Group 15 elements in zero oxidation state (P, As, Sb and Bi), also called pnictogens, are rarely used in catalysis due to the difficulties associated in preparing well-structured and stable ...materials. Here, we report on the synthesis of highly exfoliated, few layer 2D phosphorene and antimonene in zero oxidation state, suspended in an ionic liquid, with the native atoms ready to interact with external reagents while avoiding aerobic or aqueous decomposition pathways, and on their use as efficient catalysts for the alkylation of nucleophiles with esters. The few layer pnictogen material circumvents the extremely harsh reaction conditions associated to previous superacid-catalyzed alkylations, by enabling an alternative mechanism on surface, protected from the water and air by the ionic liquid. These 2D catalysts allow the alkylation of a variety of acid-sensitive organic molecules and giving synthetic relevancy to the use of simple esters as alkylating agents.
The metaverse aims to merge the virtual and real worlds. The target is to generate a virtual community where social components play a crucial role and combine different areas such as entertainment, ...work, shopping, and services. This idea is explicitly appealing in the context of smart cities. The metaverse offers digitalization approaches and can strengthen citizens’ social community. While the existing literature covers the exemplary potential of smart city metaverse applications, this study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the potential and already implemented metaverse applications in the context of cities and municipalities. In addition, challenges related to these applications are identified. The study combines literature reviews and expert interviews to ensure a broad overview. Forty-eight smart city metaverse applications from eleven areas were identified, and actual projects from eleven cities demonstrate the current state of development. Still, further research should evaluate the benefits of the various applications and find strategies to overcome the identified challenges.

CT26 colon carcinoma-bearing mice were anesthetized with isoflurane (IF) or ketamine/xylazine (KX) while breathing air or oxygen (O2). We performed 10 min static PET scans 1 h, 2 h and 3 h after ...18FFAZA injection and calculated the 18FFAZA-uptake and tumor-to-muscle ratios (T/M). In another experimental group, we placed a pO2 probe in the tumor as well as in the gastrocnemius muscle to measure the pO2 and perfusion.
Ketamine/xylazine-anesthetized mice yielded up to 3.5-fold higher T/M-ratios compared to their isoflurane-anesthetized littermates 1 h, 2 h and 3 h after 18FFAZA injection regardless of whether the mice breathed air or oxygen (3 h, KX-air: 7.1 vs. IF-air: 1.8, p = 0.0001, KX-O2: 4.4 vs. IF-O2: 1.4, p < 0.0001). The enhanced T/M-ratios in ketamine/xylazine-anesthetized mice were mainly caused by an increased 18FFAZA uptake in the carcinomas. Invasive pO2 probe measurements yielded enhanced intra-tumoral pO2 values in air- and oxygen-breathing ketamine/xylazine-anesthetized mice compared to isoflurane-anesthetized mice (KX-air: 1.01 mmHg, IF-air: 0.45 mmHg; KX-O2 9.73 mmHg, IF-O2: 6.25 mmHg). Muscle oxygenation was significantly higher in air-breathing isoflurane-anesthetized (56.9 mmHg) than in ketamine/xylazine-anesthetized mice (33.8 mmHg, p = 0.0003).
18FFAZA tumor uptake was highest in ketamine/xylazine-anesthetized mice regardless of whether the mice breathed air or oxygen. The generally lower 18FFAZA whole-body uptake in isoflurane-anesthetized mice could be due to the higher muscle pO2-values in these mice compared to ketamine/xylazine-anesthetized mice. When performing preclinical in vivo hypoxia PET studies, oxygen should be avoided, and ketamine/xylazine-anesthesia might alleviate the identification of tumor hypoxia areals.

