Objectives
Oral health problems are a global concern particularly among underprivileged groups. This study aimed to use TTM model to assess the flossing behaviour and its determinants among students ...in a suburb area and compare the flossing behaviour between boys and girls using TTM.
Methods
Cluster sampling was employed to recruit 653 high school students from eight schools in Tehran suburban area, Iran. Two self‐administrated questionnaires: (i) stage of change questionnaire and (ii) TTM constructs questionnaire including demographic features, decisional balance (perceived benefits and barriers), self‐efficacy and process of change were used to assess the flossing behaviour and its psychological determinants. The statistical analysis of the data included Kruskal–Wallis test, t‐test, anova, Spearman correlation and binary logistic regression using SPSS ver15 software.
Results
In this study, 301 (46.1%) and 352 (53.9%) of participants were women and men, respectively. Nearly half of the students (51.4%) were in precontemplation stage with the rest distributed among the other stages of flossing behaviour change. There was no statistically significant difference between genders regarding the stages of change (P < 0.05). Flossing behaviour is related to TTM constructs such as self‐efficacy, perceived benefits, low perceived barriers and process of changes.
Conclusion
According to the results of this study, TTM is useful in determining the stages of interdental cleaning behaviour among students. However, further interventional researches are suggested to support the potential for eventual use of the TTM as a framework for understanding the determinants of interdental cleaning behaviour.
Background and Objectives: Nowadays 60% of deaths and 47% of diseases load worldwide caused by chronic diseases. Considering the different results of the conducted studies, the current study was ...performed to review the effect of life style educational intervention on improving cardiovascular risk factors. Methods: In this review, English and Persian databases were investigated. All types of studies were included. There was no time limit. The articles in any other languages but English (except for Persian), and also abstracts presented in international congresses and meetings were excluded. Other studies were included if they had an acceptable JADAD score. Results: During the primary search, 194 articles were found which through investigations 43 articles were finally included. The articles were published from 1989 to 2013. There were 3 domestic papers. Only two articles (4.65%) did not show any improvement in the risk factors while the others suggested significant improvements in the risk factors following educational intervention. Conclusion: Considering the general findings of the reviewed articles, it seems that the majority of the articles confirmed the effect of lifestyle education on cardiovascular risk factors- blood cholesterol, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, and cigarette smoking along with knowledge and attitude in high risk patients. The finding shows the necessity of “lifestyle” educational intervention in patients at risk for cardiovascular events.

This interventional study (quasi-experimental) was ...performed on 45 female students aged 15-16 years old who resided in a town near Tehran. The females participated in a threeweek educational programme based on the Health Belief Model. The data collection instrument was a validated and reliable questionnaire in five sections: demographics, knowledge, Health Belief Model constructs, physical activity and consumption of foods containing calcium. The mean scores of students' knowledge were significantly different before and after the educational intervention (P < 0.05). The mean scores of some Health Belief Model structures changed significantly after the intervention (P < 0.05). Also post-intervention, physical activity increased (P = 0.041) but calcium intake did not. The use of an educational intervention on osteoporosis seems to improve knowledge and health beliefs and may positively impact physical activity-related behaviour.

Objective(s): We evaluated the effect of the timing of admission in labor on the occurrence of obstetrical complications.Methods: The study involved a comparison between 460 low-risk nulliparous ...women who were admitted on labor unit in latent phase with 329 parturients admitted in the active phase with singleton pregnancy, intact membranes, and low risk as determined by their physicians according to the protocols of prenatal care.Results: There were more cesarean deliveries in the latent phase than in the active phase (64/5% vs24/3% P<0/0001) .The main reasons for cesarean delivery in the latent phase and active phase were dystocia and fetal distress. The rate of dystocia in the latent phase was greater than in the active phase. (32/6 % vs 24/3 % P=0/0048). The oxytocin dose was greater in the latent phase than in the active phase (1/1+_ 0/7 vs 0/18+-0/1).Conclusion: Our results show that more cesarean operations are performed in women admitted during the latent phase of labor.
