Objective
This study aimed to examine the stressors and contextual factors that affect the quality of life (QoL) of caregivers of advanced cancer patients and to address their caregiving experiences.

The study had an embedded mixed‐methods design and was conducted in the medical oncology unit of a training and research hospital in Turkey. In the quantitative phase, 125 patients with advanced cancer and their family caregivers were included. In the qualitative phase, 21 family caregivers were included. The analysis of quantitative data was carried out using SPSS 25.0 statistical program, and qualitative data were carried out using Collaizi's seven‐step descriptive analysis approach. QoL was determined as the dependent variable and evaluated with Caregiver QoL Index‐Cancer (CQOLC).
Results
The symptoms, care dependency of patients, and preparedness to the care of caregivers showed a direct impact on the CQOLC. Income level, employment status, and daily caregiving hours demonstrated a direct effect on the CQOLC. Four themes emerged from the interviews: Understanding the dynamics of the caregiving process, losing control of life during the caregiving process, limitation of socio‐economic freedom in the caregiving process, and the effort to hold on to life in the caregiving process.
Conclusion
The cancer family caregiving experience model is a useful model for evaluating the QoL of caregivers from a multidimensional perspective. Health care professionals should not forget that the QoL of family caregivers should be evaluated in multiple ways, and education programmes for family members should be structured.
We aimed to establish a laboratory prognostic index (LPI) in advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients based on hematologic and biochemical parameters and to analyze the predictive value ...of LPI on NSCLC survival.
The study retrospectively reviewed 462 patients with advanced NSCLC diagnosed between 2000 and 2010 in a single institution. We developed an LPI that included serum levels of white blood cells (WBC), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), albumin, calcium, and alkaline phosphatase (ALP), based on the results of a Cox regression analysis. The patients were classified into 3 LPI groups as follows: LPI 0: normal; LPI 1: one abnormal laboratory finding; and LPI 2: at least 2 abnormal laboratory findings.
The median follow up period was 44 months; the median overall survival (OS) and median progression-free survival (PFS) were 11 and 6 months, respectively. A multivariate analysis revealed that the following could be used as independent prognostic factors: an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status score (ECOG PS) ≥2, a high LDH level, serum albumin <3 g/dL, serum calcium>10.5 g/dL, number of metastases>2, presence of liver metastases, malignant pleural effusion, or receiving chemotherapy ≥4 cycles. The 1-year OS rates according to LPI 0, LPI 1, and LPI 2 were 54%, 34%, and 17% (p<0.001), respectively and 6-month PFS rates were 44%, 27%, and 15% (p<0.001), respectively. The LPI was a significant predictor for OS (Hazard Ratio (HR): 1.41; 1.05-1.88, p<0.001) and PFS (HR: 1.48; 1.14-1.93, p<0.001).
An LPI is an inexpensive, easily accessible and independent prognostic index for advanced NSCLC and may be helpful in making individualized treatment plans and predicting survival rates when combined with clinical parameters.

Introduction
Cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 inhibitors are new generation drugs that have recently been used in patients with hormone receptor-positive and human epidermal growth factor receptor ...2-negativenegative metastatic breast cancer. Recent studies have shown that the use of cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 inhibitors significantly improves the outcomes of these patients. The most common side effects of cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 inhibitors are hematological toxicity, gastrointestinal side effects, and fatigue. We aimed to present a case of metastatic breast cancer who was treated with ribociclib and developed vitiligo-like lesions after treatment.
Case report
A 56-year-old female patient was diagnosed with locally advanced hormone receptor (+)/human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (−) breast cancer in May 2000. She was followed up with hormonal therapy after adjuvant chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The patient progressed with lung metastases in 2012. Ribociclib, anastrozole, and leuprolide acetate were started in November 2021 after multiple-line chemotherapy. After six cycles of ribociclib, vitiligo-like lesions that developed in the last 1 month were detected on the upper extremities, both hands, neck, chest, and upper back.
Management and outcome
The patient was referred to dermatology. Topical immunosuppressive therapy and oral corticosteroids were recommended. At the first and third-month follow-up examinations, vitiligo-like lesions were observed to persist.
Discussion
Vitiligo-like lesions are not a life-threatening side effect. However, it significantly affects the quality of life and disrupts the patient's compliance with treatment. Cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 inhibitors can inhibit cell division or cause premature cell death by acting on the melanocyte cell cycle.

