Rijeka je zbog svog položaja i povijesnih zbivanja oduvijek bila mjesto dodira i ispreplitanja različitih tradicija, kultura i jezika. U razdoblju od početka dvadesetoga stoljeća, pa do Prvoga ...svjetskog rata u toj je multikulturalnoj i višejezičnoj sredini postojala bogata tiskarska tradicija, tako da se u navedenom razdoblju tiskalo čak 13 periodičnih publikacija na četiri jezika koja su tada bila u uporabi (hrvatskome, talijanskome, njemačkome i mađarskome), a na daskama njenih dvaju kazališta igrale su se kazališne predstave na četiri jezika. U navedenom razdoblju u Rijeci je gostovalo pedesetak talijanskih glumačkih družina s više od 950 dramskih predstava, što je za duhovna strujanja unutar njenog urbanog kulturnog života od posebnog značaja. Te su gostujuće glumačke družine ujedno odigrale značajnu ulogu u kazališnome razvitku kao poveznice s europskim kazališnim životom i šire, s tadašnjom kulturom u srednjoeuropskim razmjerima. Slijedom takvog razvoja situacije i sama se Rijeka našla u središtu civilizacijskog međudjelovanja različitih kulturnih tradicija, te je odigrala vrlo značajnu ulogu i kao posrednik između tadašnjeg hrvatskog, talijanskog, mađarskog i njemačkog kulturnog kruga.Vrijedna svjedočanstva o tome nalaze se u tadašnjem riječkom tisku talijanskog govornog izraza koji do sada nije bio dovoljno istražen. Želeći svojim skromnim prilogom doprinijeti cjelovitijoj slici riječkog kazališnog života toga doba i riječkog kulturnog identiteta, koristili smo napise iz pet riječkih talijanskih periodičnih publikacija (La Voce del Popolo, Il Popolo, La Bilancia, La Difesa i La Giovine Fiume) kao izvornu dokumentaciju za analizu kazališnih tema vezanih uz talijanski segment riječkog dramskog glumišta. Namjera nam je bila da kroz književno - kritičku analizu kazališnih osvrta i kritike u dostupnim periodičnim publikacijama oslikamo stanje riječkog talijanskog dramskog glumišta kao značajnog čimbenika unutar riječkoga kulturnog identiteta, te doprinesemo njegovoj prepoznatljivosti u međunarodnom kontekstu.
Due to its position and historical events, Rijeka has always been a place of contact and intertwining of different traditions, cultures, and languages. During the period from the beginning of the 20th century until the First World War, there was a rich publishing tradition in that multilingual and multicultural environment, and in that period as many as 13 periodicals were published in four languages that were then in use (Croatian, Italian, German, and Hungarian), and in Rijeka’s two theaters, theatrical performances in four languages were given regularly. During this period, Rijeka hosted about fifty Italian acting troupes which delivered more than 950 performances, which is of special importance for the spiritual currents within its urban cultural life. These guest acting troupes also played a significant role in Rijeka’s theatrical development as links with European theatrical life and beyond, with the culture of the time on a Central European scale. Following such a development, Rijeka found itself at the center of civilizational interaction of different cultural traditions and played a very important role as a mediator between Croatian, Italian, Hungarian and German cultural circles of that time.Valuable evidence of this can be found in Rijeka’s Italian periodicals, which have not been sufficiently researched so far. Wanting to contribute to a more complete picture of Rijeka’s theatrical life of that time and Rijeka’s cultural identity, we used articles from five of Rijeka’s Italian periodicals (La Voce del Popolo, Il Popolo, La Bilancia, La Difesa and La Giovine Fiume) as original documentation for the analysis of theatrical themes related to the Italian segment of the Rijeka Drama Theater. Our intention was to complete the picture of the state of Rijeka’s Italian drama theater as a significant factor within Rijeka’s cultural identity, and to contribute to its recognizability in the international context through literary-critical analysis of theatrical reviews and critiques in available periodicals.
