This paper demonstrates the possibilities of GIS implementation in the preventive phase of firefighting activities for the Šibenik-Knin County. Multicriteria GIS analysis (GIS-MCDA) was applied in ...derivation of the wildfire risk ignition index. Four groups of criteria were used: vegetation, geomorphometry, anthropogenic impact, and climate elements. Wildfire risk ignition models were derived based on the decision-maker method through (1) the experience of the local fire commander and (2) following the examples of good practice. Furthermore, the coverage and the passability of the National park (NP) Krka roads were analyzed in relation to the standard intervention time from the competent fire brigades. The nearest fire brigades and the fastest routes to the most endangered zones within the NP Krka have been derived. The results indicate that the area of Šibenik-Knin County belongs to the moderate/moderately high risk of fire ignition and that the coverage of the NP Krka roads within the standard intervention time is not satisfactory.

adheres to a polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) resin base with gold (Au) nanoparticles. We synthesized Au nanoparticles and characterized them. The average size of Au nanoparticles embedded in PMMA was 11 nm. The color difference ΔE between PMMA and PMMA/Au composites was 2.7 and was still esthetically acceptable to patients. PMMA/Au surfaces are smoother and more hydrophilic than pure PMMA surfaces, and the isoelectric point of both types of surfaces was 4.3. Above the isoelectric point, PMMA/Au surfaces are more negatively charged than PMMA surfaces. The added Au nanoparticles decreased the tensile strength, while the hardness did not change significantly. The accessibility of health care organizations plays a key role in promoting health equality and quality of life. The main objective of this paper is to analyze the accessibility of health care ...organizations in the city of Zadar. Data on the locations of general practitioners’ clinics, dental care clinics, pediatric clinics, pharmacies, private practice offices and general hospitals were used in the GIS analysis. The addresses of health care organizations were taken from the website of the Croatian Health Insurance Fund (HZZO) and then geocoded. Data on the transport network of the settlement of Zadar were taken from the Geofabrika website. Topological verification and data correction were performed. Healthcare accessibility zones were derived in the ArcMap 10.1 Network Analyst extension. Accessibility zones were derived according to the travel time criterion and classified with respect to minutes on foot (5-10-15). Data on statistical circles and population were taken from the Central Bureau of Statistics. It has been found that there are significant differences in statistical circles regarding the accessibility of health care organizations in the city of Zadar. The highest concentration of health care organizations has been marked in the statistical circles of Poluotok, while the scarcity of institutions was noted in the statistical circles of the eastern part of the city.
Antitumor applications of ascorbic acid (AA) and its oxidized form dehydroascorbic acid (DHA) can be quite challenging due to their instability and sensitivity to degradation in aqueous media. To ...overcome this obstacle, we have synthesized solid lipid nanoparticles loaded with ascorbyl palmitate (SLN-AP) with variations in proportions of the polymer Pluronic F-68. SLNs were synthesized using the hot homogenization method, characterized by measuring the particle size, polydispersity, zeta potential and visualized by TEM. To investigate the cellular uptake of the SLN, we have incorporated coumarin-6 into the same SLN formulation and followed their successful uptake for 48 h. We have tested the cytotoxicity of the SLN formulations and free ascorbate forms, AA and DHA, on HEK 293 and U2OS cell lines by MTT assay. The SLN-AP in both formulations have a cytotoxic effect at lower concentrations when compared to ascorbate applied the form of AA or DHA. Better selectivity for targeting tumor cell line was observed with 3% Pluronic F-68. The antioxidative effect of the SLN-AP was observed as early as 1 h after the treatment with a small dose of ascorbate applied (5 µM). SLN-AP formulation with 3% Pluronic F-68 needs to be further optimized as an ascorbate carrier due to its intrinsic cytotoxicity.
