This paper presents the results of a computational investigation on the effects of wall boundary conditions on the hydrodynamics of an annular fluidized bed (AFB). The objective is to develop better ...understanding of the hydrodynamics of an AFB, which are very complex as there are two wall surfaces with which the particles interact and fall along. The wall boundary conditions are investigated by varying the values of specularity coefficient. Simulations are performed using an open source code MFiX by employing the two-fluid model which considers solid and gas as the interpenetrating continua where the solid viscous stress tensor is calculated using the kinetic theory of granular flow. Geldart-B particles with a diameter of 530μm and air as a fluidizing agent are used. A circumferential core-annulus structure is observed in the reactor. The hydrodynamics of AFB is very sensitive to the specularity coefficient. Low values of specularity coefficient produce high particle velocities in the bed as there is less loss of tangential momentum to the walls. However, the bed height predicted by all the values is found to be similar. Concerning the bubble statistics, it was found that low specularity coefficient values produce large bubbles usually in the form of slugs whereas as the specularity coefficient value is increased, small bubbles begin to form.

Thiadiazole derivatives 1–24 were synthesized via a single step reaction and screened for in vitro β-glucuronidase inhibitory activity. All the synthetic compounds displayed good ...inhibitory activity in the range of IC50=2.16±0.01–58.06±1.60μM as compare to standard d-saccharic acid 1,4-lactone (IC50=48.4±1.25μM). Molecular docking study was conducted in order to establish the structure–activity relationship (SAR) which demonstrated that thiadiazole as well as both aryl moieties (aryl and N-aryl) involved to exhibit the inhibitory potential. All the synthetic compounds were characterized by spectroscopic techniques 1H, 13C NMR, and EIMS.
A new series of 4-(4′-chlorophenyl)-4-hydroxypiperidine derivatives (2—5), substituted at nitrogen, were synthesized and tested as potential analgesic compounds as well as evaluated for their effect ...on hypotensive activity. Results showed that all the derivatives exhibit significant analgesic activity in male Wistar rats at a dose of 50 mg/kg of body weight after intramuscular injection, when tested by thermal stimuli (tail flick test). Pethidine was used as reference drug. Compounds 2, 3 and 5 produced reduction in blood pressure in normotensive rat.
People in developing countries traditionally rely on plants for their primary healthcare. This dependence is relatively higher in forests in remote areas due to the lack of access to modern health ...facilities and easy availability of the plant products. We carried out an ethno-medicinal survey in Teknaf Game Reserve (TGR), a heavily degraded forest and conservation area in southern Bangladesh, to explore the diversity of plants used by Rohingya refugees for treating various ailments. The study also documented the traditional utilization, collection and perceptions of medicinal plants by the Rohingyas residing on the edges of this conservation area. We collected primary information through direct observation and by interviewing older respondents using a semi-structured questionnaire. A total of 34 plant species in 28 families were frequently used by the Rohingyas to treat 45 ailments, ranging from simple headaches to highly complex eye and heart diseases. For medicinal preparations and treating various ailments, aboveground plant parts were used more than belowground parts. The collection of medicinal plants was mostly from the TGR.

Graphene oxide/carbon nanotube/poly (O-toluidine) (GO-CNT-POT) nanocomposite was prepared by a situ polymerization method and characterized by X-ray powder diffractometry (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The antibacterial activity of the obtained GO-CNT-POT nanocomposite was also evaluated against Gram positive bacteria Bacillus subtilis, Gram negative bacteria Escherichia coli and antibiotics (Amoxicillin) using the agar plate. The antibacterial study showed that the GO-CNT-POT was found to be most effective against both B. subtilis and E. coli respectively which was significant compared to the amoxicillin and the simultaneously GO-CNT-POT nanocomposite were fabricated onto glassy carbon electrode (GCE) using conducting coating binders by I–V technique, where the total analytical parameters were measured for the development of sensitive lead sensors (Pb2+). The GO-CNT-POT nanocomposite were deposited on flat-GCE (surface area: ∼0.0316cm2) to result in a sensor that has a fast response to selective Pb2+ ions in buffer system. Features including sensitivity, detection limit, reproducibility, linear dynamic range, selectivity, and electrochemical performances were investigated in details with the GO-CNT-POT nanocomposite fabricated GCE electrodes. The calibration plot is linear (r2: 0.9907) over the large concentration range (0.1nM to 1.0mM). The sensitivity and detection limit is calculated as 8.53164μAcm−2μM−1 and 89.0 pM (at a signal-to-noise-ratio, SNR of 3) respectively.