Riječka književnost na talijanskome jeziku, posebice na njenom narječju, fijumanskome dijalektu, dugo je vremena bila zapostavljana i tek se u posljednjim desetljećima ovo bogato područje riječke ...kulturne baštine podvrgnulo dubinskom sustavnom izučavanju. Neki su riječki znanstvenici i štovatelji riječke kulture kroz proučavanje i znanstvenu valorizaciju raznorodnih segmenata prisutnih u njenom multikulturalnom ozračju, utrli put fijumanologiji, odnosno fijumanistici, usmjerenoj ka revalorizacije bogate riječke kulturne baštine na talijanskome jeziku i njenom lokalnom izričaju, fijumanskome dijalektu. Namjera nam je nastaviti s analizom riječke književnosti na talijanskome jeziku, slijedeći misao riječkih znanstvenika koji su od osamdesetih i devedesetih godina prošloga stoljeća pa nadalje počeli provoditi intenzivniji istraživački rad na riječkoj multikulturalnosti. Ovim člankom o dijalektalnom segmentu talijanske riječke književnosti želimo doprinijeti proučavanju njenog korpusa u sklopu pogranične književnosti koja je iz povijesnih i drugih razloga predugo bila marginalizirana, te prinijeti pozornosti i sudu naših znanstvenika jedan vrijedan segment riječke književnosti, koja je možda i zbog jezične barijere nedovoljno istražena i vrednovana. Ujedno to smatramo svojim skromnim prinosom u kontekstu hrvatsko – talijanskih kulturno – književnih veza. Dijalektalni pjesnici okupljeni u tzv. „antejskoj konvenciji / tradiciji” mahom potpisuju svoje uratke neobičnim, šaljivim i autoironičnim umjetničkim imenima kao npr. Mario Schittar (Zuane de la Marsecia), Arturo Caffieri (de Rocambole), Gino Antony (Cavaliere di Garbo) i Oscarre Russi (Russeto). Najbitnija odrednica i zajednički nazivnik pjesnikovanja u sklopu konvencije je uporaba ironije, autoironije, humora, satire i persiflaže.
Rijeka’s literature in the Italian language, especially in its dialect, the Fiuman dialect, has been neglected for a long time, and it is only in recent decades that this rich area of Rijeka’s cultural heritage has undergone in-depth systematic study. Some Rijeka scholars and admirers of Rijeka’s culture, through the study and scientific valorisation of various segments present in its multicultural atmosphere, have paved the way for fiumanology and fiumanistics, aimed at revaluation of Rijeka’s rich cultural heritage in the local Italian dialect. We intend to continue with the analysis of Rijeka’s literature in the Italian language,following the thought of Rijeka scholars, who, since the eighties and nineties of the previous century, began to conduct more intensive research into Rijeka’s multiculturalism. With this article on the dialectal segment of Italian Rijeka literature, wewant to contribute to the study of its corpus within border literature that has been marginalized for too long for historical and other reasons, and to draw the attention of our scholars to a valuable segment of Rijeka’s literature. At the same time, we consider it our modest contribution in the context of Croatian - Italian cultural and literary ties. Dialect poets gathered around the so-called “Antaean convention / tradition” mostly sign their works with unusual, humorous, and self-ironic artistic names such as MarioSchittar (Zuane de la Marsecia), Arturo Caffieri (de Rocambole), Gino Antony (Cavaliere di Garbo) and Oscarre Russi (Russeto). The most important determinant and common denominator of poetry within the convention is the use of irony, self-irony, humour, satire, and persiflage.
Despite the abundance of periodicals in Italian language in Rijeka in the second half of the 19th century and early 20th century, their comprehensive and systematic research together with their ...modern and objective evaluation is still insufficient. With the aim of contributing to the elucidation and analysis of under-studied Italian publications in Rijeka, we have tried to consider from the contemporary point of view the context in which the subject of our interest appears, to study the available written documents, and to evaluate the facts of literary phenomena within a given corpus. We have tried to substantiate by examples the thesis that literary themes in our local newspapers and magazines of Italian language expression, besides further exploring the Italian literary heritage, have contributed to our overall cultural events through the opening of aesthetic horizons of readers and a number of authors, and have largely contributed to the intertwining of the two cultures. Through testing, systematization and classification of literary topics, we concluded that newspapers and magazines in Rijeka, as the most important medium of the historical period that we examined, have had a significant and dynamic part in the process that led to the gradual change of mindset, views on society and art, and an overall way of thinking and action. In our opinion, through our contribution we have tried to reconstruct from oblivion a valuable segment of Rijeka's cultural heritage.
