Abstract
A new 1.3 GHz solid-state high-power RF amplifier (SSA) has been built for the Lighthouse project in close cooperation between Cryoelectra and RI Research Instruments. The amplifier was ...developed by Cryoelectra as a scalable compact system with an RF-power density of 40kW/m
2
. Its industrial design is very reliable and easy to maintain. The SSA delivers a continuous RF output power of more than 130 kW with a wall-plug efficiency of 63% and with very low phase noise. The power is generated by 40 patented RF amplifier modules each containing 8 GaN transistor units. Their outputs are combined by a coaxial 8-way combiner in the center of the module. Each module is connected to the 4x9-way cable-free waveguide combiner network and can be exchanged in the event of fault within minutes thanks to quick connectors. A sophisticated control system continuously monitors the state of all components for reliable machine and personnel protection.
Despite all the challenges encountered during development and production, the SSA was built and handed over to the client in the shortest possible time. It passed the acceptance test on site exceptionally well.
The LHCb Outer Tracker is a gaseous detector covering an area of 5 x 6 m super(2) with 12 double layers of straw tubes. The detector with its services are described together with the commissioning ...and calibration procedures. Based on data of the first LHC running period from 2010 to 2012, the performance of the readout electronics and the single hit resolution and efficiency are presented. The efficiency to detect a hit in the central half of the straw is estimated to be 99.2%, and the position resolution is determined to be approximately 200 mu m. The Outer Tracker received a dose in the hottest region corresponding to 0.12 C/cm, and no signs of gain deterioration or other ageing effects are observed.
The LHCb experiment at CERN conditions monitor (BCM) consisting of 16 dia an active surface of 8mm × 8mm each, surrounding the beam pipe, in order to prevent the experiment from exposure to a ...possibly harmful LHC beam. It is based on a measurement of the current through these solid state detectors with an intergration time of 40 μs, so it provides the fastest input of LHCb to the beam interlock system. The current status of the commissioning is described in this work.

The LHCb experiment at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) is dedicated to precision measurements of CP violation and rare decays of B hadrons. Its most sensitive components are ...protected by means of a Beam Conditions Monitor (BCM), based on polycrystalline CVD diamond sensors. Its configuration, operation and decision logics to issue or remove the beam permit signal for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) are described in this paper.
