The aim of this study was to update visual outcomes, microbial spectrum and complications in eyes with endophthalmitis following cataract surgery.
A single-institution, retrospective review of eyes ...treated for endophthalmitis following cataract surgery between 2 January 2014 and 10 January 2017. This study included 112 cases of endophthalmitis following cataract surgery, 58 of which were culture-positive (51.8%). The most isolated organisms were coagulase-negative Staphylococci (56.9%). Oral flora were present in 17.2% of cases. At 6 months, 71.7% of patients achieved visual acuity of at least 20/200 and 51.7% achieved at least 20/40 or better. Visual acuity was better in culture-negative vs. culture-positive cases (∼20/290 vs. ∼20/80, P = 0.03), and in nonoral flora-associated vs. oral flora-associated culture-positive cases (∼CF vs. ∼20/150, P < 0.01).
Following postcataract surgery endophthalmitis, approximately 70% of eyes achieved vision of 20/200 or better and half achieved vision of 20/40 or better 6 months after treatment. Poor visual outcomes were seen in eyes with positive bacterial cultures and with oral flora.
Localized amyloidosis of the bladder is rare and often mimics bladder malignancy. It is typically associated with the extracellular deposition of monoclonal light chains, either κ or λ. The cause is ...unknown, but it is thought to be due to chronic inflammation/cystitis.
To highlight the importance of localized urinary bladder amyloidosis as a rare mimicker of urothelial malignancy and elucidate its clinical, histopathologic, and cytopathologic manifestations.
Cases of urinary bladder amyloidosis diagnosed during 2000-2023 were retrieved retrospectively from pathology archives. Electronic medical records, including cystoscopy findings and pathology slides including Congo red stain, were reviewed.
Here we present 6 patients with localized urinary bladder amyloidosis. Four of the 6 patients were women, with ages ranging from 46 to 69 years, and a mean age of 58 years. Five of 6 patients presented with hematuria, while in 1 patient, bladder amyloidosis was discovered incidentally. Cystoscopy findings invariably were concerning for malignancy, with raised erythema in 5 patients and fungating mass protruding into the bladder lumen in 1 patient. Bladder biopsies and urine cytology were negative for malignancy in all cases. Congo red-positive amyloid deposits involved lamina propria with sparing of the detrusor muscle. In 5 cases, the deposits were typed as derived from the λ light chain, whereas no information was available for 1 patient. Subsequent clinical workup ruled out systemic amyloidosis.
These cases of urinary bladder amyloidosis highlight the importance of considering rare amyloidosis in the differential diagnosis of hematuria and cystoscopy with a lesion mimicking malignancy.

Animal-based food supply chains lead to significant environmental impacts, which can be influenced by production systems, distribution networks and consumption patterns. To develop strategy aimed at ...reducing the environmental impact of animal-based food supply chains, the common environmental hotspots among different types of food, the role of transport logistics and the consequence of end market need to be better understood. Life cycle assessment was adopted to model three types of animal-based food chains (beef, butter and salmon), with specific technologies, high spatial-resolution logistics and typical consumption patterns for three markets: local, regional (intra-European) and international. The results confirmed that the farm production stage usually had the greatest environmental impact, except when air transport was used for distribution. Potentially, the role of end market also can significantly influence the environmental impacts. To understand more, three improvement options were examined in detail with regard to hotspots for climate change: novel feed ingredients (farm production stage), sustainable aviation fuel (transport and logistics stage) and reduction of wasted food (consumption and end of life stage). Significant reduction was achieved in the salmon system by sustainable aviation fuel (64%) and novel feed (15%). Minimizing food waste drove the greatest reduction in the beef supply chain (23%) and the international butter supply chain can reduce 50% of GHG mission by adopting sustainable aviation fuel. Combined interventions could reduce GHG emission of animal-based food supply chains by 15% to 82%, depending on market, transport and food waste behaviour. The results show that eco-efficiency information of animal-based foods should include the full supply chain. The effective mitigation strategy to achieve the greatest reduction should not only consider the impacts on-farm, but also detail of the downstream impacts, such as food distribution network and consumption patterns.

Quinolines are a prominent heterocyclic motif and crucial building blocks in creating physiologically active compounds. Due to the fast development of novel medicines with a quinoline nucleus, ...numerous research papers have been published in a short amount of time. Therefore, to comprehend the present state of the quinoline nucleus in medicinal chemistry science, it is necessary to combine new information with older data. So far, several traditional synthesis techniques have been reported in the literature to synthesize this scaffold. Pfitzinger, Gould-Jacob, Friedlander, Skraup, Doebner-von Miller, and Conrad-Limpach are examples of old synthetic methods. However, they need expensive and demanding conditions, such as high temperature, the use of non-biodegradable chemical compounds degrade the ecosystem, create irritation or harm as pollutants, and represent a threat to the environment. However, traditional synthesis processes need a difficult and time-consuming apparatus set-up, resulting in high costs and pollutants. As a result, scientists are presently developing new and innovative techniques to decrease the use of chemicals, solvents, and catalysts, which are detrimental to both humans and the environment. Therefore, we have attempted to shed light in this current review on various reactions to produce quinolines and their derivatives using various green synthetic methods.
The process of making or cutting patterns is called pattern-cutting, sometimes also called Patternmaking. The terminology is differing for everyone; college to college, city to city, country to ...country, but teaches the same. A pattern is a template from which the main fabric is cut and sewed to make the garments; they are usually made of paper, but they can be of fabrics too. Pattern cutting is usually done using two methods: The flat cutting method (2D) and the Draping method (3D). Under this, they can be further divided into two methods: Traditional pattern cutting and Creative pattern cutting. It is difficult to distinctly distinguish between traditional and creative methods. Every college that runs a Fashion, Textile and Apparel related design course has this subject under various names like Pattern cutting, Pattern making, Garment construction, Draping, Creative pattern cutting or Creative pattern making. The research is done with the students of India in colleges like NIFT, NID, GLS, UID who are studying or has studied under course named as Fashion/Textile/Apparel design. Study compares the extent of learning provided by colleges related to pattern cutting. Research was done questionnaire method using google forms and analysis was done using SPSS software.
To compare 2 mg intravitreal triamcinolone (IVT) versus 40 mg posterior sub-Tenon triamcinolone acetonide (STT) for the treatment of eyes with pseudophakic cystoid macular edema.
A retrospective, ...single-center review of eyes receiving 2 mg IVT between 3/1/2012-3/1/2017 and 40 mg STT between 1/1/2015-3/1/2017. Visual acuity (VA) and central macular thickness (CMT) were recorded at baseline, 1-, 3-, and 6-month follow-up visits.
Forty-five eyes were included in the IVT group and 50 eyes in the STT group. Change in VA from baseline to 1, 3, and 6 months was not significantly different between IVT and STT (6 months: 2.3 lines vs. 2.4 lines, p = .10). The IVT group achieved significantly better CMT improvement from baseline compared to STT at 1 month (255 μm vs. 187 μm; p = .03), but this difference was not present at month 3 (214 μm vs. 212 μm; p = .79) or month 6 (176 μm vs. 207 μm; p = .29). During the 6-month follow-up period, approximately 7% of eyes in the IVT group and 12% of eyes in the STT group developed ocular hypertension (p = .43), and all cases were successfully managed with topical anti-ocular hypertensive therapy or observation.
2 mg IVT and 40 mg STT both achieved significant improvement in vision and CMT with no significant difference between interventions at 3- and 6-month follow-up.
