The Santos and São Vicente Estuary has suffered extensively over the years from irregular industrial deposits. The present study aimed to evaluate liver disease prevalence and potential associated ...risk factors in four of the Estuary’s areas (Pilões and Água-Fria, Cubatão Center, Continental São Vicente, and Guarujá) and a reference area (Bertioga). This study consisted of a cross-sectional study design, in which a questionnaire was used to collect information in 820 households at each of the study areas. The proportion of total liver diseases, hepatitis, cirrhosis, and cancer (liver, biliary tract, and pancreas) per area were estimated. Pearson’s chi-square test and two proportion differences test were applied in order to evaluate associations between disease occurrence and areas and to test differences between two proportions, respectively. Single and multiple logistic regression models were applied to assess associations between disease prevalence and the different study areas. Liver disease prevalence was 1.5 % among all inhabitants and 1.4 % among those without any type of exposure. Among those who reported the presence of liver disease, a higher percentage of the participants that reported hepatitis (27.7 %) or other liver disease (48.7 %) did not report occupational or alcohol exposures. Hepatitis (77.8 %) was the most reported disease, and a statistical association between living in Pilões and Água-Fria and the occurrence of hepatitis was observed (Pearson’s

= 0.001). The consumption of locally-produced groceries (2.88; CI: 1.24–6.70) and water (5.88; CI: 2.24–15.45) were shown to be risk factors for the occurrence of liver disease. Thus, environmental exposure is still a public health problem present in the estuary region.
RESUMO Campomanesia adamantium é muito utilizada na medicina popular no tratamento de hipertensão, reumatismo e diabetes. Objetivou-se com o presente trabalho avaliar o rendimento, a composição ...química, e as atividades antimicrobiana e antioxidante do óleo essencial de folhas de C. adamantium submetidas a diferentes métodos e tempos de secagem. O delineamento utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado, com oito tratamentos e três repetições. O óleo essencial foi extraído por hidrodestilação das folhas e analisado por CG-EM. O tipo de secagem das folhas de C. adamantium influenciou no teor e na composição química do óleo essencial. Os constituintes espatulenol, óxido cariofileno e germacreno-B apresentaram maior concentração na maioria das procedências avaliadas. O óleo essencial das folhas de C. adamantium apresentou moderada atividade antibacteriana em relação a todos os micro-organismos testados. A atividade antioxidante se deu empregando-se o método de redução do radical estável DPPH, sendo observada fraca atividade antioxidante por meio do ensaio utilizado.
O docente que possui qualquer formação inicial que não seja a licenciatura necessita de uma complementação pedagógica para atuar na docência. Para isso, nos últimos anos os IFs vêm buscando implantar ...cursos de formação pedagógica, haja vista habilitar e capacitar os docentes que ainda não possuem tal formação. Nesse estudo objetivou-se avaliar a importância da formação pedagógica do tecnólogo para atuação como docente no Instituto Federal do Amapá – Campus Macapá. A pesquisa de campo foi realizada durante o ano letivo de 2017, sendo necessárias as seguintes etapas: análise documental (perfil para participar da pesquisa), aplicação dos questionários a todos os professores com a formação de tecnólogo, totalizando doze professores, sendo que apenas 9 responderam o questionário. Por meio do questionário foi possível traçar o perfil do docente, no que se refere a sexo, faixa etária, regime de trabalho, formação, experiência profissional (no magistério e em outras atividades), as especificidades e os desafios da prática docente na Educação Profissinal e Tecnólogica (EPT), conforme em estudos realizado por Silva (2003) e Pena (2014) ). Todavia, todo e qualquer docente deve atender ao processo de ensino / aprendizagem, sendo que antes devem ter conhecimento das diversidades e modalidades de ensino, situações e contexto social em que os discentes vivem, de modo que atendam aos anseios da sociedade como um todo. Os docentes que participaram dessa pesquisa salientaram que os cursos de formação continuada contribuem consideravelmente para a formação do tecnólogo, tendo em vista que é de suma importância para prática docente no sentido de aprimoramento de métodos de avaliações, aulas inovadoras, construção de provas contextualizadas, conhecer novas perspectivas sobre o ensino e regulamentações voltadas para atuação docente. Na dinâmica ensino / aprendizagem os docentes necessitam de capacitação para atender de forma satisfatória as diferentes modalidades de ensino e diversidade de cursos ofertados pela Instituição.
