A depth-resolved X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) technique has been developed in the soft X-ray region by combining a multi-anode microchannel plate detector with polarization switching ...between right and left circular polarizations. A simultaneous measurement for 30-channel anodes has been achieved with a continuous data acquisition rate of 1 kHz, which is fast enough for 10 Hz polarization switching. This enables us to realize the layer-resolved XMCD analysis with a high signal-to-noise ratio.
The Tokai-to-Kamioka (T2K) neutrino experiment measures neutrino oscillations by using an almost pure muon neutrino beam produced at the J-PARC accelerator facility. The T2K muon monitor was ...installed to measure the direction and stability of the muon beam which is produced in conjunction with the muon neutrino beam. The systematic error in the muon beam direction measurement was estimated, using data and MC simulation, to be 0.28 mrad. During beam operation, the proton beam has been controlled using measurements from the muon monitor and the direction of the neutrino beam has been tuned to within 0.3 mrad with respect to the designed beam-axis. In order to understand the muon beam properties, measurement of the absolute muon yield at the muon monitor was conducted with an emulsion detector. The number of muon tracks was measured to be
$(4.06\pm 0.05\pm 0.10)\times 10^4$

normalized with

protons on target with 250 kA horn operation. The result is in agreement with the prediction, which is corrected based on hadron production data.
DAQ-Middleware is a framework for the DAQ system which is based on RT-Middleware (Robot Technology Middleware) and dedicated to making DAQ systems. DAQ-Middleware has come into use as a one of the ...DAQ system framework for the next generation Particle Physics experiment at KEK in recent years. DAQ-Middleware comprises DAQ-Components with all necessary basic functions of the DAQ and is easily extensible. So, using DAQ-Middleware, you are able to construct easily your own DAQ system by combining these components. As an example, we have developed a DAQ system for a CC/NET 1 using DAQ-Middleware by the addition of GUI part and CAMAC readout part. The CC/NET, the CAMAC controller was developed to accomplish high speed read-out of CAMAC data. The basic design concept of CC/NET is to realize data taking through networks. So, it is consistent with the DAQ-Middleware concept. We show how it is convenient to use DAQ-Middleware.

We report on the progress and status of DAQ-Middleware, a software framework for a distributed data acquisition system. We made improvements in DAQ-Middleware and released package (version 1.0.0) in ...August 2010. We describe here its improvements in performance and the component development method we used. We also report on the current status of DAQ-Middleware for use at the Material and Life Science Experimental Facility (MLF) of the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC).
The J-PARC facility, which will be ready in 2008, is being constructed to perform a number of experiments including nuclear physics, kaon decays and neutrino oscillation. The expected data ...acquisition rate ranges from 500 Hz to 10 kHz, which is significantly higher than those used in the existing small experiments at KEK. We have developed a new data acquisition system that can be used in a wide range of experiments at J-PARC. The system consists of a KEK-VME crate, a readout platform module and peripheral modules. The readout platform module is highly modularized, having four slots to install daughter cards for digitization and three PCI mezzanine card (PMC) slots for on-board data processing and other purposes. The performance of the platform module and a model setup of the data acquisition system are reported
In order to explore new physics in B-meson decays we plan to upgrade the KEK B-factory to a luminosity of 5/spl times/10/sup 35/ cm/sup -2/ s/sup -1/. In parallel we are developing a new pipelined ...data acquisition system for the Belle detector to cope with higher trigger rates of up to 30 kHz and severe background conditions. In order to reduce development and maintenance costs, we have adopted a modular design for these new readout electronics. The chosen architecture consists of a common readout platform, upon which are mounted subdetector specific parts, customized to meet the readout requirements of each sub detector component. As an example of this new architecture, we present in this paper the design of drift chamber electronics. The drift chamber readout utilizes the AMT-3 time-to-digital converter chip, originally developed for the ATLAS experiment, which satisfies the performance requirement for current and future Belle drift chamber readout. A data transfer performance test with emulation modules, mounted on the common platform, shows that the new readout electronics works well at a more than 30 kHz input trigger rate.

DAQ-Middleware is a software framework of network-distributed DAQ system based on Robot Technology Middleware, which is an international standard of Object Management Group (OMG) in Robotics and its ...implementation was developed by AIST. DAQ-Component is a software unit of DAQ-Middleware. Basic components have been already developed. For examples, Gatherer is a readout component, Logger is a data logging component, Monitor is an analysis component and Dispatcher, which is connected to Gatherer as input of data path and to Logger/Monitor as output of data path. DAQ operator is a special component, which controls those components by using the control/status path. The control/status path and data path as well as XML-based system configuration and XML/HTTP-based system interface are well defined in DAQ-Middleware framework. DAQ-Middleware was adopted by experiments at J-PARC while the commissioning at the first beam had been successfully carried out. The functionality of DAQ-Middleware and the status of DAQ-Middleware at J-PARC are presented.

As a charged particle tracking device, CCD pixel sensors are expected to have very high performance because of the excellent spatial resolution and the very thin material thickness of the sensitive ...layer. We have been executing R&D of a CCD vertex detector for Global Linear Collider (GLC) project. In this article we mainly present recent results of radiation damage tests of CCDs irradiated with low-energy

A magnetic horn system to be operated at a pulsed current of 320kA and to survive high-power proton beam operation at 750kW was developed for the T2K experiment. The first set of T2K magnetic horns ...was operated for over 12 million pulses during the four years of operation from 2010 to 2013, under a maximum beam power of 230kW, and 6.63×1020 protons were exposed to the production target. No significant damage was observed throughout this period. This successful operation of the T2K magnetic horns led to the discovery of the νμ→νe oscillation phenomenon in 2013 by the T2K experiment. In this paper, details of the design, construction, and operation experience of the T2K magnetic horns are described.
