf buds in 40 patients with chronic tonsillitis after the operation. The use of the extract of Eastern poplar leaf buds at early periods after tonsillectomy promotes abating of pains, speedy cicatrization of postoperative wounds, decrease of reactive inflammation in the pharynx and improvement of the general condition in the patients.
