Three of the largest granite porphyries of northern Portugal were studied to improve current knowledge on the regional felsic vein hypabyssal magmatism. All porphyries exhibit microcrystalline ...groundmasses of variable granularity (composed of quartz, K-feldspar, and muscovite), quartz, K-feldspar, plagioclase, biotite, and cordierite phenocrysts, antirapakivi and rapakivi feldspars, embayments in quartz, and enrichments in rare metal incompatible elements. The veins were emplaced along fractures generated during the last phase of the Variscan orogeny. Textural features were presumably conditioned by fast cooling, volatile loss, subsolidus annealing, and the magnitude of thermal contrasts at the time of emplacement. All veins were altered by subsolidus hydrothermal fluids, as suggested by several petrographic and geochemical evidence. The generation of mantled feldspars is probably related to isothermal decompression and magma mixing, which is compatible with the \(\varepsilon \mathrm{Nd}_{i}\) signatures (\({-}3.76\) to \({-}4.40\)). Based on this research, both processes have contributed to the petrogenesis of the studied porphyries.
Approximately 6% of all cancers arise in adolescents and young adults. Currently, the ward type best placed to treat this patient group remains controversial. The aim of this study was to evaluate ...exactly where adolescents and young adults with cancer are treated in Brazil.
Data were extracted from 271 Brazilian hospital-based cancer registries (2007–2011), including all five national regions (North, Northeast, Midwest, South, and Southeast). Variables included gender, age, ethnicity, National Code of Health Establishment, hospital unit state, and region. Tumors were classified according to the World Health Organization classification for adolescents and young adults with cancer. Odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals were computed by unconditional logistic regression.
Most patients were managed on medical oncology wards, followed by pediatric oncology and then by non-specialist wards. Of patients aged 15–19 years, 49% were managed on pediatric wards; most of the older patients (96%; aged 20–24) were managed on adult wards. Patients were more likely to be seen in medical oncology wards as their age increased (OR=2.03 1.98–2.09), or if they were based in the South (OR=1.50 1.29–1.73). Conversely, bone tumors were less likely to be treated (decreased OR) on medical oncology wards, regardless of age, gender, and region.
An elevated risk of treatment on medical oncology wards was observed for older patients and those treated in the South. Bone tumors were generally treated in pediatric oncology wards, while skin cancers were treated in medical oncology wards, regardless of age, gender, and region.
Aproximadamente 6% de todos os cânceres surgem em adolescentes e adultos jovens. Atualmente, o melhor tipo de enfermaria para tratar esse grupo de pacientes continua sendo controverso. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar exatamente onde os adolescentes e adultos jovens com câncer são tratados no Brasil.
Foram coletados dados de 271 registros de câncer de base hospitalar (2007-2011), inclusive de todas as cinco regiões nacionais (Norte, Nordeste, Centro-Oeste, Sul e Sudeste). As variáveis incluíram sexo, idade, etnia, o Código Nacional de Estabelecimento de Saúde e o estado e a região da unidade hospitalar. Os tumores foram classificados de acordo com a classificação da Organização Mundial de Saúde para adolescentes e adultos jovens com câncer. As razões de chance com intervalos de confiança de 95% foram calculadas por regressão logística incondicional.
A maioria dos pacientes foi tratada em enfermaria de oncologia médica, seguido da enfermaria de oncologia pediátrica e, então, a enfermaria sem especialidade. 49% dos pacientes com idades entre 15-19 anos foram tratados em enfermarias pediátricas; os pacientes mais velhos (96%, com idades entre 20-24) foram tratados em enfermarias de adultos. Os pacientes apresentaram maior propensão a serem vistos em enfermarias de oncologia conforme mais velhos (RC=2,03 1,98-2,09) ou caso morassem na região Sul (RC=1,50 1,29-1,73). Por outro lado, os tumores ósseos mostraram menor propensão a tratamento (redução da RC) em enfermarias de oncologia, independentemente da idade, sexo e região.
Foi visto um risco elevado de tratamento, em enfermarias de oncologia, de pacientes mais velhos e os tratados na região Sul. Os tumores ósseos foram, em geral, tratados em enfermarias de oncologia pediátrica, ao passo que os cânceres de pele foram tratados em enfermarias de oncologia médica, independentemente da idade, sexo e região.
Despite the growing attention which green human resource management (GHRM) has been gaining, the field is still remarkably young, and conceptual clarity is yet to be attained. A bibliometric review ...of GHRM from 2010 to 2020 was conducted on the Web of Science and analyzed using the VOSviewer software package, version 1.6.16 developed by Van Eck and Waltman (Leiden, The Netherlands). The results show the exponential growth of this topic, although there seems to be no consensus regarding its definition, conceptualization and measurement. Concerning its conceptual development, GHRM seems to currently fit the second stage of development (evaluation and augmentation) of Reichers and Schneider's three-stage model of the evolution of constructs. Future research seems to point in the direction of establishing the barriers separating GHRM from other human resource management topics, defining green practices and determining the antecedents and consequences of GHRM.
