In this paper we present a classification of emission-line galaxies at intermediate and high redshifts (0.52.5 for near-infrared spectra), using the Dn(4000) index as a supplementary diagnostic. Our ...goal is to complement the diagnostic based only on emission-line ratios from the blue part of the spectra, which suffer from some limitations for the classification of Seyfert 2 and composite galaxies. We used a sample of 89 379 galaxies with a good signal-to-noise ratio from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (data release 7). Using the classification scheme presented in Paper I, we classified these galaxies with a diagnostic diagram involving the Oiii5007 /Hbeta and Oii3726+3729 /Hbeta emission-line ratios. Then we derived a supplementary diagnostic involving Dn(4000) to improve this classification, in the regions where objects of different types are mixed. To show the validity of our spectral classification we established success-rate and contamination charts, then we compared our results to those obtained with the reference classification that was scheme obtained also using Halpha , Nii6584, and Sii6717+6731 emission lines. We show that our supplementary classification based on the Dn(4000) index allows to separate unambiguously star-forming galaxies from Seyfert 2 in the region where they were mixed in Paper I. It also significantly reduces the region where star-forming galaxies are mixed with composites.
Aims. In this paper we present a classification of emission-line galaxies at intermediate and high redshifts (0.5 ≲ z ≲ 1.0 for optical spectra, z ≳ 2.5 for near-infrared spectra), using the Dn(4000) ...index as a supplementary diagnostic. Our goal is to complement the diagnostic based only on emission-line ratios from the blue part of the spectra, which suffer from some limitations for the classification of Seyfert 2 and composite galaxies. Methods. We used a sample of 89 379 galaxies with a good signal-to-noise ratio from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (data release 7). Using the classification scheme presented in Paper I, we classified these galaxies with a diagnostic diagram involving the Oiiiλ5007/Hβ and Oiiλλ3726 + 3729/Hβ emission-line ratios. Then we derived a supplementary diagnostic involving Dn(4000) to improve this classification, in the regions where objects of different types are mixed. To show the validity of our spectral classification we established success-rate and contamination charts, then we compared our results to those obtained with the reference classification scheme that was obtained also using Hα, Niiλ6584, and Siiλλ6717+6731 emission lines. Results. We show that our supplementary classification based on the Dn(4000) index allows to separate unambiguously star-forming galaxies from Seyfert 2 in the region where they were mixed in Paper I. It also significantly reduces the region where star-forming galaxies are mixed with composites.
Particle physics today faces the challenge of explaining the mystery of dark matter, the origin of matter over anti-matter in the Universe, the origin of the neutrino masses, the apparent fine-tuning ...of the electro-weak scale, and many other aspects of fundamental physics. Perhaps the most striking frontier to emerge in the search for answers involves new physics at mass scales comparable to familiar matter, below the GeV-scale, or even radically below, down to sub-eV scales, and with very feeble interaction strength. New theoretical ideas to address dark matter and other fundamental questions predict such feebly interacting particles (FIPs) at these scales, and indeed, existing data provide numerous hints for such possibility. A vibrant experimental program to discover such physics is under way, guided by a systematic theoretical approach firmly grounded on the underlying principles of the Standard Model. This document represents the report of the FIPs 2022 workshop, held at CERN between the 17 and 21 October 2022 and aims to give an overview of these efforts, their motivations, and the decadal goals that animate the community involved in the search for FIPs.

In controlled clinical studies investigating repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) as a potential treatment for psychiatric and neurological disorders, various forms of sham rTMS have ...been used as placebo controls. However, placebo rTMS has not been systematically established to date and several previous sham conditions have turned out as weak active conditions in subsequent trials. Here we investigate a new sham condition with a mu-metal shielded coil in a cross-over design in 20 healthy volunteers. The intensity of the shielded coil was calibrated so that the sound pressures of the sham and the active condition were equal. The resulting magnetic field was reduced to 9% in relation to the active condition. Both conditions did not significantly differ regarding effects on mood ratings. However, subjective sensations were significantly different. This study addresses important difficulties in finding the optimum sham condition for rTMS and reveals problems that need to be considered in future studies.
The Tax Reform Act of 1984 provided a tax savings windfall on business by replacing the domestic international sales corporation (DISC) with the foreign sales corporation (FSC). The act also forgives ...deferred income taxes on undistributed DISC earnings. Under pressure from numerous signatories of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), the change was made so that legislation embedded in the FSC conforms to the GATT rules. Income from certain activities done by an FSC outside the US is exempt from US tax provided 4 criteria are met: 1. adequate foreign presence, 2. foreign management, 3. economic processes related to the export income performed outside the US, and 4. income of the FSC determined according to transfer prices specified in the legislation. The effect of the DISC/FSC legislation on financial statements is discussed with reference to the requirements of Financial Accounting Standards Board Technical Bulletin 84-2. Also examined are the new law's implications for the use of cash flow analysis to measure a company's financial strength.
ABSTRACT
We identify and investigate known late M, L, and T dwarfs in the Gaia second data release. This sample is being used as a training set in the Gaia data processing chain of the ultracool ...dwarfs work package. We find 695 objects in the optical spectral range M8–T6 with accurate Gaia coordinates, proper motions, and parallaxes which we combine with published spectral types and photometry from large area optical and infrared sky surveys. We find that 100 objects are in 47 multiple systems, of which 27 systems are published and 20 are new. These will be useful benchmark systems and we discuss the requirements to produce a complete catalogue of multiple systems with an ultracool dwarf component. We examine the magnitudes in the Gaia passbands and find that the GBP magnitudes are unreliable and should not be used for these objects. We examine progressively redder colour–magnitude diagrams and see a notable increase in the main-sequence scatter and a bivariate main sequence for old and young objects. We provide an absolute magnitude – spectral subtype calibration for G and GRP passbands along with linear fits over the range M8–L8 for other passbands.
