We present the transverse momentum spectra and rapidity distributions of {pi}{sup -} and K{sub S}{sup 0} in Ar + KCl reactions at a beam kinetic energy of 1.756 A GeV measured with the High ...Acceptance Di-Electron Spectrometer (HADES). The reconstructed K{sub S}{sup 0} sample is characterized by good event statistics for a wide range in momentum and rapidity. We compare the experimental {pi}{sup -} and K{sub S}{sup 0} distributions to predictions by the Isospin Quantum Molecular Dynamics (IQMD) model. The model calculations show that K{sub S}{sup 0} at low transverse momenta constitute a particularly well-suited tool to investigate the kaon in-medium potential. Our K{sub S}{sup 0} data suggest a strong repulsive in-medium K{sup 0} potential of about 40 MeV strength.
The emission of e+e- pairs from C+C collisions at an incident energy of 1 GeV per nucleon has been investigated. The measured production probabilities, spanning from the pi0-Dalitz to the rho/omega! ...invariant-mass region, display a strong excess above the cocktail of standard hadronic sources. The bombarding-energy dependence of this excess is found to scale like pion production, rather than like eta production. The data are in good agreement with results obtained in the former DLS experiment.
In the present study, we investigated the impact of MK-801, a non-competitive NMDA receptor antagonist, on the density of serotonergic receptors of the 5-HT1A subtype and on the metabolism of ...serotonin in various regions of the rat brain containing terminals and cell bodies of serotonergic neurons. The binding of 3H8-OH-DPAT to 5-HT1A serotonin receptors was increased after MK-801 (0.4 mg/kg) as was shown by autoradiographic studies in the frontal, cingulate and part of enthorinal cortex, subregions of the hippocampus and raphe nuclei. The above receptor changes were observed at 2 h and, in some brain regions, at 24 h after MK-801. In saturation binding studies, an increase in the Bmax value in the rat hippocampus was found after MK-801 (0.4 mg/kg) while no changes being noted in the Kd value. MK-801 (0.4 mg/kg) increased the concentration of the serotonin metabolite 5-HIAA in the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus, respectively, at 2 and 3 or 3 h after administration, being without effect on the level of serotonin. In the dorsal raphe nucleus, MK-801 (0.4 mg/kg) decreased the level of serotonin without affecting the level 5-HIAA (0.5 h after administration) or increased the level of 5-HIAA without altering the concentration of serotonin (3 h after administration). It is concluded that single administration of MK-801 may alter the density of serotonergic 5-HT1A receptors and in consequence influence the function of the central nervous system associated with activation of 5-HT1A receptors.
The technique of Brainstem Electric Response Audiometry (BERA) is a non-invasive electrophysiologic method used in comatose patients for localization of areas of neuronal and synaptic dysfunction not ...evident in clinical evaluation. This test has a diagnostic and prognostic value in detection of abnormalities and evaluation of comatose head-injured patients at a reversible clinical stage. In contrast to most clinical signs, brainstem auditory evoked potentials are independent of levels of consciousness, analgesics, sedatives. This test is aetiologically non-specific and must be carefully integrated into the clinical situation. Generators of brainstem auditory evoked potentials are located in the auditory nerve (waves I and II) and brainstem (waves III-V). Patients in acute posttraumatic coma are assessed by means of Glasgow Coma Score (GCS), which is reliable in forecasting a favourable outcome. Patients with a score 8 points have an unfavourable outcome in 16%. Brainstem auditory evoked potentials are reliable predictors of unfavourable outcome. Subsequent brainstem auditory evoked potential testing provides relevant prognostic information, since improvement of graded brainstem auditory evoked potentials indicates a favourable outcome. Progressive deterioration of brainstem auditory evoked potentials indicates irreversible damage and is associated with unfavourable outcome, whereas singular abnormal evoked potentials may result from reversible neuronal dysfunction. The absence of waves III-V associated with the end EEG activity is the proof of brain death. Serial BERA monitoring has been used to evaluate progressive clinical syndromes, such as "uncal herniation" and evolving brain death. The use of serial BERA recordings appeared to improve the outcome predictions in comparison with single BERA tests. A combination of brainstem auditory evoked potentials, somatosensory and visual evoked potentials (multimodality evoked potentials-MEP) provides more information for management of a patient than a single evoked potential modality. The main goal to use BERA is early detection of secondary deterioration in comatose patients suffering from intracranial lesions. The results of brainstem auditory evoked potentials and clinical examination of patients obtained within the acute phase after head injury may indicate increased intracranial pressure (ICP) and incipient transtentorial herniation but do not always predict outcome (GOS). The outcome can be better evaluated later, 3-6 days after head injury. In summary, BERA is a non-invasive, safe and objective method of evaluating patients after severe head injury and adds valuable information for assessment of their outcome.
We present the results of a study of charged-pion production in

C collisions at incident beam energies of 1A GeV and 2A GeV using the HADES spectrometer at GSI. The main emphasis of the ...HADES program is on the dielectron signal from the early phase of the collision. Here, however, we discuss the data with respect to the emission of charged hadrons, specifically the production of
mesons, which are related to neutral pions representing a dominant contribution to the dielectron yield. We have performed the first large-angular-range measurement of the distribution of
mesons for the

C collision system covering a fairly large rapidity interval. The pion yields, transverse-mass and angular distributions are compared with calculations done within a transport model, as well as with existing data from other experiments. The anisotropy of pion production is systematically analyzed.

The studies to evaluate production technology of cereal crops mixtures, oats and spring barley in the area of Lodz Province were conducted in 2002-05. Following low values of technology complexity ...index were obtained: 40.0 percent for cereal mixtures, 42.9 percent oats and 53.0 for spring barley. The most frequent discrepancies as compared to agrotechnical recommendation concern application of insecticides (0 percent of users), growth regulators (0 percent), fungicides (2.8 percent), foliar nitrogen fertilization (23.6 percent), microelements (8.7 percent) and seed certified material (4.7 percent)