We investigated the surface tension and surface composition of various mixtures of the two ionic liquids (ILs) 1-methyl-3-octyl-imidazolium hexafluorophosphate C

ImI in the temperature range from 230 to 370 K under ultraclean vacuum conditions. The surface tension was measured using a newly developed apparatus, and the surface composition was determined by angle-resolved X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (ARXPS). In the pure ILs, the alkyl chains of C

contents. For the surface tension, strong deviations from an ideal mixing behaviour take place. By applying a simple approach based on the surface composition of the mixtures as deduced from ARXPS, we are able to predict and reproduce the experimentally measured temperature-dependent surface tension values with astonishingly high accuracy.
We report on the surface and interface tension measurements of the two ionic liquids (ILs) C8C1ImPF6 and m(PEGn)2ImI (n = 2, 4, 6) in a surface science approach. The measurements were performed in a ...newly developed and unique experimental setup, which allows for surface tension (ST) measurements using the pendant drop method and for contact angle measurements using the sessile drop method under the well-defined conditions of a high vacuum (from 10−7 mbar). The setup also allows for in vacuum transfer to an ultrahigh vacuum system for surface preparation and analysis, such as in angle-resolved X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. For C8C1ImPF6, we observe a linear decrease in the surface tension with increasing temperature. The ST measured under high vacuum is consistently found to be larger than under ambient conditions, which is attributed to the influence of water uptake in air by the IL. For m(PEGn)2ImI (n = 2, 4, 6), we observe a decrease in the ST with increasing polyethylene glycol chain length in a vacuum, similar to very recent observations under 1 bar Argon. This decrease is attributed to an increasing enrichment of the PEG chains at the surface. The ST data obtained under these ultraclean conditions are essential for a fundamental understanding of the relevant parameters determining ST on the microscopic level and can serve as a benchmark for theoretical calculations, such as molecular dynamic simulations. In addition to the ST measurements, proof-of-principle data are presented for sessile drop measurements in HV, and a detailed description and characterization of the new setup is provided.
Photoinduced degradation is a critical obstacle for the real application of novel semiconductors for photovoltaic applications. In this paper, the photoinduced degradation of CH3NH3PbI3 in a vacuum ...and air (relative humidity 40%) is analyzed by ex situ and advanced in situ technologies. Without light illumination, CH3NH3PbI3 films slowly degrade under vacuum and air within 24 hours. However, we find that CH3NH3PbI3 converts to metallic lead (Pb0) when exposed to vacuum and light illumination. Further, a series of lead salts (e.g. PbO, Pb(OH)2 and PbCO3) are formed when CH3NH3PbI3 is degraded under environmental conditions, i.e. under the combination of light, oxygen and moisture. Photoinduced degradation is found to be determined by the environmental atmosphere as CH3NH3PbI3 films remain very stable under nitrogen conditions. The results from vacuum conditions underpin that the high volatility of the organic component (CH3NH3I) is in conflict with reaching excellent intrinsic stability due to its role in creating ion vacancies. The degradation in air suggests that both oxygen and water contribute to the fast photodecomposition of CH3NH3PbI3 into lead salts rather than water alone. Given these basic yet fundamental understandings, the design of hydrophobic capping layers becomes one prerequisite towards long-term stable perovskite-based devices.
The dynamics of β-amyloid deposition and related second-order physiological effects, such as regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF), are key factors for a deeper understanding of Alzheimer's disease ...(AD). We present longitudinal in vivo data on the dynamics of β-amyloid deposition and the decline of rCBF in two different amyloid precursor protein (APP) transgenic mouse models of AD. Using a multiparametric positron emission tomography and magnetic resonance imaging approach, we demonstrate that in the presence of cerebral β-amyloid angiopathy (CAA), β-amyloid deposition is accompanied by a decline of rCBF. Loss of perfusion correlates with the growth of β-amyloid plaque burden but is not related to the number of CAA-induced microhemorrhages. However, in a mouse model of parenchymal β-amyloidosis and negligible CAA, rCBF is unchanged. Because synaptically driven spontaneous network activity is similar in both transgenic mouse strains, we conclude that the disease-related decline of rCBF is caused by CAA.
