The present study investigates the career development of college student persistence decisions through the theoretical lens of social cognitive career theory (SCCT). Specifically, the authors sought ...to understand the potential role of college self-efficacy in first-year student persistence and academic success at a medium size university. Using a final sample of 401 undergraduates, regression analyses suggested that increased levels of college self-efficacy at the first semester’s end were associated with greater odds of persisting into the Spring semester and of being academically successful, after controlling for gender, ethnicity, first-generation status, high school grade point average (GPA), and initial level of college self-efficacy. Results suggest that college self-efficacy may be an important cognitive variable in college students’ persistence decisions and their academic success, which offers additional information about their early career development and is valuable for career counselors to consider. Implications for theory, research, and practice are discussed.
Travel cost models are regularly used to determine the value of recreational sites or particular site characteristics, yet congestion, a key site attribute, is often excluded from such analyses. One ...reason for this omission is that congestion is determined in equilibrium by the process of individuals sorting across sites and thus presents significant endogeneity problems. This paper illustrates this source of endogeneity, describes how previous research has dealt with it using stated preference techniques, and describes an instrumental variables approach to address it in a revealed preference context. We demonstrate that failing to address the endogeneity of congestion leads one to dramatically understate its costs. We apply our technique to the valuation of a large recreational fishing site in Wisconsin (Lake Winnebago) which, if eliminated, would induce significant re-sorting of anglers amongst remaining sites. Ignoring congestion leads to an understatement of the lake's value by more than 50%.
For counsellors and counsellor educators, developing a sound sense of professional identity is a necessity in preserving and advancing the counselling field. In an effort to promote professional ...identity development in a group of counsellors in training, a co-mentoring programme was developed that paired master's level and doctoral level counsellors. The participants used letter writing and email to support the development of these mentoring relationships over the course of a semester. This study attempted to measure the effectiveness of the co-mentoring programme using interview data and written artefacts. An open, axial and selective coding process was employed. The participants of the study identified themes of enhanced professional identity development and collegial professional relationships as a result of participating in the co-mentoring relationship. Further research is needed to determine how best to support professional identity development for emerging professionals and the effectiveness of mentoring relationships and letter writing in this developmental process. A co-mentoring programme may offer training settings an opportunity for student self-awareness and growth in an experiential and meaningful manner, as well as providing additional opportunities for students to develop their professional identity. Implications for the use of co-mentoring and mentoring programmes to aid in the identity development of counsellors or other professionals are addressed.

Counseling can be a vulnerable process for clients and counselors alike. Counselors-in-training often find their early development to be an ambiguous and anxiety-provoking process. Both metaphors and ...experiential activities are effective methods in counselor training for addressing the ambiguity of counseling and the concerns experienced by counseling students. This article describes how counselor educators can use photography as a metaphor to support counselor development. We also outline four creative photography activities designed to foster self-reflection, professional identity development, and multicultural awareness among counselors-in-training.
Radiologic orbital imaging provides important information in the diagnosis and management of orbital inflammation. However, the diagnostic value of orbital imaging is not well elucidated. This study ...aimed to investigate the diagnostic accuracy of orbital imaging to diagnose orbital inflammatory diseases and its ability to detect active inflammation. We collected 75 scans of 52 patients (49 computed tomography (CT) scans; 26 magnetic resonance (MR) imaging scans). Clinical diagnoses included thyroid eye disease (TED) (41 scans, 31 patients), non-specific orbital inflammation (NSOI) (22 scans, 14 patients), sarcoidosis (4 scans, 3 patients), IgG4-related ophthalmic disease (IgG4-ROD) (5 scans, 3 patients), and granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) (3 scans, 1 patient). Two experienced neuroradiologists interpreted the scans, offered a most likely diagnosis, and assessed the activity of inflammation, blinded to clinical findings. The accuracy rate of radiological diagnosis compared to each clinical diagnosis was evaluated. Sensitivity and specificity in detecting active inflammation were analyzed for TED and NSOI. The accuracy rate of radiologic diagnosis was 80.0% for IgG4-ROD, 77.3% for NSOI, and 73.2% for TED. Orbital imaging could not diagnose sarcoidosis. Orbital CT had a sensitivity of 50.0% and a specificity of 75.0% to predict active TED using clinical assessment as the gold standard. The sensitivity/specificity of orbital MR was 83.3/16.7% for the detection of active NSOI. In conclusion, orbital imaging is accurate for the diagnosis of IgG4, NSOI, and TED. Further studies with a large number of cases are needed to confirm this finding, especially with regard to uncommon diseases. Orbital CT showed moderate sensitivity and good specificity for identifying active TED.

