ABSTRACT We present a catalog of sources detected above 50 GeV by the Fermi-Large Area Telescope (LAT) in 80 months of data. The newly delivered Pass 8 event-level analysis allows the detection and ...characterization of sources in the 50 GeV-2 TeV energy range. In this energy band, Fermi-LAT has detected 360 sources, which constitute the second catalog of hard Fermi-LAT sources (2FHL). The improved angular resolution enables the precise localization of point sources (∼1 7 radius at 68% C. L.) and the detection and characterization of spatially extended sources. We find that 86% of the sources can be associated with counterparts at other wavelengths, of which the majority (75%) are active galactic nuclei and the rest (11%) are Galactic sources. Only 25% of the 2FHL sources have been previously detected by Cherenkov telescopes, implying that the 2FHL provides a reservoir of candidates to be followed up at very high energies. This work closes the energy gap between the observations performed at GeV energies by Fermi-LAT on orbit and the observations performed at higher energies by Cherenkov telescopes from the ground.
Keywords SNARC · Digit · Numerosity · Approximate number system · A theory of magnitude · Working memory Introduction Previous studies suggest that people represent numbers spatially resembling a ...mental number line (Restle, 1970; for a review, see Toomarian & Hubbard, 2018). ...while the ATOM model focuses on the magnitude properties of the stimuli, the working memory (WM) model (van Dijck & Fias, 2011) claims that all stimuli can be spatially organized in WM and can elicit SNARC-like effects. ...both models fundamentally suggest that numbers have no special relationship with space and that numerical and non-numerical stimuli should elicit comparable SNARC-like effects. In sum, symbolic numerals are deemed to be represented in a linear fashion, while non-symbolic numerals in a logarithmic fashion. ...psychophysical laws only apply to non-symbolic numerals, which are processed in the same way as all other perceptual continua (such as loudness or brightness), while symbolic numerals are processed in a unique and exact way. According to previous literature, both symbolic and non-symbolic numerals should elicit a SNARC effect.
Objectives
The objective was to report and compare the complications and recurrence rates of urethral prolapse in dogs when treated with urethropexy, resection and anastomosis or a combined surgical ...technique. Study design: Retrospective study.
Materials and Methods
A total of 86 dogs were identified from the medical records of 10 veterinary referral hospitals from February 2012 and October 2022. Dogs were included if they underwent surgery for a urethral prolapse at first presentation. Complications were classified as minor or major based on the necessity of further surgical intervention. Complications leading to death were also considered major complications.
Results
Seventy‐nine dogs were included, urethropexy (n=44), resection and anastomosis (n=27) and a combined surgical technique (n=8). Minor complications were identified in 41 of 79 dogs (51.9%): urethropexy 19 of 44 (43.2%), resection and anastomosis 18 of 27 (66.6%) and a combined surgical technique four of eight (50%). Major complications occurred in 23 dogs (29.1%), of which 21 were recurrence (26.6%). Recurrence occurred in 17 of 44 dogs following a urethropexy (38.6%), three of 27 dogs following resection and anastomosis (11.1%) and one of eight dogs treated with a combined surgical technique (12.5%). Recurrence of a urethral prolapse was significantly more likely following urethropexy in comparison to resection and anastomosis.
Clinical Significance
Resection and anastomosis was associated with a lower recurrence rate in comparison to urethropexy for the surgical treatment of urethral prolapse. Based on these results, we concluded that resection and anastomosis may be preferable to urethropexy for treatment of urethral prolapse at first presentation. Urethropexy, and resection and anastomosis combined surgical technique was associated with low recurrence rate; however, further studies will be needed to clarify if it provides any benefit over resection and anastomosis.
Ammonium
-(pyridin-2-ylmethyl)oxamate (AmPicOxam), synthesized from
-methyl-
-(pyridin-2-ylmethyl)oxamate, was spectroscopically and structurally characterized and assayed as a novel precursor for ...the protection and consolidation of carbonate stone substrates. An in-depth characterization of treated and untreated biomicritic limestone and white Carrara marble samples was carried out by means of SEM microscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, helium pycnometry, determination of water transport properties, and pull-off tests. The improved solubility (1.00 M, 16.5%
/
) of the title compound with respect to ammonium oxalate (0.4 M, 5%
/
) results in the formation of a thicker protective coating of calcium oxalate (CaOx) dihydrate (weddellite) on marble and biomicrite samples after the treatment with 5% and 12%
/
water solutions, producing a reduction in the stone porosity and increased cohesion. Theoretical calculations were carried out at the DFT level to investigate both the electronic structure of the
-(pyridin-2-ylmethyl)oxamate anion and the hydrolysis reaction leading from AmPicOxam to CaOx.
Recent detections of the starburst galaxies M82 and NGC 253 by gamma-ray telescopes suggest that galaxies rapidly forming massive stars are more luminous at gamma-ray energies compared to their ...quiescent relatives. Building upon those results, we examine a sample of 69 dwarf, spiral, and luminous and ultraluminous infrared galaxies at photon energies 0.1-100 GeV using 3 years of data collected by the Large Area Telescope (LAT) on the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope (Fermi). Measured fluxes from significantly detected sources and flux upper limits for the remaining galaxies are used to explore the physics of cosmic rays in galaxies. We find further evidence for quasi-linear scaling relations between gamma-ray luminosity and both radio continuum luminosity and total infrared luminosity which apply both to quiescent galaxies of the Local Group and low-redshift starburst galaxies (conservative P-values > ~0.05 accounting for statistical and systematic uncertainties). The normalizations of these scaling relations correspond to luminosity ratios of log (L sub(0.1,100 GeV)/L sub(1.4 GHz)) = 1.7 + or - 0.1 sub((statistical)) + or - 0.2 sub((dispersion)) and log (L sub(0.1-100 GeV)/L sub(8,1000 mu m)) = -4.3 + or - 0.1 sub((statistical)) + or - 0.2 sub((dispersion)) for a galaxy with a star formation rate of 1 M sub(middot in circle) yr super(-1), assuming a Chabrier initial mass function. Using the relationship between infrared luminosity and gamma-ray luminosity, the collective intensity of unresolved star-forming galaxies at redshifts 0 > z > 2.5 above 0.1 GeV is estimated to be 0.4-2.4 x 10 super(-6) ph cm super(-2) s super(-1) sr super(-1) (4%-23% of the intensity of the isotropic diffuse component measured with the LAT). We anticipate that ~10 galaxies could be detected by their cosmic-ray-induced gamma-ray emission during a 10 year Fermi mission.