This study aimed to implement a microencapsulated form of selected autochthonous lactic-acid bacteria (LAB) isolated from the cheese-production chain and natural rennet obtained from suckling lambs ...in the traditional production of hard sheep cheese, “Paški sir”, from the island of Pag, Croatia. Two different formulations of microparticles were prepared: (i) microparticles containing the strain of both Lactiplantibacillus plantarum and Lactococcus lactis (S2) and (ii) microparticles containing both strains and natural rennet (S3). These formulations were used in the production of Paški sir cheese simultaneously with standard production using non-encapsulated commercial starter cultures and commercial rennet (S1). The number of Lc. lactis isolates decreased at day 30 and were not isolated during the remaining ripening process, whereas the number of L. plantarum remained stable throughout the ripening process. The level of LAB and the release of the rennet from microsphere formulations at the end allowed for the production of cheese with the same characteristics as the commercial product, indicating no negative interactions of natural rennet, bacterial culture, and chemical components of microparticles. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a microencapsulated L. plantarum (isolated from the abomasum of lambs) coupled with natural lamb’s rennet used in the production of hard sheep cheese. This pilot study showed the great potential for maintaining authenticity in cheese production by combining traditional and sustainable innovative technologies.
The development of geospatial technologies (GST) has accelerated the process of 3D documentation and facilitated the promotion of cultural heritage. In this paper 3D documentation and promotion of ...Fortica fortress (Pag island, Republic of Croatia) has been made. The methods of close-range photogrammetry (CRP), 3D print and modern visualisation technique (virtual reality) were used. Data was collected using UAV Phantom 4 Pro, DSLR Nikon D5300 and GNSS RTK Stonex X10. High-resolution 3D models of Fortica were generated using Agisoft Metashape 1.5.1. The dense cloud of the Fortica with 33 million points was generated. Digital surface model (DSM) with spatial resolution of 1,3 cm and digital orthophoto with spatial resolution of 0,6 cm, were created from dense point cloud. The total RMSE of control points was 4,04 cm in the reference coordinate system and 0,24 pixels in the imaging coordinate system. 3D model of the Fortica fortress was used to create virtual walks, while Prusa i3 mk3 physical model of the Fortica fortress was created with the 3D printer. Virtual walk was displayed in the Samsung GearVR model. The proposed methodological framework provides cultural heritage experts with an easy and cost-effective way of generating relatively accurate 3D models and applying these models to various promotional and educational purposes.
Predmet istraživanja rada je tržišno natjecanje između trgovačkih centara u naselju Zadru. Osnovu istraživanja čine prostorni podatci prikupljeni različitim metodama i tehnikama, analizirani ...primjenom alata geografskoinformacijskog sustava (GIS) uz uvažavanje specifičnih tržišnih zakona. Prema kategorizaciji trgovačkih centara, definirano je šire tržišno područje unutar kojeg je analizirano tržišno natjecanje između trgovačkih centara. Izvođenjem demografskog rastera definirana je gustoća potencijalnih kupaca unutar širega tržišnog područja. Analiza natjecanja uključivala je određivanje tržišnih zona trgovačkih centara, pojavu potencijalnoga tržišnog kanibalizma te definiranje dominantnog centra prema varijabli vjerojatnosti odabira. Tržišne zone određene su na temelju atributa vremena vožnje (min). Metodama terenskog istraživanja, izračunom nelinearne udaljenosti te analizom gustoće trgovačkih centara zaključeno je da se između centara javlja tržišni kanibalizam. U svrhu predviđanja tržišne dominacije, primjenom Huffova modela, izračunate su srednje vrijednosti odabira centara unutar zona preklapanja i širega tržišnog područja. Rezultati Huffova modela potvrđuju tržišnu stvarnost, odnosno da veći broj kupaca unutar zona preklapanja i širega tržišnog područja odabire atraktivniji trgovački centar. Preklapanjem demografskog rastera i Huffova modela kvantificirana je razlika u broju ljudi koji posjećuju atraktivniji trgovački centar.

Emperor Constantine V was born in the summer of 718, however our only two texts that provide an approximate date of his birth diverge on the matter; mid-July according to Patriarch Nikephoros’ ...Breviarium, and early September according to Theophanes’ Chronographia. This paper first analyses the place of Constantine V’s birth in the two texts and argues that Theophanes moved the birth to attach it to the baptism episode, which was a separate event, effectively distorting the date of birth. The article also proposes that Theophanes had both practical and ideological reasons to do so and suggests that with the current state of the sources, evidence from the Breviarium is more likely to be closer to the actual date of birth of the infamous iconoclast emperor. Considering that the birth of an imperial heir had a legitimizing value, demonstrating the divine favour shown to the current ruler, and the importance of victory in 718, the last section of this paper further analyses whether the date-just before the retreat of the Arab army besieging Constantinople for about a year-may have played a role in Isaurian propaganda or in the memory of Constantine V as a triumphant ruler.
