There is significant evidence that pathology of the microcirculation occurs in African swine fever (ASF); however, the mechanisms by which it develops are largely unknown. In the present experimental ...infection study, we show that an increase in vascular permeability in the initial stages of acute ASF is dependent on viraemia and elevation of the concentration of serum nitric oxide (NO). Macrophages activated by ASF virus (ASFV) are stimulated to produce NO and simultaneously to sensitize the endothelial cells through the action of vascular endothelial growth factor Β (VEGFΒ), which is followed by an increase in VEGF-mediated endothelial permeability. In the later stages of disease, the endothelial cells undergo DNA proliferation, which may additionally provoke capillary leakage, point haemorrhages and migration of blood cells into tissues. The possible mechanism of a shift in the cell cycle from the G1 to S and G2 stages could be a direct effect of ASFV. The terminal stages of disease are characterized by triggering of compensatory mechanisms such as stimulation of the synthesis of stromal cell-derived factor-1.
We show that integral representation of universal volume function of compact simple Lie groups gives rise to six analytic functions on
C

, which transform as two triplets under group of ...permutations of Vogel’s projective parameters. This substitutes expected invariance under permutations of universal parameters by more complicated covariance. We provide an analytic continuation of these functions and calculate their change (anomaly) under permutations of parameters (Vogel’s symmetry). This last relation is universal generalization, for an arbitrary simple Lie group and, moreover, to an arbitrary point in Vogel’s plane, of the Kinkelin’s reflection relation on Barnes’

function. Kinkelin’s relation gives asymmetry of the

line on Vogel’s plane. Our results also give an anomaly of Vogel’s symmetry of the universal partition function of Chern–Simons theory on three-dimensional sphere. This effect is analogous to modular covariance, instead of invariance, of partition functions of appropriate gauge theories under modular transformation of couplings.

We have carried out a spectral classification by the activity types for a subsample of blazars from the BZCAT v.5 Catalogue, namely the Flat Spectrum Radio Quasars (FSRQ) candidates, designated in ...the catalogue as BZQ subtype objects. The classification is based on the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) homogeneous medium-resolution optical spectroscopy and along with the standard BPT-type diagnostic diagrams, we have applied our newly introduced fine classification scheme with subtypes of quasars and considering many more features. Out of 1909 BZQ objects, 618 having SDSS spectra were classified, resulting in 445 broad-line QSOs, 19 narrow-line QSOs, 138 broad-line Seyferts, 8 narrow-line Seyferts, and 2 Emission-line galaxies without a proper classification. We have calculated the absolute magnitudes and luminosities for all objects to distinguish QSOs from Seyferts, as defined by the Catalogue of QSOs and Active Galaxies, -22