MITO-8 showed that prolonging platinum-free interval by introducing non-platinum-based chemotherapy (NPBC) does not improve prognosis of patients with partially platinum-sensitive recurrent ovarian ...cancer. Quality of life (QoL) was a secondary outcome.
Ovarian cancer patients recurring or progressing 6–12months after previous platinum-based chemotherapy (PBC) were randomized to receive PBC or NPBC as first treatment. QoL was assessed at baseline, third and sixth cycles, with the EORTC C-30 and OV-28 questionnaires. Mean changes and best response were analysed. Progression-free survival, response rate, and toxicity are also reported for proper interpretation of data. All analyses were based on intention-to-treat.
Out of the 215 patients, 151 (70.2%) completed baseline questionnaire, balanced between the arms; thereafter, missing rate was higher in the NPBC arm. At mean change analysis, C30 scores were prevalently worse in the NPBC than PBC arm, statistical significance being attained for emotional functioning, global health status/QoL, fatigue, and dyspnoea (effect sizes ranging from 0.30 to 0.51). Conversely, as for OV28 scale, the other chemotherapy side-effects item was significantly worse with PBC at three and six cycles, with a larger effect size (0.70 and 0.54, respectively). At best response analysis, improvement of emotional functioning and pain and worsening of peripheral neuropathy and other chemotherapy side-effects were significantly more frequent in the PBC arm. Progression-free survival (median 9 versus 5months, P=0.001) and objective response rate (51.6% versus 19.4%, P=0.0001) were significantly better with PBC. Allergy, blood cell count, alopecia, nausea, musculoskeletal, and neurological side-effects were more frequent and severe with PBC; hand–foot skin reaction, rash/desquamation, mucositis, and vascular events were more frequent with NPBC.
MITO-8 QoL analysis shows that deterioration of some functioning and symptom scales is lower with PBC, with improvement of emotional functioning and pain, despite worsening of toxicity-related items.

Lung infections caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa pose a serious threat to patients suffering from, among others, cystic fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or bronchiectasis, often ...leading to life-threatening complications. The establishment of a chronic infection is substantially related to communication between bacteria via quorum-sensing networks. In this study, we aimed to assess the role of quorum-sensing signaling molecules of the Pseudomonas quinolone signal (PQS) and to investigate the viscoelastic properties of lung tissue homogenates of PA-infected mice in a prolonged acute murine infection model. Therefore, a murine infection model was successfully established via intra-tracheal infection with alginate-supplemented Pseudomonas aeruginosa NH57388A. Rheological properties of lung homogenates were analyzed with multiple particle tracking (MPT) and quorum-sensing molecules were quantified with LC-MS/MS. Statistical analysis of bacterial load and quorum-sensing molecules showed a strong correlation between these biomarkers in infected lungs. This was accompanied by noticeable changes in the consistency of lung homogenates with increasing infection severity. Furthermore, viscoelastic properties of the lung homogenates strongly correlated with bacterial load and quorum sensing molecules. Considering the strong correlation between the viscoelasticity of lung homogenates and the aforementioned biomarkers, the viscoelastic properties of infected lungs might serve as reliable new biomarker for the evaluation of the severity of P. aeruginosa infections in murine models.

•Nanocrystal suspension of diclofenac increases its dermal bioavailability.•Nanosized diclofenac maintains the same polymorphic form of the bulk drug.•Transcutol increases particle ...size and reduce diclofenac nanosuspensions solubility.•Transcutol has no positive effects on diclofenac nanosuspension skin penetration.
The poor ability of many drugs to cross skin layers is the main limiting factor for the exploitation of the transdermal route for drug delivery. As a consequence, several approaches have been proposed to overcome the skin barrier, such as the inclusion of penetration enhancers in the topically applied drug solutions and emulsions. In this work, the penetration enhancer diethylene glycol monoethyl ether was included in novel diclofenac acid nanocrystal formulations, developed using the wet media milling technique and Poloxamer 188 as stabilizer.
The nanosuspensions were characterized by different techniques such as scanning electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray powder diffractometry, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and photon correlation spectroscopy. The influence of diethylene glycol monoethyl ether on (trans)dermal delivery of diclofenac nanosuspensions was evaluated by in vitro studies using Franz diffusion cells and pig skin.
demonstrated that the presence of diethylene glycol monoethyl ether influences the Poloxamer 188 ability to stabilize the nanocrystals during the milling process, leading to larger particles as compared to penetration enhancer-free nanosuspensions. As previously reported, the in vitro permeation studies indicate the nanosizing as a key factor in the dermal penetration of topically applied diclofenac. Surprisingly enough, the inclusion of increasing amounts of the penetration enhancer in the formulation decreased the diclofenac accumulation in the stratum corneum, while showing no significant effect on the drug delivered to the epidermis. Overall, the present results exclude a synergistic effect of the nanosizing approach and the addition of diethylene glycol monoethyl ether in regard to the skin penetration of diclofenac applied as a nanosuspension.
