Described is the development of a computer-aided assessment device to predict & monitor reading & spelling skills in early primary school, based on a dynamic causal model. In a three-year ...longitudinal study of first-grade Ss (N = 310 to start, 225 at end), the development of decoding skills, reading comprehension skills, & spelling skills was tracked to look at the relations among these predictor variables. It appeared that the strength of causal relations between variables changed during the development of reading. The model's predictive value is discussed. 2 Tables, 3 Figures, 25 References. J.