An investigation into the design of a stand-alone solar water pumping station for supplying rural areas is presented. It includes a study of system components and their modeling. The solar water ...pumping station comprises a solar panel, DC/DC buck converter, DC motor driving a centrifugal pump, and a reservoir. The fuzzy-based maximum power point tracker is developed to optimize the drive speed and the water discharge rate of the coupled centrifugal pump. These use dN/I, d(dN/dI) use parameters, and a variation of the fill factor∆α as input variables. The proposed solution is based on a judicious fuzzy adjustment of a converter fill factor, which adapts online the load impedance to the solar panel. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the drive system for both transient and steady-state operations. Hence, it is suitable to use this fuzzy logic procedure as a standard optimization algorithm for such solar water pumping stations. The modeling is carried out in MATLAB/Simulink.
Abstract
Background
While the prevalence of oral diseases in high-income countries is decreasing, the opposite is true in low and middle-income countries. Parental awareness about oral health has ...been shown to be an important contributor to children's oral health. This study evaluated the association between parental oral health knowledge and the oral health status of their children aged 6-10 years in two rural communities of Armenia.
Methods
This cross-sectional study included two main components: telephone survey among parents measuring sociodemographic, oral health knowledge, and behavioral variables, and clinical examination of children's oral health. Multivariable linear regression was used to identify the adjusted association between parental oral health knowledge score and children's oral health measured by plaque index.
Results
A total of 400 pairs of parents and children participated in the study. The mean plaque index among children was 3.1 (out of the maximum 5.0), demonstrating abundant coverage of teeth with plaque. The mean parental knowledge score was 6.9 (out of the maximum 9.0), indicating above-average oral health awareness. The items with the lowest proportion of correct responses were the belief that caries is preventable, the importance of daily flossing, and using fluoride-added toothpaste/water for preventing caries, with 75.1%, 60.4%, and 59.9% of correct answers respectively. The multivariable analysis found negative association between parental oral health knowledge score and children's plaque index (B= -0.24, p = 0.039), when controlling for other significant variables.
Conclusions
The study confirmed the importance of parental oral health knowledge for the oral health of their children and highlighted the knowledge gaps that should be addressed. The high prevalence of dental plaque among the children emphasized the need for complex interventions, including educational activities, preventive clinical procedures, and improved access to dental care.
Key messages
• In two rural communities of Armenia, there was a clear link between parental oral health knowledge and oral health status of their primary schoolchildren measured by plaque index.
• Well-focused educational interventions targeting parents of primary schoolchildren combined with children’s better access to dental care are recommended for improving their oral health.
A one-pot, Cu-catalyzed direct C-H arylselenation protocol using elemental Se and aryl iodides was developed for nitro-substituted,
N
-alkylated pyrazoles, imidazoles and other heterocycles including ...4
H
-chromen-4-one. This general and concise method allows one to obtain a large number of unsymmetrical heteroaryl selenides bearing a variety of substituents. The presence of the nitro group was confirmed to be essential for the C-H activation and can also be used for further functionalisation and manipulation. Several examples of heteroannulated benzoselenazines were also synthesized using the developed synthetic protocol.
In this work, we elaborated a general and straightforward method which permits the rapid assembly of unsymmetrical heteroaryl-aryl selenides containing 4-nitropyrazole, 4-nitroimidazole and a few other heterocyclic scaffolds.
Ear, nose, and throat (ENT) diseases cause major disruption in patients' daily lives. Self-medication with conventional and herbal drugs are common in ENT patients. Recent studies reported that the ...ENT patients' self-medication with conventional medication ranged from 79.1-83.0%. It is also reported that the rate of herbal drug utilization among ENT patients ranges from 2-63% in different nations. The research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of "Herbanoma" as a Phyto preparation for ENT diseases according to the prognostic clinical significance of changes in quality-of-life parameters. The study employed the stratified sampling technique to randomly select participants. Five secondary schools of Yerevan were chosen through random selection, followed by the selection of 236 observation units from the selected schools. For the treatment and prevention of diseases of the upper respiratory tract, we used the herbal inhalation mixture "Herbaroma" as an ingredient. The composition of these drops is approved by the Intellectual Property Agency of the Republic of Armenia. SF-36 questionnaire was used to assess the quality of life of adolescents aged 15-17 years who had ENT diseases. The change of the parameters of QL in the experimental group had the greatest clinical significance for the components RP, RE, SF, and Mental Health - MH. The effectiveness of the preventive program was also evaluated according to the main groups of ENT diseases. The clinical significance of the effectiveness of the program for chronic diseases of the nasal cavities was significantly high for almost all components of the quality of life, in particular: Physical health - PH, Mental Health - MH. The program had great effectiveness for this group of ENT diseases. The clinical significance of the effectiveness of prevention programs for chronic inflammatory diseases of the throat was significantly high for the following components of the quality of life: RP, GH, PH, MH. The program has been highly effective for this group of ENT diseases. The clinical significance of the effectiveness of the prevention of chronic inflammatory diseases of the ear was generally assessed as weak. It had reliable average clinical significance for SF, RE, and MH components. Among school-aged children with ENT pathology, the use of the "Herbaroma" drug for prophylactic purposes leads to an improvement in quality-of-life parameters. According to the results of the research, the "Herbaroma" drug had an anti-inflammatory, antiseptic effect, contributed to the reduction of the incidence of acute respiratory viral infections, and the prevention of complications. The use of the relatively safe and effective "Herbaroma" preparation in school conditions should be included in the comprehensive program of preventive measures.
An analytical model of a pair-interacting electron gas localized in an asymmetric biconvex strongly oblate lens-shaped GaAs quantum dot has been considered. The wave functions and the energy spectrum ...of the system have been calculated in the frame of the exactly solvable two-dimensional Moshinsky model. The character of long-wavelength transitions between the center of mass levels of the system have been obtained when the generalized Kohn’s theorem is realized.