Gino Antony (Trieste, 1877 – Casalecchio sul Reno, 1948) was a poet, prose writer and playwright. Although he was born in Trieste, he was considered an adoptive of Rijeka as he had lived there almost ...all his life. As a student in Siena he published a collection of poems Fiori di campo (1899). In Rijeka he started publishing texts in ‘La Voce del Popolo’ in which he described urban conditions and he was a successful writer of ‘elzevirs’ dealing with different topics of urban life. His main interest was related to the theatre and music. He was an animator of the arts club Società Filarmonico-drammatica, the centre from which Rijeka cultural irredentism radiated. He wrote five comedies in Italian: Eroi senza gloria (1904), Poveri illusi (1905), La prima e l’ultima (1905), Aria nuova (1905) and Anime schiave (1906). He also wrote two dialectal comedies (El ritorno and El zogo) that, unfortunately, were never published. However, Antony was better known as a dialectal poet. So he took the pseudonym ‘Cavaliere di Garbo’, and the editor Battara (1907) published his dialectal collection Sonetti fiumani which represents his most significant contribution to the history of Rijeka literature. His sonnets were often published in the Rijeka press of that time, and a great many of them were inspired by the daily politics. In them, the author masterfully uses different registers: descriptive, sentimental, nostalgic, and critical, in a kind of distorted or purified dialect. Since not all of Gino Antony’s works are available today, the aim of this paper is to provide an insight into his works through a press section of Italian periodicals from this period.

Purpose - The main aim of this research is to explore the issue of the role of foreign language abilities in the hospitality industry, focusing on the perspective of employees and students. The ...differences between theoretical and practical knowledge that lead to incompetence in using foreign languages in the real sector are usually the main problem of employees and students preparing for their quality service. Therefore, in this paper, a review of recent research is made to analyze the possible changes that need to be made in order to become aware of the need for foreign languages as an essential element in a quality service at all levels of the hospitality industry. Methodology - Foreign language proficiency in the hospitality industry involves the use of the specific hospitality language, which is the broad field of language for professional purposes. The research of this paper was conducted in the context of (1) investigating and comparing the attitudes towards the role of foreign language ability role of two different groups of respondents: Tourism employees and students attending the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management; (2) exploring the role of formal education on the quality of service performance. It included a questionnaire that explored how and why the role of foreign language ability in the hospitality industry is important from the perspective of employees and students. After collecting primary data from the survey results, the authors analysed them statistically using descriptive analysis to describe the socio-demographic profile of the respondents and the variables, and Independent Sample t-test to determine the statistically significant differences in the means between the two groups of respondents and selected variables. Findings - This case study examined two groups' attitudes toward the role of foreign language proficiency in the hospitality industry and the role of formal education on service quality. Examining the perspectives of two groups reveals that both groups are very aware of the importance of foreign language skills in their personal and professional lives. In addition, both groups perceived that the ability to communicate in a foreign language is important in achieving career advancement and a higher professional position. Contribution - This research confirms the importance of foreign language ability in the process of offering quality service. Due to the ever-increasing competition, tourism employees and students of the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management must be aware of the constant need to train their foreign language skills according to the requirements of the workplace. The advantage of foreign language learning will lead to quality service in the hospitality industry and tourism in general, increase competitiveness and increase profits.
Gino Antony (Antoni ili Antonj) (Trst, 1877. – Casalecchio sul Reno, 1948.) bio je pjesnik, prozaist i dramski pisac. Premda se rodio u Trstu, smatrao se adoptivnim Riječačninom, jer je u Rijeci ...proživio gotovo cijeli život. Još je kao student u Sieni izdao zbirku novela Fiori di campo (1899), a u Rijeci je započeo objavljivati u La Voce del Popolo gdje je kao vrstan poznavalac gradskih prilika i uspješni pisac elzevira obrađivao različite teme iz gradskog života. Njegov glavni interes bio je vezan uz kazalište i glazbu. Bio je animator kulturno-
-umjetničkog društva Società Filarmonico-drammatica, središta iz kojeg je isijavao riječki kulturni iredentizam. Napisao je pet komedija na talijanskome jeziku: Eroi senza gloria (1904), Poveri illusi (1905), La prima e l’ultima (1905), Aria nuova (1905) i Anime schiave (1906). Također je napisao dvije dijalektalne komedije (El ritorno i El zogo) koje nažalost nisu nikada izdane.
Antony je, međutim, bio poznatiji kao dijalektalni pjesnik. Tako je preuzeo pseudonim „Cavaliere di Garbo” i kod tiskara Battare (1907) objavio dijalektalnu zbirku Sonetti fiumani koji predstavljaju njegov najvažniji doprinos povijesti riječke književnosti. Njegovi soneti često su objavljivani u riječkome tisku toga doba i velik dio njih nadahnut je dnevnom politikom. U njima autor vješto koristi različite registre: opisni, sentimentalni, nostalgični i kritički, u nekoj vrsti iskrivljenog ili pročišćenog dijalekta.
