Background: Nowadays, organizations try to improve their performance by focusing on the business process orientation (BPO) perspective. This perspective views companies as a mixture of unified ...business processes. A few methodologies can be used for analysing BPO maturity state. The maturity model shows the level of acceptance of the process-oriented approach in the business practice of a certain company. Recognizing different BPO levels can help companies execute, improve and manage their processes.
Objectives: The primary aim of this research is to give a report on BPO maturity of Croatian companies and to stress the importance of key turning points.
Methods/Approach: The cluster analysis method was used to analyse the survey results.
Results: Croatian companies are currently evolving from the Defined level to the Linked level of BPO maturity.
Conclusions: The results of the cluster analysis have shown that companies in Croatia have to improve all key turning points, with a special emphasis on the strategic view.

Prepoznavanje različitih razina procesne orijentacije može pomoći poduzećima da izvrše, poboljšaju i upravljaju svojim procesima. Postoji nekoliko metodologija koje se mogu koristiti za analizu stanja zrelosti procesne orijentacije. Model zrelosti pokazuje stupanj prihvaćanja procesne orijentacije u poslovnoj praksi odredenog poduzeća. Istraživanje u ovom radu ima za cilj izvijestiti o zrelosti procesne orijentacije u poduzećima Republike Hrvatske i naglasiti važnost procesnih elemenata. Za analizu rezultata odgovora prikupljenih anketom koristi se metoda klaster analize koja je pokazala kako su hrvatska poduzeća trenutno pozicionirana izmedu definirane i povezane faze zrelosti procesne orijentacije. Takvi rezultati provedenog istraživanja ukazuju na to kako poduzeća u Hrvatskoj moraju unaprijediti sve elemente procesne orijentacije u svrhu napredovanja u više faze procesne zrelosti.
For more than two decades, developed countries have been confronted with two trends that have implications for the emergence of engaging senior citizens in the digital environment. On the one hand, ...there is an increasing proportion of senior citizens in the total population. On the other hand, the application of ICT in all areas of life and business is accelerating. This paper investigates the relationship between self-efficacy, social support, and social influence on Internet usage among senior citizens in Croatia. Survey research was conducted on a sample of Croatian senior citizens, and a structural equation mode was developed for testing the research hypothesis. Self-efficacy influenced both the Intensity and obstacles of Internet usage in a positive and negative manner, respectively. Social influence directly decreased the obstacles to Internet usage, while the relationship with the Intensity of the Internet was indirect through self-efficacy. Social support had only an indirect association with Intensity of Internet usage. Results have relevant implications for programmes aiming to enhance Internet usage among senior citizens, which should focus on the educational programmes fostering perceived self-efficacy of Internet usage among senior citizens.
Purpose
The paper investigates differences in the success of business process management (BPM) initiatives and their connection with organizational culture. The purpose of this paper is to identify ...propositions on characteristics of BPM initiative that are favorable for its success according to dominant organizational culture. Therefore, the authors’ aim was to identify connections of organizational commitment to BPM and dimensions of business process orientation (BPO) with dominant organizational culture.
Design/methodology/approach
As a research design, the authors used a questionnaire to collect data on the BPM adoption practices of organizations in Austria, Croatia and Slovenia with more than 50 employees. BPM adoption was measured with BPO and organizational culture with Competing Values Framework (CVF). Non-parametric tests have been applied for the analysis. On this survey data, the authors conducted statistical tests to identify those factors that discriminate successful from unsuccessful BPM initiatives.
Findings
The study revealed empirical insights about characteristics of successful BPM initiatives in different organizational cultures. There are several statistically significant differences with respect to the success of BPM adoption. The chance of success appears to be higher: when the BPM initiative is rolled out in the entire organization if the organization has Clan, Market or Hierarchy culture; when the BPM is run on a continuous basis in Hierarchy culture and repeatedly in Adhocracy culture; when a top-down approach is used in organizations with Market or Hierarchy dominant culture; when the BPM initiative has a strategic role and formal responsibilities are defined in Clan and Hierarchy cultures.
Originality/value
The authors’ empirical findings provide the basis for the formulation of detailed propositions on the interaction of various factors and their impact on BPM adoption in connection to organizational culture. In this way, the authors’ contribution is situated in the inductive research cycle and informs theory building for BPM adoption.
Both business process management (BPM) and corporate performance management (CPM) are receiving much attention in academic circles, as well as in business practice. One of the main reasons behind ...their adoption within organizations is enhancing overall organizational performance (OP). Therefore, this article aims to explore the link between BPM and CPM and how their maturities affect their alignment. Moreover, the article deals with the impact of BPM-CPM alignment to OP. Although there are some studies dealing with empirical confirmation that either BPM or CPM increases OP, to the best of authors’ knowledge, none of the studies tries to investigate their combined impact in terms of an alignment empirically. Hence, this article focuses on shedding some light on the importance of BPM-CPM alignment and its connection to OP. A survey has been conducted in medium sized and large organizations operating in Slovenia and Croatia resulting in a total of 159 answers. Observed organizations have been segmented in two clusters, using k-means algorithm: low-performers and high-performers, revealing statistically significant differences between them for all observed variables. Results also indicate that the BPM-CPM alignment increases when both BPM and CPM maturities are higher. Furthermore, OP of the observed organizations has been examined through named two clusters. The Mann-Whitney U test revealed there are statistically significant differences between OP variables among low-performers and high-performance clusters, indicating the relationship of BPM-CPM alignment with OP.
The competitive global market of the new millennium has raised awareness of business processes as the most important management paradigm. Extensive literature on business process management suggests ...that organizations can enhance their overall performance by adopting a process view of business. However, empirical research in this field is lacking. The aim of this paper is to examine the how business process orientation (BPO) impacts financially and non-financially organizational performance (OP) using empirical data from Croatian companies. A questionnaire survey was conducted on a sample of 127 companies in Croatia and propositions were tested using a structural equation model. The results suggest that the BPO practice relates positively to non-financial performance. In addition, the impact of non-financial performance on financial performance has been verified as well. This effect on financial performance is indirectly caused by non-financial factors suggesting that companies should view performance in such terms as well. The paper is valuable for academics and practitioners because the impact of BPO on OP is confirmed. An improved understanding and the clearly demonstrated financial and non-financial benefits of implementing and practicing BPO opens up a wider application of such systems in everyday business, which will eventually lead to their refinement and further development.

The state-of-the art literature finds that business process management projects very often fail to fulfil the measurement requirements. The reason lies in the fact that companies understand the need ...to identify and define process measures, but do not implement the measurement practices. The objective of this paper is to examine the role of process performance measurement in BPM adoption outcomes. To achieve that, the literature in this field is reviewed and the results of an empirical study conducted in Croatian companies are analyzed and discussed. The results of statistical analysis support the proposed theoretical background. In practical terms, this survey identifies process performance metrics and performance linkages as the key factors that need to be in place for a company to effectively adopt BPM.
Companies worldwide are embracing Business Process Orientation (BPO) in order to improve their overall performance. This article presents research results on key turning points in BPO maturity ...implementation efforts. A key turning point is defined as a component of business process maturity that leads to the establishment and expansion of other factors that move the organization to the next maturity level. Over the past few years, different methodologies for analyzing maturity state of BPO have been developed. The purpose of this article was to investigate the possibility of using data mining methods in detecting key turning points in BPO. Based on survey results obtained in 2013, the selected data mining technique of classification and regression trees was used to detect key turning points in Croatian companies. These findings present invaluable guidelines for any business that strives to achieve more efficient business processes.
