We report evidence for a narrow structure, X(5568), in the decay sequence X(5568) -> B-s(0)pi(+/-), B-s(0) -> J/psi phi, J/psi -> mu(+)mu(-), phi -> K+K-. This is evidence for the first ...instance of a hadronic state with valence quarks of four different flavors. The mass and natural width of this state are measured to be m = 5567.8 +/- 2.9(stat)(-1.9)(+0.9) (syst) MeV/c(2) and Gamma = 21.9 +/- 6.4(stat)(-2.5)(+5.0) (syst) MeV/c(2). If the decay is X(5568) -> B-s*pi(+/-). B-s(0)gamma pi(+/-) with an unseen gamma, m(X(5568)) will be shifted up by m(B-s*) - m(B-s(0)) similar to 49 MeV/c(2). This measurement is based on 10.4 fb(-1) of p (p) over bar collision data at root s = 1.96 TeV collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron collider.
We describe an analysis comparing the p (p) over bar elastic cross section as measured by the D0 Collaboration at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV to that in pp collisions as measured by the TOTEM ...Collaboration at 2.76, 7, 8, and 13 TeVusing a model-independent approach. The TOTEM cross sections, extrapolated to a center-of-mass energy of root s = 1.96 TeV, are compared with the D0 measurement in the region of the diffractive minimum and the second maximum of the pp cross section. The two data sets disagree at the 3.4s level and thus provide evidence for the t-channel exchange of a colorless, C-odd gluonic compound, also known as the odderon. We combine these results with a TOTEM analysis of the same C-odd exchange based on the total cross section and the ratio of the real to imaginary parts of the forward elastic strong interaction scattering amplitude in pp scattering for which the significance is between 3.4s and 4.6s. The combined significance is larger than 5 sigma and is interpreted as the first observation of the exchange of a colorless, C-odd gluonic compound.
We present the observation of doubly-produced $J/\psi$ mesons with the D0 detector at Fermilab in $p\bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV. The production cross section for both singly and ...doubly-produced $J/\psi$ mesons is measured using a sample with an integrated luminosity of 8.1~fb$^{-1}$. For the first time, the double $J/\psi$ production cross section is separated into contributions due to single and double parton scatterings. Using these measurements, we determine the effective cross section \sigteff, a parameter characterizing an effective spatial area of the parton-parton interactions and related to the parton spatial density inside the nucleon.
We present evidence for the exotic charged charmoniumlike state Zc±(3900) decaying to J/ψπ± in semi-inclusive weak decays of b-flavored hadrons. The signal is correlated with a parent J/ψπ+π− system ...in the invariant-mass range 4.2–4.7 GeV that would include the exotic structure Y(4260). The study is based on 10.4 fb−1 of pp¯ collision data collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron collider.
Here, the inclusive cross section of top quark-antiquark pairs produced in $p\bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV is measured in the lepton+jets and dilepton decay channels. The data sample ...corresponds to 9.7 fb-1 of integrated luminosity recorded with the D0 detector during Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. Employing multivariate analysis techniques we measure the cross section in the two decay channels and we perform a combined cross section measurement. For a top quark mass of 172.5 GeV, we measure a combined inclusive top quark-antiquark pair production cross section of σ$t\bar{t}$=7.26±0.13(stat)$+0.57\atop{-0.50}$(syst) pb which is consistent with standard model predictions. We also perform a likelihood fit to the measured and predicted top quark mass dependence of the inclusive cross section, which yields a measurement of the pole mass of the top quark. The extracted value is mt=172.8±1.1(theo)$+3.3\atop{-3.1}$(exp) GeV.
We present a study of the X-+/-(5568) using semileptonic decays of the B-s(0) meson using the full run II integrated luminosity of 10.4 fb(-1) in proton-antiproton collisions at a center of mass ...energy of 1.96 TeV collected with the DO detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We report evidence for a narrow structure, X-+/-(5568), in the decay sequence X-+/-(5568) -> B-s(0) pi(+/-) where B-s(0)-> mu(-/+) (DsX)-X-+/-, D-s(+/-)-> phi pi(+/-)which is consistent with the previous measurement by the DO Collaboration in the hadronic decay mode, X-+/-(5568) -> B-s(0)pi(+/-) where B-s(0 )-> J/psi phi. The mass and width of this state are measured using a combined fit of the hadronic and semileptonic data, yielding m = 5566.9(-3.1)(+3.2)(stat)(-1.2)(+0.6)(syst) MeV/c(2), Gamma = 18.6(-6.1)(+7.9)(stat)(-3.8)(+3.5) (syst) McV/c(2) with a significance of 6.7 sigma.
A cosmic ray measurement facility has been set up at Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich (LMU) and is used at present to commission and calibrate Monitored Drift Tube (MDT) chambers for the muon ...spectrometer of the ATLAS experiment. Each of these chambers-produced in collaboration with the Max-Planck-Institut fuumlr Physik and the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna-consists of 432 drift tubes with a diameter of 3 cm, which are arranged in 2times3 layers, and measures 3.8 mtimes2.2 mtimes0.5 m. At the LMU site, the MDT chambers are completed, equipped with their final front-end electronics and taken into operation for the first time. The gas leak rate of the chamber is determined and its high voltage stability is tested. The response of all drift tubes and its homogeneity across the chamber is measured in the Cosmic Ray Facility. Two MDT chambers which were precisely mapped with an X-Ray tomograph provide reference tracking for the enclosed third chamber which is to be calibrated. The sense wire positions are determined from a comparison of the drift time measurements with the reference tracks. The geometry of the tested chamber-the grid constants of the drift tubes in a layer, the distances and tilt angles of the layers-can then be derived from these positions. Alignment systems are used to monitor chamber movements at the micrometer level. In the ongoing series commissioning, a rate of one chamber per week has been achieved. The parameters describing the geometry of the MDT chambers are determined with a precision in the 10 mum range. The measurements with cosmic muons complement the chamber surveys performed during construction and will provide an important input for the calibration of the entire ATLAS muon spectrometer
