Azimuthal asymmetries in exclusive electroproduction of a real photon from a longitudinally polarized deuterium target are measured with respect to target polarization alone and with respect to ...target polarization combined with beam helicity and/or beam charge. The asymmetries appear in the distribution of the real photons in the azimuthal angle
ϕ around the virtual photon direction, relative to the lepton scattering plane. The asymmetries arise from the deeply virtual Compton scattering process and its interference with the Bethe–Heitler process. The results for the beam-charge and beam-helicity asymmetries from a tensor polarized deuterium target with vanishing vector polarization are shown to be compatible with those from an unpolarized deuterium target, which is expected for incoherent scattering dominant at larger momentum transfer. Furthermore, the results for the single target-spin asymmetry and for the double-spin asymmetry are found to be compatible with the corresponding asymmetries previously measured on a hydrogen target. For coherent scattering on the deuteron at small momentum transfer to the target, these findings imply that the tensor contribution to the cross section is small. Furthermore, the tensor asymmetry is found to be compatible with zero.

The amplitudes of five azimuthal modulations of the single-spin asymmetry of the cross section with respect to the transverse proton polarization are measured. They are determined in the entire kinematic region as well as for two bins in photon virtuality and momentum transfer to the nucleon. Also, a separation of asymmetry amplitudes into longitudinal and transverse components is done. These results are compared to a phenomenological model that includes the pion pole contribution. The exclusive electroproduction of π+ mesons was studied with the HERMES spectrometer at the DESY laboratory by scattering 27.6 GeV positron and electron beams off an internal hydrogen gas target. ...The virtual-photon cross sections were measured as a function of the Mandelstam variable t and the squared four momentum −Q2 of the exchanged virtual photon. A model calculation based on Generalized Parton Distributions is in fair agreement with the data at low values of |t| if power corrections are included. A model calculation based on the Regge formalism gives a good description of the magnitude and the t and Q2 dependences of the cross section.

Hadron multiplicities in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering were measured on neon, krypton, and xenon targets relative to deuterium at an electron(positron)-beam energy of 27.6GeV at HERMES. ...These ratios were determined as a function of the virtual-photon energy

and the transverse hadron momentum with respect to the virtual-photon direction p

. Dependences were analysed separately for positively and negatively charged pions and kaons as well as protons and antiprotons in a two-dimensional representation. Compared to the one-dimensional dependences, some new features were observed. In particular, when
z
> 0.4 positive kaons do not show the strong monotonic rise of the multiplicity ratio with
as exhibited by pions and negative kaons. Protons were found to behave very differently from the other hadrons.
Results are reported on the study of surface engineering of diamond microtips for improved field electron emission. Two-dimensional (2D) arrays of diamond pyramids were prepared using a molding ...technique. As-grown diamond pyramids of 3 and 9 μm in size with sharp apexes were insulating and showed a relatively poor field electron emission. Several ways are examined to provide an electrical conductivity of diamond in order to supply electrons for the emission: diamond boron doping, partial graphitization/amorphization by nitrogen ion implantation and/or high temperature annealing, formation of built-in conductive metal layers. A perceptible improvement of surface electrical conductivity and reduction of field electron emission thresholds down to 10 V/μm was observed. For explanation of the results it was enough to take into account only the geometric field enhancement on pyramids apexes.
The DD-reaction is investigated and the heat emission off the targets during their irradiation with ion beams is studied at the HELIS ion accelerator at LPI. The heat emission is observed to be ...significantly higher in the case of irradiation of the Ti/TiO2:Dx-targets by a D+ beam, as compared to the H+ and Ne+ beams. Furthermore, it depends on the concentration of deuterium in the target and current density of the deuteron beam.