Background
Restorative Eye Treatment with TriHex Technology (RET) is a topical eye product with peptides and botanicals that reduce the appearance of crow's feet, under-eye bags, and dark ...circles. INhance with TriHex Technology (IH) is a topical product that has been clinically proven to accelerate the clearance of bruises and aid in the reduction of swelling. TriHex Technology has been shown to regenerate collagen and elastin.
Objectives
Evaluate the use of RET compared to a bland moisturizer prior to blepharoplasty and the bilateral use of INhance postoperatively.
Methods
Blepharoplasty patients were randomized to use either RET or a bland moisturizer, twice daily, on the designated periocular skin for 4 weeks prior to the procedure. Postoperatively, participants applied IH bilaterally, at least 4 times a day, and returned for follow-up on Days 1 or 3, 7, and 14. The removed upper-eyelid skin (13 patients) underwent independent dermatopathological evaluation.
Results
Investigators noted no differences in peri-operative complications but observed faster improvement in swelling, bruising, discomfort on the treated side. 85% of participants had less edema and bruising on the RET pretreated side. Biopsy results revealed improved extracellular matrix appearance on the RET pretreated side. Participants agreed that IH alleviated their swelling and noted that their skin felt and appeared more hydrated.
Conclusions
A regimen designed for eyelid surgery employing a pretreatment product component and a post treatment product appear to have a positive impact on measured outcomes in blepharoplasty patients including effects on bruising, swelling and patient comfort.

Given the unique experiences of collegiate athletes and the need to facilitate their transition as they complete postsecondary education and join the workforce, the present study sought to evaluate a ...group-administered career development program at a US university focused on preparing students for the transition into professional life upon graduation. Utilizing the quantitative portion of the Life After Sport Scale, we surveyed National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I student athletes to examine the relationship between attending the career intervention sessions and career-athlete identity. Results suggested that attending one or more program session workshops was not significantly related to career-athlete identity, while student gender had the strongest association with this potentially important construct in student athlete career development. Research and practice implications of these findings are discussed.

). The purpose of this study was to examine the differences in students’ perceptions of a learning community when enrolled in an online or on-campus introduction to counseling course. Participants were beginning graduate and advanced undergraduate students interested in pursuing a higher education degree in counseling. Results indicated no significant difference in students’ perceptions of learning communities based on course format.
This paper presents a new random utility model of recreation demand that addresses the unobserved characteristics of recreation sites. Most random utility recreation demand models implicitly assume ...that all relevant site characteristics are observed by the researcher or allow for the possibility of unobserved characteristics in a restrictive manner. Unlike traditional approaches, the proposed model avoids the bias unobserved site characteristics can cause in welfare estimates and the travel cost parameter. Monte Carlo simulations motivate the proposed model by showing that it provides more efficient parameter estimates. In contrast, existing methods yield less efficient estimates and biased standard errors that overstate precision. An empirical application to recreational fishing in Wisconsin illustrates the potential importance of this modeling innovation. In this application, controlling for unobserved characteristics is important for a range of model specifications.
Research shows that introductory courses in college provide an opportunity to invoke transformative learning, enhance students’ ability to take the role of the “other,” and encourage an authentic ...learning experience (Mezirow

). Few studies, however, have examined transformative approaches wherein students examine heterosexist ideologies. This study introduces a teaching strategy using a guided imagery script designed to challenge students’ previously-held ideas about heterosexism and homophobia. Using data from students enrolled in introductory sociology course offered at a major university in the West, this study presents qualitative data on students’ emotional and intellectual responses to the guided imagery. The authors offer this guided imagery exercise as an effective teaching tool.