Atualmente o uso de métodos alternativos para o controle de doenças e pragas na agricultura, visando minimizar os danos ao meio ambiente e à saúde pública é uma prática reconhecida e necessária. Este ...trabalho objetivou investigar a ação do óleo essencial de Syzygium aromaticum (L.) Merr. & L.M.Perry sobre o crescimento micelial in vitro dos fungos fitopatogênicos Rhizoctonia solani, Fusarium solani, Fusarium oxysporum e Macrophomina phaseolina. A análise por cromatografia gasosa acoplada com espectrometria de massa possibilitou a identificação de eugenol (83,6%), acetato de eugenila (11,6%) e cariofileno (4,2%). A avaliação microscópica dos micélios dos fungos evidenciou diversas alterações morfológicas, como a presença de vacúolos, desorganização dos conteúdos celulares, diminuição na nitidez da parede celular, intensa fragmentação e menor turgência das hifas. O óleo essencial de cravo apresentou atividade fungicida na concentração de 0,15% sobre o crescimento de R. solani, F. oxysporum e F. solani, entretanto não demonstrou essa atividade sobre M. phaseolina. Esses resultados indicam perspectivas favoráveis para posterior uso do óleo de cravo no controle desses fitopatógenos na agricultura.

Objetivo:
Caracterizar o grau de acometimento neurológico, estabelecendo uma correlação entre o nível funcional da lesão e a aquisição da marcha, além de identificar os fatores que interferem ...nessa capacidade.
Método:
Foram avaliadas prospectivamente vinte e oito crianças portadoras de mielomeningocele operadas com idade igual ou superior a três anos. Foram determinados o nível funcional da lesão, a aquisição ou não da marcha e os fatores associados por meio das medidas do grau de força muscular nos membros inferiores, presença de deformidades articulares, ocorrência de contratura da musculatura flexora e trato iliotibial, eficácia da reação de equilíbrio e presença de hidrocefalia tratada.
Resultados:
Todos os fatores avaliados, exceto a hidrocefalia, foram relacionados de forma significativa à aquisição da marcha.
Conclusão:
A aquisição da marcha em crianças portadoras de mielomeningocele sofre influência de vários fatores, além do nível de acometimento neurológico, o que deve ser considerado no prognóstico e na programação terapêutica.
The central parsec around the supermassive black hole in the Galactic center (GC) hosts more than 100 young and massive stars. Outside the central cusp (R ~ 1'') the majority of these O and ...Wolf-Rayet (W-R) stars reside in a main clockwise system, plus a second, less prominent disk or streamer system at large angles with respect to the main system. Here we present the results from new observations of the GC with the AO-assisted near-infrared imager NACO and the integral field spectrograph SINFONI on the ESO/VLT. These include the detection of 27 new reliably measured W-R/O stars in the central 12'' and improved measurements of 63 previously detected stars, with proper motion uncertainties reduced by a factor of 4 compared to our earlier work. Based on the sample of 90 well measured W-R/O stars, we develop a detailed statistical analysis of their orbital properties and orientations. We show that half of the W-R/O stars are compatible with being members of a clockwise rotating system. The rotation axis of this system shows a strong transition from the inner to the outer regions as a function of the projected distance from Sgr A*. The main clockwise system either is either a strongly warped single disk with a thickness of about 10DG, or consists of a series of streamers with significant radial variation in their orbital planes. Eleven out of 61 clockwise moving stars have an angular separation of more than 30DG from the local angular momentum direction of the clockwise system. The mean eccentricity of the clockwise system is 0.36 - 0.06. The distribution of the counterclockwise W-R/O star is not isotropic at the 98% confidence level. It is compatible with a coherent structure such as stellar filaments, streams, small clusters or possibly a disk in a dissolving state: 10 out of 29 counterclockwise moving W-R/O stars have an angular separation of more than 30DG from the local angular momentum direction of the counterclockwise system. The observed disk warp and the steep surface density distribution favor in situ star formation in gaseous accretion disks as the origin of the young massive stars.
Protein-ligand docking is currently an important tool in drug discovery efforts and an active area of research that has been the subject of important developments over the last decade. These are well ...portrayed in the rising number of available protein-ligand docking software programs, increasing level of sophistication of its most recent applications, and growing number of users. While starting by summarizing the key concepts in protein-ligand docking, this article presents an analysis of the evolution of this important field of research over the past decade. Particular attention is given to the massive range of alternatives, in terms of protein-ligand docking software programs currently available. The emerging trends in this field are the subject of special attention, while old established docking alternatives are critically revisited. Current challenges in the field of protein-ligand docking such as the treatment of protein flexibility, the presence of structural water molecules and its effect in docking, and the entropy of binding are dissected and discussed, trying to anticipate the next years in the field.
