The Geant4 Monte-Carlo (GEMC) package is used to simulate the passage of particles through the various CLAS12 detectors. The geometry is implemented through a database of Geant4 volumes created ...either through the GEMC native API, by the CLAS12 geometry service, or imported from the CAD engineering model. The truth information is digitized with a plugin mechanism by routines specific to each detector and includes the use of the CLAS12 calibration database constants to produce both ADC and TDC response functions. Theoretical models that produce the generated events interface with GEMC through the LUND data format. The merging of simulated data with real random trigger data provides a mechanism to include both beam and electronic background into the simulation of generated events to accurately model beam data from the CLAS12 detector. The performance of simulation is demonstrated by comparison with the experimental data.

We describe offline event reconstruction for the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer at 12 GeV (CLAS12), including an overview of the offline reconstruction framework and software tools, a ...description of the algorithms developed for the individual detector subsystems, and the overall approach for charged and neutral particle identification. We also present the scheme for data processing and the code management procedures.
We measured the ratios of electroproduction cross sections from a proton target for three exclusive meson-baryon final states: LambdaK+, ppi0, and npi+, with the CLAS detector at Jefferson Lab. Using ...a simple model of quark hadronization, we extract qq super(-) creation probabilities for the first time in exclusive two-body production, in which only a single qq super(-) pair is created. We observe a sizable suppression of strange quark-antiquark pairs compared to nonstrange pairs, similar to that seen in high-energy production.

The CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer at 12 GeV (CLAS12) is located in Hall B, one of the experimental halls at Jefferson Lab. The forward part of CLAS12 is built around a superconducting toroidal ...magnet. The six coils of the toroid divide the detector azimuthally into six sectors. Each sector contains three multi-layer drift chambers for reconstructing the trajectories of charged particles originating from a fixed target.
Each of the 18 planar chambers has two “superlayers” of six layers each, with the wires in the two adjacent superlayers oriented at ±6° stereo angles. Each layer has 112 hexagonal cells spanning a range from about 5° to 40° in polar angle. The six-layer structure provides redundancy in track segment finding and good tracking efficiency even in the presence of some individual wire inefficiency. The design, construction, operation, and calibration methods are described, and estimates of the efficiency and resolution are presented from in-beam measurements.

As part of the Jefferson Lab 12 GeV upgrade, the Hall B CLAS12 system requires two superconducting iron-free magnets — a torus and a solenoid. The physics requirements to maximize space for the ...detectors guided engineers toward particular coil designs for each of the magnets which, in turn, led to the choice of using conduction cooling. The torus consists of 6 trapezoidal NbTi coils connected in series with an operating current of 3770 A. The solenoid is an actively shielded 5 T magnet consisting of 5 NbTi coils connected in series operating at 2416 A. Within the hall, the two magnets are located in close proximity to each other and are completely covered both inside and outside by particle detectors. Stringent size limitations were imposed for both magnets and introduced particular design and fabrication challenges. This paper describes the design, construction, installation, commissioning, and operation of the two magnets.
A determination of the spin and parity of the $\Lambda(1405)$ is presented using photoproduction data from the CLAS detector at Jefferson Lab. The reaction $\gamma + p \to K^+ + \Lambda(1405)$ is ...analyzed in the decay channel $\Lambda(1405) \to \Sigma^+ + \pi^-$, where the decay distribution to $\Sigma^+ \pi^-$ and the variation of the $\Sigma^+$ polarization with respect to the $\Lambda(1405)$ polarization direction determines the parity. The $\Lambda(1405)$ is produced, in the energy range $2.55 < W < 2.85$ GeV and for $0.6 < \cos \theta_{K^+} < 0.9$, with polarization $P = 0.45 \pm 0.02 (\text{stat}) \pm 0.07 (\text{syst})$. The analysis shows that the decays are in $S$ wave, with the $\Sigma^+$ polarized such that the $\Lambda(1405)$ has spin-parity $J^P = 1/2^-$, as expected by most theories.

The photoproduction of vector mesons on various nuclei has been studied using the CLAS detector at Jefferson Laboratory. The vector mesons, rho, omega, and varphi, are observed via their decay to ...e;{+}e;{-}, in order to reduce the effects of final-state interactions in the nucleus. Of particular interest are possible in-medium effects on the properties of the rho meson. The rho mass spectrum is extracted from the data on various nuclei, 2H, C, Fe, and Ti. We observe no significant mass shift and some broadening consistent with expected collisional broadening for the rho meson.
