Based on analysis of archival sources, the article presents the thus far unresearched Nazi plunder of artistic heritage in the region of Gorenjska (Upper Carniola) during the Second World War and ...focuses on organisation of operations and their protagonists. Due to the complexity and scope of the topic, identification and analysis of the plundered artworks are left for future study. The inconsistencies in understanding of the process, which arise from the numerous gaps in documentation, are overcome via a case study revealing how the operations were implemented in practice. Presented in the second part of the article, it focuses on the transfer of inventory from the church of St Lucy in Dražgoše, which was burnt down by the Germans in January 1942 in the aftermath of the battle in its immediate surroundings. A part of the artworks they removed from the church before destroying it are still missing today.
In the summer of 1945, a new monument honoring the Soviet soldiers who fell in the town's vicinity during the final operations for the liberation of Prekmurje, was unveiled on Victory Square in the ...center of Murska Sobota. The "Victory monument" is one of many monuments to the Red Army erected on the liberated territories in the early post-war years, and the only one of its kind in Slovenia. Despite its significance, it has thus far not been the subject of detailed scientific research. The present article deals with its erection, fate, and reception in the context of similar monuments to the Soviet army in the former Yugoslavia and the wider (East) European territory, and bases its findings on accessible archival sources, relevant comparative literature, media coverage, and a thorough art-historical analysis. Publication Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and antibiotic resistance rates of extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Proteus mirabilis strains isolated from inpatients at the Split ...University Hospital (southern Croatia) during a survey performed between 2005 and 2008. A total of 2152 consecutive isolates of P. mirabilis were isolated. The prevalence was 0.5 % in 2005 and increased significantly to 20.9 % by 2008. Strains were most frequently isolated from urine (36.5 %) and bronchial aspirates and wound swabs (11.3 %). ESBL-producing P. mirabilis isolates showed very high resistance rates to the majority of non-β-lactam antibiotics and were susceptible to a β-lactam/β-lactamase inhibitor and carbapenems. The isolates were genotyped and their ESBLs were molecularly characterized. Strains originating from the intensive care unit and the surgery and neurosurgery wards were clonally related. All P. mirabilis isolates produced the TEM-52 type of ESBL. To the best of our knowledge, our work detailed here and summarized in an earlier communication is the first report of such isolates from southern Croatia. Increased monitoring and screening for ESBL production in this species at our hospital is mandatory.

An $L(2,1)$-labeling of a graph is a mapping $c:V(G) \to \{0,\ldots,K\}$ such that the labels assigned to neighboring vertices differ by at least $2$ and the labels of vertices at distance two are ...different. Griggs and Yeh SIAM J. Discrete Math. 5 (1992), 586―595 conjectured that every graph $G$ with maximum degree $\Delta$ has an $L(2,1)$-labeling with $K \leq \Delta^2$. We verify the conjecture for planar graphs with maximum degree $\Delta \neq 3$.