Neste artigo, a partir do recorte clínico de um caso de paranóia atendido em acompanhamento terapêutico, busquei, por meio do referencial teórico da Psicanálise de orientação lacaniana, localizar os ...mecanismos presentes no desencadeamento e saída da crise, com a finalidade de orientar o tratamento possível em direção ao laço social. Privilegiei a articulação teórica pela vertente da identificação. Procurei demonstrar como a identificação às insígnias paternas sustentou a paciente no laço social por um longo período. O evento traumático desencadeou a dissolução imaginária. O remanejamento imaginário dos significantes, enquanto identificação aos atributos maternos, possibilitou a saída da crise e a estabilização, no entanto foi insuficiente como sustentação ao laço social, indicando a necessidade de um passo a mais em direção ao laço social.
In this article, revering to the clinical case of paranoia attended in therapeutic accompaniment, in consideration of the theoretical referential system of Lacans Psychoanalysis, I was locating the mechanisms that are present in the resolutions that lead to the exit of the crisis and like this, direct the treatment in direction of a social interchange. I emphasised the theoretical articulation of the identification. I tried to demonstrate like the identification to the paternal attributes supported the patient in the social interchange for a long period. The traumatic event then advanced the imaginary dissolution. The imaginary rehandling of the signifiers, ones identified to the motherly attributes, made the exit of the crisis possible and caused the stabilization. However, it was insufficient to sustain the social interchange and indicates the necessity of a step more towards it.
The accounting profession is undergoing significant changes due to revolutions in technology and markets. It is ever more important for higher education institutions (HEIs) to understand how to ...prepare professionals and students for the not-so-distant future. A review of the literature was conducted using VOS Viewer, focusing on the accountant’s profile in the context of the fourth industrial revolution and digital transformation. Then, the literature review’s findings were compared with the curricula of all Portuguese HEI accounting courses. The results show that transversal skills will be crucial in maintaining the relevance of the accounting profession, but HEIs seem to focus their curricula almost entirely on technical competencies/hard skills. There are, therefore, substantial divergences between what literature preaches and what education practices, not unlike what is being reported the world over. The origins and solutions to this apparent paradox are explored so as to contribute to good practices in other contexts and as a cautionary tale for other countries’ professional systems.
Aging can have a negative impact on the perioral region, affecting both appearance and self-esteem. Dentists offer various treatment options to address these changes, using surgical and non-surgical ...techniques. One such technique is facial filling with hyaluronic acid, a minimally invasive approach to improve the perioral region’s function and aesthetics and counteract aging effects. A literature review was conducted to collect scientific evidence on the subject, utilizing the mnemonic PI(C)O to refine the research question. The search for articles was accomplished on the EBSCOhost platform, specifically targeting those published between January 2009 and April 2023 in MEDLINE Complete, CINAHL Complete, and MedicLatina databases. Sixteen articles were carefully chosen, and the guidelines outlined in the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) method were followed throughout the process. The major findings reported in the selected articles suggest that using hyaluronic acid as a mechanism to mitigate the effects of face lower third aging following orofacial harmonization procedures in dentistry offers significant benefits to patients, improving the aesthetic appearance of the face, increasing patients’ self-esteem and satisfaction, and providing a better quality of life. Nevertheless, a weak evidence level was found in the selected articles due to methodological issues, highlighting the need to increase the methodological quality of future studies.
Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho é examinar as diferentes emoções projetadas através da imagem criada de si mesmo por Michel Temer (ethos) e dos sentimentos suscitados no leitor (pathos), ou seja, ...duas categorias argumentativas empregadas para influenciar seus interlocutores (Deputados, Senadores e povo brasileiro). Nesse sentido, o trabalho está calcado no aporte teórico e metodológico da Teoria Semiolinguística do Discurso, e pretendemos estudar as estratégias e os recursos linguísticos que têm potencialidade para persuadir, convencer, tocar emocionalmente o leitor através de palavras e expressões empregadas no texto, além da imagem criada de sua pessoa como um político competente para estar no cargo que ocupa. Como resultado, temos uma carta em que o autor utiliza com elevada frequência o ethos de vítima e de virtude e privilegia a estratégia índices de avaliação e palavras que podem provocar emoções como estratégias patêmicas com o intuito de sensibilizar os seus leitores. Abstract: This study aims to verify the different projected emotions through the images created by Michel Temer (ethos) and through the feelings aroused in the reader (pathos), in the other words, two argumentative categories used to influence their interlocutors (Deputies, Senators and Brazilian people). In this way, the study based on the theoretical and methodological contribution of the Semiolinguistic Theory of Discourse and we intend to study the strategies and the linguistic resources that have the potential to persuade, to convince, emotionally touch the reader through words, and expressions used in the text, in addition the image created of his person as a competent politician to be in the position that he occupies. As a result, we have a letter in which the author uses the ethos of victim and virtue with high frequency and privileges the strategy of evaluation and words that can provoke emotions as pathemic strategies in order to sensibilize his readers. The global COVID-19 pandemic disrupted face-to-face teaching, having a significant impact on the teaching-learning process. As a result, many students spent less time reading (and learning to read) ...than they did during face-to-face instruction, requiring the use of alternative approaches of instruction. A combined online and peer tutoring intervention was designed to improve reading skills such as fluency and accuracy. Following a quasi-experimental design, this study sought to evaluated the impact of implementing an online peer tutoring intervention on the development of reading fluency and accuracy in a sample of 91 2nd and 4th graders (49.6% female). Children were aged 6–10 years old (

= 1.10) and were enrolled in five classrooms (A, B, C, D, and E) from three schools in the Portuguese district of Porto, between January and May 2021. A set of 10 texts were chosen from official textbooks to assess reading fluency and accuracy. Classes were evaluated in three moments: initial (pre-intervention), intermediate (after 10 sessions) and final (post-test, after other 10 sessions). In order to examine the effects of the intervention, there was a 8-week lag between the start of the intervention in classes A, B, and C (experimental group) and classes D and E (control group). Moreover, classes D and E started intervention with a gap of 5 weeks between them. Students in the experimental group registered significant higher improvements in reading accuracy and fluency than in the control group. Interaction effects revealed that students with an initial lower performance (i.e., at the frustration level) showed higher increases in reading accuracy. Furthermore, 2nd graders showed higher increases throughout the intervention while the 4th graders stablished their progress after the first 10 sessions of intervention. Despite the study’s limitations, the findings support the positive impact that online peer tutoring can have on promoting students’ reading skills, adding to the ongoing discussion—which has gained a special emphasis with the COVID-19 pandemic—about the development of effective strategies to promote reading abilities in the first years of school.
Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial effect of the essential oils of cinnamon, cardamom, clove, oregano, and thyme and their synergism on vegetative cells and endospores ...of Clostridium perfringens type A inoculated in meat sausage (mortadella), as well as the influence of blends on the color, and lipid oxidation through the determination of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS index). The anticlostridial action of the oil blends was established. The two added oil blends (Treat. 1: oregano, clove, and thyme; Treat. 2: oregano, clove, and cinnamon) in combination with reduced nitrite content (75 ppm) promoted a lower growth of C. perfringens in mortadella stored at 15 °C for 21 days in comparison to treatments containing only 75 ppm of nitrite. The essential oil blends showed antioxidant action and did not alter food color, thus possessing potential application as a preservative for the meat products industry.
Mutations of the phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) gene have been associated with a spectrum of disorders called PTEN hamartoma tumor syndrome, which predisposes the individual to develop various ...types of tumors and vascular anomalies. Its phenotypic spectrum includes Cowden syndrome (CS), Bannayan-Riley-Ruvalcaba syndrome (BRRS), Proteus syndrome, autism spectrum disorders (ASD), some sporadic cancers, Lhermitte-Duclos disease (LDD), and various types of associated vascular anomalies.
A previously healthy 27-year-old woman was experiencing visual scintillating scotomas and mild chronic headaches for the past 2 years. The initial computed tomographic (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans did not reveal any abnormalities, but the possibility of pseudotumor cerebri was considered. Furthermore, a cerebral angiogram showed a posterior fossa dural arteriovenous fistula (dAVF), which was initially treated through embolization. However, in spite of proper treatment, this patient experienced multiple recurrent dAVFs in different locations, requiring multiple embolizations and surgeries. Despite exhibiting altered cerebral perfusion and hemodynamics, the patient did not display any significant symptoms until she experienced a sudden stroke resulting from deep venous thrombosis, which was not associated with any medical procedures or medication use. A comprehensive analysis was performed due to the aggressive nature of the dAVFs. Surprisingly, exome sequencing of a blood sample revealed a PTEN gene variant in chromosome 10, indicative of Cowden syndrome. However, no tumors or other vascular lesions were detected in other systems that would constitute Cowden syndrome.
The rapid formation of multiple and complex dAVFs, coupled with not meeting the criteria for any other PTEN-related syndrome, unequivocally leads to the presentation of a novel phenotype of the PTEN germline variant.