Magnetic polymer gels are a new promising class of nanocomposite gels. In this work, magnetic PEO/iron oxide nanocomposite hydrogels were synthesized using the one-step γ-irradiation method starting ...from poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and iron(III) precursor alkaline aqueous suspensions followed by simultaneous crosslinking of PEO chains and reduction of Fe(III) precursor. γ-irradiation dose and concentrations of Fe3+, 2-propanol and PEO in the initial suspensions were varied and optimized. With 2-propanol and at high doses magnetic gels with embedded magnetite nanoparticles were obtained, as confirmed by XRD, SEM and Mössbauer spectrometry. The quantitative determination of γ-irradiation generated Fe2+ was performed using the 1,10-phenanthroline method. The maximal Fe2+ molar fraction of 0.55 was achieved at 300 kGy, pH = 12 and initial 5% of Fe3+. The DSC and rheological measurements confirmed the formation of a well-structured network. The thermal and rheological properties of gels depended on the dose, PEO concentration and initial Fe3+ content (amount of nanoparticles synthesized inside gels). More amorphous and stronger gels were formed at higher dose and higher nanoparticle content. The properties of synthesized gels were determined by the presence of magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles, which acted as reinforcing agents and additional crosslinkers of PEO chains thus facilitating the one-step gel formation.
Zadovoljstvo stanovanjem jedan je od pokazatelja kvalitete života koji utječe na sve aspekte životnih dimenzija, od fizičkih, ekonomskih, socijalnih do psiholoških. Zbog svoje kompleksnosti, ...stanovanje se smatra interdisciplinarnim područjem istraživanja, pa različite struke koriste različite pristupe, koncepte, modele i mjere. Da bi neko istraživanje o stanovanju moglo biti sveobuhvatno, nužno je dati teorijski okvir u njegovom proučavanju. U velikom broju znanstvenih radova, istraživanja i projekata, teorije stanovanja često su nepotpuno objašnjene. Na temelju proučene recentne literature ovaj rad donosi pregled i sintezu najčešće korištenih teorija o zadovoljstvu stanovanja na jednom mjestu. To su teorija stambenog zadovoljstva na kojoj počiva model zadovoljstva stanovanjem, a polazi od subjektivnih percepcija; teorija stambene prilagodbe kao najcitiranija teorija u istraživanjima zadovoljstva stanovanjem; teorija stambene pokretljivosti koja poseban naglasak stavlja na stambeno okruženje kao važnog prediktora zadovoljstva stanovanjem; teorija formiranja impresija koja se upotrebljava pri ispitivanjima dojmova o fizičkim aspektima stambenog okoliša i fizičkoj strukturi zgrade/kuće; bihevioralna teorija kao najčešće korištena teorija u geografskom ispitivanju zadovoljstva stanovanjem; teorija hedonističkog ergometra kao najpoznatija teorija afektivnih iskustava; teorija aspiracijske spirale koja predviđa adaptacijske efekte; teorija troškova stanovanja koja zadovoljstvo stanovanjem povezuje s troškovima; funkcionalistička teorija koja je usmjerena ka društvenoj harmoniji; marksistička teorija prema kojoj svako biće ima pravo na adekvatno stanovanje neovisno o ekonomskom statusu i pozitivistička teorija stanovanja koja prednost daje objektivnom pristupu. Cilj pregleda navedenih teorija je njihovo sveobuhvatnije korištenje u istraživanjima zadovoljstva stanovanjem od mikro do makro razine. U radu je objašnjen koncept zadovoljstva stanovanjem i kritički osvrt za navedene teorije te su objašnjene njihove prednosti i nedostaci u istraživanjima zadovoljstva stanovanjem.