Introduction and importance: Pituitary stalk interruption syndrome (PSIS) is a rare congenital condition affecting the pituitary gland and its stalk, leading to hormonal imbalances. PSIS can present ...with a wide range of symptoms, including delayed puberty and short stature. Case presentation: This paper discusses two cases of PSIS in patients with a history of growth hormone deficiency. The first case is of a 26-year-old male presenting with fatigue and loss of appetite, while the second case is of a 14-year-old male presenting with delayed puberty. Blood tests revealed hormonal imbalances, and a subsequent MRI confirmed the diagnosis of PSIS. Hormonal supplements were prescribed to manage the condition, and follow-up appointments were scheduled to monitor progress. Clinical discussion: PSIS can present with a wide range of symptoms, and can be diagnosed at different ages. Early diagnosis and management of PSIS are crucial to prevent long-term complications such as short stature, impaired cognitive function, and infertility. The use of hormonal supplements, as seen in both cases, is essential to manage the hormonal imbalances associated with PSIS. Testosterone replacement therapy is used to treat hypogonadism, while thyroxine and hydrocortisone are used to manage hypothyroidism and adrenal insufficiency, respectively. Conclusion: Early diagnosis and management of PSIS through hormonal supplements are crucial to prevent long-term complications. It is essential to monitor patients’ progress through follow-up appointments to ensure optimal management of the condition.
To document a case of an intraosseous angiolipoma (IOAL) of the humerus.
A 52-year-old woman presented with gradually increasing pain in her right arm. A X-ray series of the right elbow and computed ...tomography revealed a nonexpanding radiolucent lesion in the distal end of the right humerus. The fatty nature of the lesion was further verified using fat-suppression techniques on magnetic resonance imaging sequences.
The tumor was surgically excised, and the patient has experienced no symptoms for 2 years now. Histopathological findings confirmed the presence of an IOAL, which is an extremely rare intraosseous tumor that consists of thin blood vessels and mature adipose tissue.
Accurate diagnosis of an IOAL is challenging; therefore, careful planning and assessment are paramount in the management of such lesions, with histological findings being essential for a conclusive diagnosis and surgery is the most suitable treatment choice in most cases.
The objective of this laboratory study was to analyze the effect of different grit-blasting pressures on adhesion of resin to silica-coated and silanized Ti using the shear bond test.
A total of 24 ...commercially pure grade 2 Ti coupons (1mm×20mm×40mm) were prepared and randomly assigned to 4 groups based on surface treatment: 150kPa grit-blasting pressure with RocatecTM Soft (group 1) for 10s. Similarly, groups 2, 3 and 4 were treated at 280kPa (control), 330kPa and 380kPa grit-blasting pressures, respectively, and followed by silanization. A total of 10 resin stubs per group were bonded onto each treated surface with photopolymerization. The shear bond strength was measured after 24h dry storage in a desiccator, 2 months H2O storage, and 4 months H2O storage. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and two-way ANOVA (p<0.05).
After 24h, initial SBS values of tested groups were significantly higher (32.0% for group 1, 39.1% for group 3, and 23.9% for group 4) than the control (group 2). After artificial aging, SBS values decreased in all the groups. The highest adhesion strength was seen in 150kPa (13.0±3.0) and 280kPa (4.9±2.4) after 2 months, and 4 months artificial aging, respectively.
A lower grit-blasting pressure might promote adhesion strength in long term water aging.
Case Report.
To report a case of a paraganglioma presenting in an uncommon location in the abdomen.
A 24-year-old man with an abdominal lesion presented with one-year history of severe headaches and ...palpitations.
The tumor was surgically resected and was later diagnosed as an extra-adrenal paraganglioma.
The unique location of a paraganglioma could prove misleading, making it easier to confuse it with other malignant lesions, but it still can't be excluded, and with proper techniques it can be surgically excised.
•Paragangliomas (PGLs) are slow-growing tumors of neuroendocrine origin.•PGLs in the portocaval region are considered extremely rare.•Their unusual location has its own implications that must be carefully considered.•Clinical findings with imaging techniques and laboratory tests are key to diagnosis.•Surgical resection remains the gold standard of treatment.
