Single photon emission computed tomography(SPECT) is a useful medical imaging modality using single photon detection from radioactive tracers, such as 99Tc and 111In, however further development of ...increasing the contrast in the image is still under investigation. A novel method (Double Photon Emission CT / DPECT) using a coincidence detection of two cascade gamma-rays from 111In is proposed and characterized in this study. 111In, which is well-known and commonly used as a SPECT tracer, emits two cascade photons of 171 keV and 245 keV with a short delay of approximately 85 ns. The coincidence detection of two gamma-rays theoretically determines the position in a single point compared with a line in single photon detection and increases the signal to noise ratio drastically. A fabricated pixel detector for this purpose consists of 8×8 array of high-resolution type 1.5 mm thickness Ce:GAGG (3.9% @ 662 keV, 6.63g/cm3, C&A Co. Ce:Gd3Ga2.7Al2.3O122.5×2.5×1.5 mm3) crystals coupled a 3 mm pixel SiPM array (Hamamatsu MPPC S13361-2050NS-08). The signal from each pixel is processed and readout using time over threshold (TOT) based parallel processing circuit to extract the energy and timing information. The coincidence was detected by FPGA with the frequency of 400 MHz. Two pixel detectors coupled to parallel-hole collimators are located at the degree of 90 to determine the position and coincidence events (time window =1μs) are detected and used for making back-projection image. The basic principle of DPECT is characterized including the detection efficiency and timing resolution.
The spin precession frequency of muons stored in the (g-2) storage ring has been analyzed for evidence of Lorentz and CPT violation. Two Lorentz and CPT violation signatures were searched for a ...nonzero delta omega a(=omega a mu+ - omega a mu-) and a sidereal variation of omega a mu+/-). No significant effect is found, and the following limits on the standard-model extension parameters are obtained: bZ = -(1.0+/-1.1) x 10(-23) GeV; (m mu dZ0 + HXY)=(1.8+/-6.0) x 10(-23) GeV; and the 95% confidence level limits b perpendicular mu+ <1.4 x 10(-24) GeV and b perpendicular mu- <2.6 x 10(-24) GeV.
Compton imaging is a useful method to localize gamma sources without using mechanical collimators. In conventional Compton imaging, the incident directions of gamma rays are estimated in a cone for ...each event by analyzing the sequence of interactions of each gamma ray followed by Compton kinematics. Since the information of the ejection directions of the recoil electrons is lost, many artifacts in the shape of cone traces are generated, which reduces signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and angular resolution. We have developed an advanced Compton imaging system with the capability of tracking recoil electrons by using a combination of a trigger-mode silicon-on-insulator (SOI) pixel detector and a GAGG detector. This system covers the 660-1330 keV energy range for localization of contamination nuclides such as super(137) Cs and super(134) Cs inside the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in Japan. The ejection directions of recoil electrons caused by Compton scattering are detected on the micro-pixelated SOI detector, which can theoretically be used to determine the incident directions of the gamma rays in a line for each event and can reduce the appearance of artifacts. We obtained 2-D reconstructed images from the first iteration of the proposed system for super(137) Cs, and the SNR and angular resolution were enhanced compared with those of conventional Compton imaging systems.
Flammutoxin (FTX), a 31-kDa pore-forming cytolysin from Flammulina velutipes, is specifically expressed during the fruiting body formation. We cloned and expressed the cDNA encoding a 272-residue ...protein with an identical N-terminal sequence with that of FTX but failed to obtain hemolytically active protein. This, together with the presence of multiple FTX family proteins in the mushroom, prompted us to determine the complete primary structure of FTX by protein sequence analysis. The N-terminal 72 and C-terminal 107 residues were sequenced by Edman degradation of the fragments generated from the alkylated FTX by enzymatic digestions with Achromobacter protease I or Staphylococcus aureus V8 protease and by chemical cleavages with CNBr, hydroxylamine, or 1% formic acid. The central part of FTX was sequenced with a surface-adhesive 7-kDa fragment, which was generated by a tryptic digestion of FTX and recovered by rinsing the wall of a test tube with 6 M guanidine HCl. The 7-kDa peptide was cleaved with 12 M HCl, thermolysin, or S. aureus V8 protease to produce smaller peptides for sequence analysis. As a result, FTX consisted of 251 residues, and protein and nucleotide sequences were in accord except for the lack of the initial Met and the C-terminal 20 residues in protein. Recombinant FTX (rFTX) with or without the C-terminal 20 residues (rFTX271 or rFTX251, respectively) was prepared to study the maturation process of FTX. Like natural FTX, rFTX251 existed as a monomer in solution and assembled into an SDS-stable, ring-shaped pore complex on human erythrocytes, causing hemolysis. In contrast, rFTX271, existing as a dimer in solution, bound to the cells but failed to form pore complex. The dimeric rFTX271 was converted to hemolytically active monomers upon the cleavage between Lys(251) and Met(252) by trypsin.

to the very high precision of 0.35 parts per million and thus requires ...a storage ring magnet with great stability and homogeniety. A superferric storage ring with a radius of 7.11 m and a magnetic field of 1.45 T has been constructed in which the field quality is largely determined by the iron, and the excitation is provided by superconducting coils operating at a current of 5200 A. The storage ring has been constructed with maximum attention to azimuthal symmetry and to tight mechanical tolerances and with many features to allow obtaining a homogenous magnetic field. The fabrication of the storage ring, its cryogenics and quench protection systems, and its initial testing and operation are described.
