In this study, the authors investigated self-esteem as a moderator of psychological and physiological responses to interpersonal rejection and tested an integrative model detailing the mechanisms by ...which self-esteem may influence cognitive, affective, and physiological responses. Seventy-eight participants experienced an ambiguous interpersonal rejection (or no rejection) from an opposite sex partner in the context of an online dating interaction. Salivary cortisol was assessed at 5 times, and self-reported cognitive and affective responses were assessed. Compared with those with high self-esteem, individuals with low self-esteem responded to rejection by appraising themselves more negatively, making more self-blaming attributions, exhibiting greater cortisol reactivity, and derogating the rejector. Path analysis indicated that the link between low self-esteem and increased cortisol reactivity was mediated by self-blame attributions; cortisol reactivity, in turn, mediated the link between low self-esteem and increased partner derogation. Discussion centers on the role of self-esteem as part of a broader psychobiological system for regulating and responding to social threat and on implications for health outcomes.
Between October 2017 and May 2019, measurements of tritium in rainwater were carried out at several sites in north-west France. Tritium is an important tracer for hydroclimatic studies and this work ...provided up-to-date data that we compared with Global Network for Isotopes in Precipitation (GNIP) measurements. Of the various sites studied, some could potentially be affected by atmospheric gaseous emissions from the nuclear industries in the region (reprocessing plant, nuclear power plant). On our reference site, the activities measured in rainwater are often below the decision threshold (<0.15 Bq.L−1). Two other sites with little impact from nuclear industries have mean activities of less than 0.7 Bq.L−1. At the two Cherbourg sites closer to the nuclear industries, the activities in rainwater are slightly higher on average, though still close to 1 Bq.L−1, but the activities are more variable when the rainfall accompanies an air mass from the Orano La Hague nuclear site. Using existing GNIP data and a simple model to simulate predicted data up to 2019, it is shown that all our measured data are comparable with the predicted activities for GNIP stations with a marine influence, in the case of the reference site and the sites with little impact from nuclear industries, and for GNIP stations with a continental influence, in the case of the other sites. Seasonal variation in activities was detected, with greater activities in the spring-summer period corresponding to the well known ‘spring leak’ phenomenon. This study also reveals significant differences between the activities measured on the western side of France (influenced by the Atlantic Ocean) and those measured in a continental zone. The mean levels of tritium in rainwater in France, excluding any nuclear influence, can be estimated on average at less than 0.3 Bq.L−1 in the western marine zone, and at around 1 Bq.L−1 in the continental zones.

Two studies examined the link between working models of attachment and social construal processes in romantic relationships. In Study 1, individuals high in attachment-related anxiety responded to ...hypothetical partner transgressions by endorsing relationship-threatening attributions, experiencing emotional distress, and endorsing behavioral intentions that were likely to result in conflict. These effects emerged after controlling for pessimistic explanatory style, depressed mood, and self-esteem. In addition, the association between anxiety and emotional distress was mediated by attributions and attachment-related needs. In Study 2, anxious individuals endorsed relationship-threatening attributions for their partner’s transgressions but less so for their partner’s positive behaviors, and these effects occurred primarily among those in unhappy relationships. In contrast, avoidant individuals endorsed pessimistic attributions for their partner’s positive behavior but less so for their partner’s transgressions, and these effects occurred regardless of their level of relationship satisfaction.
The aim is to characterize the energy distribution of neutron fluence in the energy range 8 keV-5 MeV based on a primary standard: the LNE-IRSN/MIMAC microTPC. The microTPC is a time projection ...chamber. Time projection chambers are gaseous detectors able to measure charged particles energy and to reconstruct their track. The gas is used as a (n, p) converter in order to detect neutrons down to few keV. The neutron energy is reconstructed event by event thanks to proton scattering angle and proton ionization energy measurements. The scattering angle is deduced from the 3-D track. The proton energy is obtained by charge collection measurements, knowing the ionization quenching factor. The fluence is reconstructed thanks to the detected events number and the simulation of the detector response. The microTPC is a new reliable detector able to measure energy distribution of the neutron fluence without unfolding procedure or prior neutron calibration contrary to usual gaseous counters. The microTPC is characterized at the AMANDE facility, with neutron energies going from 8 keV to 565 keV. This work shows the first direct reconstruction of neutron energy and fluence, simultaneously, at 27.2 keV in a continuous irradiation mode.
