In this special issue, we argue for an Educational Psychology inspired by Hubert Hermans' Dialogical Self Theory, which refutes restrictive and deterministic cognitive psychology interpretations, ...complements the socio-constructivist approach of classical "black box" and, explains how intra-psychological dynamics, the mental society, is created and interacts with external society. The notion of I-position and its great versatility appears as central, as well as dialogue, both in its public and private performance, as a self-dialogue. Dialogue is the basis of teaching, learning, thinking, and decision making. It is also the foundation on which the professional identity is built. Teaching, tutoring, advising, innovating, undertaking, investigating are, in short, different ways of dialoguing with ourselves and with the world, giving meaning to what we do.
Scientific literature has repeatedly demonstrated the difficulty of implementing relevant and sustained educational innovations. In this article, we defend that a deep and permanent change can only ...be achieved if the professional identity of the teachers participating in the innovation is changed. From the perspective of the Dialogical Self Theory, this change of identity implies a change in the I-positions of the individual participants, but also of their identity as a team or We-position.

This research tries, first of all, to validate the model of competency profile of university teachers, recently developed by eight Catalan universities (Torra et al., 2012); the second objective is ...to test whether teachers considered competent share some features of a professional teaching identity, defined by the representations of teachers about their roles, teaching and assessment strategies and their feelings about their professional practice. To reach these objectives, we selected a sample of 20 teachers (10 men and 10 women) from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, considered competent and experienced teachers, and they answered an in-depth interview to give us an account of their declared teacher identity. After a content analysis of the interviews, the study concludes by showing that: a) in general terms, the competence profile model is confirmed, but the deeper sense and significance that these competences have to participants is conflictive. We identified five thematic spaces that posed discrepancies and conflicts with the theoretical model; b) the participants have clear regularities in the way of conceiving and coping with teaching in university classrooms. We think that the results provide valuable guidance for the design of training programs and evaluation systems for university teachers.
La interpretación de una lectura es un acto dialógico, un espacio de encuentro de diferentes voces que confluyen en la mente del lector. Entre esas voces, se encuentran las que el lector reconoce en ...la propia obra —personajes, narrador, autor— así como aquellas voces que invoca y cuya procedencia reside en experiencias y conocimientos anteriores, por ejemplo: voces propias, voces de personas cercanas, voces de otros autores y personajes, etc. Todas ellas, modelan los pensamientos y decisiones del lector, y lo orientan en su interpretación y comprensión de la obra. Pero esas voces no siempre conviven en armonía, sino que pueden aparecer en conflicto, enfrentadas, contrapuestas. Es en esa dinámica dialógica donde cobran especial relevancia las voces más centrales que integran a otras, pues de ellas dependerá la interpretación final del lector. El estudio que presentamos pretende ofrecer una explicación integral y comprensiva del proceso de interpretación literaria a partir de la revisión de la Perspectiva Dialógica de Mijaíl Bajtín y de la Teoría del Yo Dialógico de Huber Hermans. Ambas definen al buen lector como un agente consciente y activo cuando afronta una actividad lectora compleja, como es la literaria.

Doctoral candidates rely on diverse individuals to cope with the challenges of their doctoral trajectory. In this article we define Doctoral Support Networks (DSNs) as the group of individuals with ...whom the doctoral candidate intentionally collaborates in order to deal with the problems and difficulties of the doctorate. We aim to explore the characteristics of this type of networks and their relationships with doctoral program conditions and researcher identity development. Results from a cluster analysis identified two groups of doctoral candidates based on the characteristics of their network: those with Distributed and Active DSNs (56.8%) and those with Reduced and Passive DSNs (43.2%). The first group reported more frequent interactions with a wider range of individuals from both academic and extra-academic contexts, higher levels of emotional support and direct advice to cope with doctoral challenges and difficulties, and a higher level of identification with the researcher position.
RESUMEN Fundamento: la identidad docente representa el pensar, el hacer y el sentir que surge de la enseñanza. Su renovación radical es efectiva cuando la reflexión sea la estrategia de afrontamiento ...que domine el profesor ante incidentes críticos originados en las aulas. Objetivo: establecer el vínculo entre las dimensiones de la identidad profesional del docente en Matronería y las estrategias de afrontamiento ante los incidentes críticos más recurrentes en contextos educativos. Métodos: se realizó un estudio cualitativo-interpretativo en tres universidades privadas chilenas de la provincia de Concepción, donde se imparte la carrera Obstetricia y Puericultura durante el período marzo-agosto de 2019. Se emplearon métodos teóricos: análisis-síntesis e inductivo-deductivo; empíricos: entrevistas semiestructuradas y grupos de discusión. Resultados: se investigaron tres unidades de análisis con sus correspondientes códigos: identidad profesional del matron/a docente, incidentes críticos en la docencia en Matronería, y estrategias de afrontamiento; los profesionales expresaron sus concepciones, estrategias y emociones sobre la docencia y revelaron que las formas de abordaje reflexivas transitorias son las más utilizadas. Los incidentes críticos más recurrentes fueron por incumplimiento de normas de conducta de los estudiantes, falta de claridad de los contenidos y desorganización del tiempo, espacios y recursos. Conclusiones: se estableció el vínculo entre las dimensiones de la identidad profesional del docente en Matronería y sus estrategias de afrontamiento ante los incidentes críticos. Si bien existe una toma de decisión adecuada, no es suficiente para lograr un cambio en su identidad, por lo que necesitan una formación pedagógica para perfeccionar sus funciones docentes.