This study is a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted with cancer patients who were interviewed via telemedicine from a tertiary ...care comprehensive oncology center.
A total of 421 patients were included in the study and 118 of them (28.0%) were >65 years old. Communication was provided most frequently by voice call (n = 213; 50.5%). The majority of the patients contacted by telemedicine had breast cancer (n = 270; 64.1%). For 135 patients (32.1%) no further examination or intervention was required and the previously planned follow-up visit was postponed by the clinician.
This study showed that telemedicine could open a new era for medical oncology specialists.
Osteosarcomas with lung metastases are rather heterogenous group. We aimed to evaluate the clinicopathological characteristics and outcomes of osteosarcoma patients with lung metastases and to ...compare the synchronous and metachronous lung metastatic groups. A total of 93 adolescent and adult patients with lung metastatic osteosarcoma, from March 1995 to July 2011, in a single center, were included. Sixty-five patients (69.9%) were male. The median age was 19 years (range, 14-74). Thirty-nine patients (41.9%) had synchronous lung metastases (Group A) and 54 patients (58.1%) had metachronous lung metastases (Group B). The 5-year and 10-year post-lung metastases overall survival (PLM-OS) was 17% and 15%, respectively. In multivariate analysis for PLM-OS, time to lung metastases (p = 0.010), number of metastatic pulmonary nodules (p = 0.020), presence of pulmonary metastasectomy (p = 0.007) and presence of chemotherapy for lung metastases (p< 0.001) were found to be independent prognostic factors. The median PLM-OS of Group A and Group B was 16 months and 9 months, respectively. In Group B, the median PLM-OS of the patients who developed lung metastases within 12 months was 6 months, whereas that of the patients who developed lung metastases later was 16 months. Time to lung metastases, number and laterality of metastatic pulmonary nodules, chemotherapy for lung metastatic disease and pulmonary metastasectomy were independent prognostic factors for patients with lung metastatic osteosarcoma. The best PLM-OS was in the subgroup of patients treated both surgery and chemotherapy. The prognosis of the patients who developed lung metastases within 12 months after diagnosis was worst.

Purpose

Methods
This study included oncology patients who were hospitalized at two oncology centers between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2019 for hyponatremia (sodium levels < 135 mEq/L) and who received tolvaptan plus supportive treatment (
n
= 22) or supportive treatment only (
n
= 42).
Results
The median age of all the patients was 59 years (range 26–85) and 64.1% of the patients were male. There was no statistically significant difference between patients in the tolvaptan plus supportive treatment (TpST) group and the supportive treatment only (ST) group in terms of gender and age (
p
> 0.05). In the TpST group, recovery days of the hyponatremia after treatment and the length of hospital stay was shorter and hyponatremia symptoms and hospital complications were less frequent compared to the ST group (
p
< 0.05). There was no significant difference between the TpST group and the ST group in terms of overall survival (OS). OS was shorter in men who were non-responders to hyponatremia treatment and had recurrent hyponatremia. Multivariable analysis showed that normal sodium levels after treatment decreased the risk of death.
Conclusion
In the treatment of hyponatremia in cancer patients, TpST was found to have more positive effects on blood sodium levels, length of hospital stay, hospital complications, and hyponatremia symptoms compared to ST. A decreased risk of death was observed in patients with normal sodium levels after treatment.
Combination of gemcitabine and nab-paclitaxel has superior clinical efficacy than gemcitabine alone. Nevertheless, health-related quality of life. (QoL) associated with this combination therapy when ...administered at first-line in advanced pancreatic adenocarcinoma is unknown.
A total of 125 patients were randomized to combination therapy (1000 mg/m2 gemcitabine + 125 mg/m2 nab-paclitaxel) and single-agent gemcitabine (1000 mg/m2) arms to take treatment weekly for 7 of 8 weeks, and following 3 of 4 weeks, until progression or severe toxicity. Primary endpoints were three-months of definitive deterioration free percent of patients, and QoL.
Overall QoL analyses showed that 34 and 58.3% of cases in gemcitabine and gemcitabine+nab-P arms had no deterioration in 3rd month QoL scores (p = 0.018). These proportions were 27.3 and 36.6% in 6
month assessments, respectively (p = 0.357). Median overall survivals in combination and single-agent arms were 9.92 months and 5.95 months, respectively (HR: 0.64, 95% CI: 0.42-0.86, p = 0.038). Median progression free survivals in these treatment arms were 6.28 and 3.22 months, respectively (HR: 0.58, 95% CI: 0.39-0.87, p = 0.008). Median time-to-deterioration were 5.36 vs 3.68 months, and objective response rates were 37.1% vs 23.7% (p = 0.009), respectively in combination and single-agent arms.
Combination therapy with gemcitabine + nab-paclitaxel had better overall and progression-free survival than gemcitabine alone. Also, combination therapy showed increased response rate without toxicity or deteriorated QoL. Combination treatment with gemcitabine and nab-paclitaxel may provide significant benefit for advanced pancreatic cancer.

To evaluate the incidence, clinicopathological characteristics, treatment outcomes, prognostic factors, and survival of gastric cancer patients with bone metastases.
Of 4,617 gastric cancer patients ...who were treated between 2001 and 2013, 176 patients with bone metastases were analyzed.
The incidence of bone metastasis was 3.8%. The most common histopathological subtype was adenocarcinoma (79%) with poor differentiation (60.8%). The median interval from the diagnosis to bone metastasis was 11 months. The median survival time after bone metastasis was 5.4 months. Factors that were associated with longer median survival times included the following: isolated bone metastasis (P=0.004), well-differentiated tumors (P=0.002), palliative chemotherapy (P=0.003), zoledronic acid treatment (P<0.001), no smoking history (P=0.007), and no metastatic gastric cancer at the time of diagnosis (P=0.01). On the other hand, high levels of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) (hazard ratio HR: 1.86; P=0.015), carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) (HR: 2.04; P=0.002), and carbohydrate antigen (CA) 19-9 (HR: 2.94; P<0.001) were associated with shorter survival times. In multivariate analysis, receiving zoledronic acid (P<0.001) and performance status (P=0.013) were independent prognostic factors.
Smoking history, poor performance status, poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma, and high levels of LDH, CEA, and CA 19-9 were shown to be poor prognostic factors, while receiving chemotherapy and zoledronic acid were associated with prolonged survival in gastric cancer patients with bone metastases.
