The feasibility of 2-deoxy-2-18Ffluoro-D-galactose ( 18FFdGal) for imaging galactose metabolism in tumors with positron emission tomography (PET), was investigated using two hepatomas, Yoshida ...sarcoma, or glioma in rats, and mouse mammary carcinoma. In hepatoma-bearing rats the highest uptake of 18FFdGal was observed in the liver followed by the kidney and tumor. The tumor uptake increased with time, and the high uptake ratios of tumor to organ were observed except for the liver and kidney. Tumor uptake was also measured in all tumors. As main metabolites in all tumors, 18FFdGal 1-phosphate and UDP-18FFdGal were found by HPLC. Two hepatomas showed a slightly higher uptake and a larger percentage of UDP derivative than the other three tumors. By autoradiography the brain tumor was visualized clearly. These results indicate that 18FFdGal has potential as a tracer for imaging galactose metabolism in tumors with PET.
Nine volunteers, 5 females and 4 males, ranging from 66 to 88yr (average 80.2yr) participated in this study. Yoghurt (130g) prepared with Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus strain 2038 and ...Streptococcus salivarius subsp. thermophilus strain 1131 was administrated twice a day for 2 weeks. The odor of the feces was improved and the number of bifidobacteria in feces was significantly increased by the administration of yoghurt. In addition, the concentration of ammonia in feces was significantly decreased and the concentration of the other putrefactive metabolites such as p-cresol, indole and skatole were also decreased by the administration of yoghurt. The decrease in fecal pH was also found by the administration of yoghurt.

A rare earth iron permanent magnet is developed. It comprises compacted Fe--B--R type alloy particles, in which R represents at least one element selected from rare earth elements and yttrium, a ...sealing agent filling voids between the compacted Fe--B--R type alloy particles, and a coating layer formed on the outer surface of the permanent magnet. The coating layer is formed by coating the permanent magnet surface wrought in a desired magnet shape.