To determine whether ambulatory psychotherapy targeted to abandonment experiences and fears can reduce suicidality and improve outcome in borderline patients referred to the emergency room with major ...depressive disorder and self-destructive behavior severe enough to require medical/surgical treatment and a brief psychiatric hospitalization. A total of 170 subjects were randomized at hospital discharge into three treatment groups: treatment as usual (TAU), abandonment psychotherapy delivered by certified psychotherapists, and abandonment psychotherapy delivered by nurses. Assessments were performed before randomization and at 3-month follow-up. Continued suicidality and other outcome measures were significantly worse in the treatment-as-usual as compared to both abandonment psychotherapy groups, but there were no differences between the two psychotherapy groups. These results suggest the efficacy of manualized psychotherapy that specifically targets the abandonment fears and experiences that are so common as precipitants to suicidal and self-destructive acts in borderline patients. It does not appear that formal psychotherapy training is associated with better outcomes.
MIMAC (MIcro-TPC MAtrix of Chambers) is a directional WIMP Dark Matter detector project. Direct dark matter experiments need a high level of electron/recoil discrimination to search for nuclear ...recoils produced by WIMP-nucleus elastic scattering. In this paper, we proposed an original method for electron event rejection based on a multivariate analysis applied to experimental data acquired using monochromatic neutron fields. This analysis shows that a 10 super(5) rejection power is reachable for electron/recoil discrimination. Moreover, the efficiency was estimated by a Monte-Carlo simulation showing that a 10 super(5) electron rejection power is reached with a 86.49 + or - 0.17% nuclear recoil efficiency considering the full energy range and 94.67 + or - 0.19% considering a 5 keV lower threshold.
The MIMAC experiment is a μ-TPC project for directional dark matter search. Directional detection strategy is based on the measurement of the WIMP flux anisotropy due to the solar system motion with ...respect to the dark matter halo. The main purpose of MIMAC project is the measurement of nuclear recoil energy and 3D direction from the WIMP elastic scattering on target nuclei. Since June 2012 a bi-chamber prototype is operating at the Modane underground laboratory. In this paper, we report the first ionization energy and 3D track observations of NRs produced by the radon progeny. This measurement shows the capability of the MIMAC detector and opens the possibility to explore the low energy recoil directionality signature.
Three-dimensional track reconstruction is a key issue for directional Dark Matter detection and it requires a precise knowledge of the electron drift velocity. Magboltz simulations are known to give ...a good evaluation of this parameter. However, large TPC operated underground on long time scale may be characterized by an effective electron drift velocity that may differ from the value evaluated by simulation. In situ measurement of this key parameter is hence needed as it is a way to avoid bias in the 3D track reconstruction. We present a dedicated method for the measurement of the electron drift velocity with the MIMAC detector. It is tested on two gas mixtures: CF sub(4) and CF sub(4) + CHF sub(3). The latter has been chosen for the MIMAC detector as we expect that adding CHF sub(3) to pure CF sub(4) will lower the electron drift velocity. This is a key point for directional Dark Matter as the track sampling along the drift field will be improved while keeping almost the same Fluorine content of the gas mixture. We show that the drift velocity at 50 mbar is reduced by a factor of about 5 when adding 30% of CHF sub(3).
In order to measure the energy of neutron fields, with energy ranging from 8 keV to 1 MeV, a new primary standard is being developed at the IRSN (Institute for Radioprotection and Nuclear Safety). ...This project, -TPC (Micro Time Projection Chamber), carried out in collaboration with the LPSC (Laboratoire de Physique Subatomique et de Cosmologie), is based on the nuclear recoil detector principle. The instrument is presented with the associated method to measure the neutron energy. This article emphasizes the proton energy calibration procedure and energy measurements of a neutron field produced at 127 keV with the IRSN facility AMANDE.
Directional detection of non-baryonic Dark Matter is a promising search strategy for discriminating WIMP events from neutrons, the ultimate background for dark matter direct detection. This strategy ...requires both a precise measurement of the energy down to a few keV and 3D reconstruction of tracks down to a few mm. The MIMAC (MIcro-tpc MAtrix of Chambers) collaboration has developed in the last years an original prototype detector based on the direct coupling of large pixelized micromegas with a special developed fast self-triggered electronics showing the feasibility of a new generation of directional detectors. The first bi-chamber prototype has been installed at Modane, underground laboratory in June 2012. The first undergournd background events, the gain stability and calibration are shown. The first spectrum of nuclear recoils showing 3D tracks coming from the radon progeny is presented.