Budući da nam danas nisu dostupna sva pisana djela Gina Antonyja, cilj je ovoga rada pružiti uvid u stvaralački opus toga pisca kroz presjek riječkoga tiska tog razdoblja.
Usprkos obilju građe riječke periodike na talijanskome jeziku u drugoj polovici 19. st. i početkom 20. st., u nas su izostala njezina cjelovita i sustavna istraživanja, te njezino suvremeno i ...objektivno vrednovanje. Želeći pridonijeti rasvjetljavanju te boljoj analizi nedovoljno proučene građe talijanskih publikacija u Rijeci, pokušali smo sa suvremene točke gledišta sagledati društveno-povijesni kontekst u kojem se pojavljuje predmet našeg interesa, proučiti dostupne pisane dokumente, te činjenično vrednovati književne pojave unutar zadanog korpusa. Primjerima smo nastojali potkrijepiti tezu da su književne teme u našim mjesnim novinama i časopisima talijanskoga jezičnog izraza, uz podrobnije upoznavanje talijanske književne baštine, pridonijele cjelokupnomu našemu kulturnom događanju kroz otvaranje estetskih obzora čitatelja i određenog broja stvaralaca, te dobrim dijelom pridonijele prožimanju dviju kultura. Putem ispitivanja, sistematizacije i klasificiranja književnih tema zaključili smo da su riječke novine i časopisi kao najznačajniji medij povijesnog razdoblja koje smo razmatrali imali važan i dinamičan udio u procesu koji je postepeno doveo do promjene stanja duha, pogleda na društvo i umjetnost, način mišljenja i djelovanja. Kroz naš smo prilog pokušali rekonstruirati i oteti zaboravu jedan, po našem mišljenju vrijedan segment riječke kulturne baštine.
This paper deals with anglicisms in the German language in tourism. Nowadays, the importance of tourism is being discussed very intensively and accordingly the language in tourism has become one of ...the significant topics in the field of linguistic research. Firstly, with regard to the specific features of the language in tourism, the status of a language in tourism as the language for specific purposes was determined. Since the language in tourism has been exposed to an increasingly intense global English influence, the term „anglicism‟ has been defined in the paper. The aim of the paper is to analyze the formation of complex and shortened anglicisms in the German language in tourism, and to emphasize the recognizable features such as language economy and a very high number of hybrid compounds. Among hybrid compounds a very remarkable part is built by phrasal compounds which is an evident result of the English influence. The analyzed corpus consists of three main subcorpora - subcorpus of the catalogues, journals, professional and scientific publications.
Lo scrittore fiumano Enrico Morovich (1906-1994) ha pubblicato in Italia un grande numero di racconti, romanzi e poesie: "l'osteria sul torrente" (1936), "Miracoli quotidiani" (1938), "I ritratti nel ...bosco" (1939), "Contadini sui monti" (1942), "l'abito verde" (1942), "ll baratro" (1964), "Raccontì a righe corte" (1977), "Ascensori invisibilì" (1980), "La nostalgia del mare" (1981), "Cronache vicine e lontane (1981), "La caricatura" (1983), "l giganti marinici (1984), "Racconti di Fiume e altre cose" (1985), "Notti con la luna" (1986), "Piccoli amanti" (1990), "Non era bene morire" (1992) e "Un italiano di Fiume" (l993). Questo articolo si e' premesso lo scopo di rintracciare e definire, attraverso il metodo dell'analisi delle sue opere a livello di contenuto e dei meccanismi narrativi e stilistici, gli elementi del fantastico e dell'umoristico che rappresentano una costante della narrativa di Enrico Morovich, il cui stile originale e moderno lo contraddistingue nettamente dalle tendenze letterarie vigenti e dalle mode dettate dal momento storico. Vuole inoltre rappresentare un contributo ad una maggiore conoscenza dell'opera di Enrico Morovich da noi.
The aim of the paper was to investigate some recent LSP teaching trends in order to ascertain the necessity of the application of the most important scientifically based and methodologically relevant ...principles in that context. After some initial considerations about LSP teaching trends, we concentrated on the new role of the participants in the language acquiring process mentioning also the learning contract. We proceeded by explaining the importance of raising cultural awareness during the process of language acquiring, after which we dealt with the application of the aforementioned scientifically based facts and the didactical principles that form the bases o f two textbooks for Italian in the hotel industry and tourism.
