A capacidade das Instituições de Ensino Superior (IES) adotarem políticas e dinâmicas promotoras de interculturalidade para a inclusão dos estudantes apresenta-se como um desafio face aos relatos de ...vivências de exclusão académica dos participantes deste estudo. Foi objetivo deste estudo compreender a experiência vivida pelos participantes, na academia, como fenómeno de inclusão/exclusão. Relativamente aos métodos, trata-se de um estudo qualitativo, fenomenológico-interpretativo, com recurso à entrevista fenomenológica. Participaram trinta e um elementos da comunidade académica (estudantes, docentes e não docentes) de uma IES de Portugal, de abril a julho de 2019. A análise dos dados emergentes foi qualitativa e realizada com ajuda do software Nvivo12. Este estudo insere-se num projeto mais amplo intitulado “Práticas inclusivas no Ensino Superior: O desafio de construir comunidade”, autorizado pela Comissão de Ética da Instituição onde se realizou o estudo. Quanto aos Resultados, das categorias emergentes destacamos a Experiência e significado de inclusão, com destaque para a “Indiscriminação”, “Igualdade e equidade” e “Integração na comunidade”; as Barreiras à inclusão na instituição, com ênfase nas “Barreiras Arquitetónicas”, na “Desarticulação hierárquica institucional, “dificuldades linguísticas” e, ainda, a categoria Sentimentos vivenciados em experiências de exclusão, enfatizados pelos participantes, como a “desvalorização”, a “solidão” e a “tristeza”. Em conclusão, os participantes consideram que os principais desafios institucionais à inclusão e interculturalidade se centram no derrubar as barreiras arquitetónicas e linguísticas, de forma a que os edifícios tenham acessos adequados à mobilidade, que garantam a sua integração e minimizem sentimentos de desvalorização, solidão e tristeza.
To characterize the kidney alterations associated with renal mass reduction by two-dimensional ultrasound and assess the correlation of the ultrasonographic parameters with the histological and ...biochemical findings.
Rats were divided into two groups: sham-operated animals (n=13), and animals which underwent renal mass reduction (RMR) through 5/6 nephrectomy (n=14). Renal length, renal thickness, cortical thickness, medullary length and echogenicity of the kidneys were evaluated by ultrasonography at 3 and 6 months after the RMR.
Except for the renal length, the renal dimensions at 3 and 6 months were significantly higher in the RMR group when compared to the sham-operated group (p<0.05). Furthermore, the cortical and medullary echogenicity was significantly higher in the RMR group when compared to the sham-operated group (p<0.05). A significant correlation was observed between the plasma creatinine level and the renal length 3 months after RMR (r=-0.612, p=0.045).
These data support future application of ultrasonography for monitoring the progression of renal damage in chronic studies with the 5/6 nephrectomy model.

No entanto, após 25 anos, a construção de um Data Warehouse ainda é uma tarefa penosa, demora muito tempo, é cara e difícil de mudar após a sua conclusão.A automação de Data Warehouse aparece com a promessa de endereçar as limitações das abordagens tradicionais, transformando o desenvolvimento da data warehouse de um esforço prolongado em um esforço ágil, com ganhos de eficiência e eficácia. Será, a automação de Data Warehouse uma doçura ou travessura?Foi desenvolvido um estudo de caso de uma arquitetura de data warehousing usando uma ferramenta de automação, designada WhereScape. Foi também conduzido um questionário a organizações que utilizam ferramentas de automação de data warehouse, para entender sua motivação na adoção deste tipo de ferramentas.Com base nos resultados da pesquisa e no estudo de caso, a automação no processo de construção de data warehouses, é necessária para uma maior agilidade destes sistemas e uma solução a considerar na modernização destas arquiteturas, pois permitem obter resultados mais rapidamente, mantendo os custos controlados e reduzindo o risco. A automação de data warehouse pode bem vir a ser uma “doçura”.

In several predictive tasks the end-user attention is focused in certain regions of the domain of the target variable. As opposed to standard predictive tasks where all target variable values are ...equally important, in these particular tasks the domain has a non-uniform importance for the end-user. In many real world domains, such as financial, meteorological or medical, we can find tasks that fit into this non-standard setting. In effect, for most practical applications we observe that there is important domain knowledge that must be accounted for when solving the corresponding predictive task.In these tasks, the relevance of certain regions of the domain is associated to either high costs and/or severe consequences, or to important profits and/or benefits. Initially, the research community addressed these tasks through the development of the cost-sensitive learning theory which considers only the costs component. More recently, this theory evolved to the broader framework of utility-based mining. The utility-based learning setting allows the consideration of both costs and benefits that may derive from different domain information. Although more complex, the utility-based learning framework is also more intuitive from an end-user perspective and more thorough regarding the domain information representation.The first efforts for including costs and benefits into the learning procedure were concentrated in tasks with a nominal target variable (classification tasks). Still, with time, it became clear that this learning paradigm was also applicable to regression tasks, where the target variable is continuous. In this thesis we focus on the utility-based learning problem. The youth of this broader approach, specially regarding regression tasks, results in the existence of several open issues that we tackled. In particular, we identified and addressed the following main challenges: i) development of a unifying framework for utility-based learning; ii) development of learning methods for optimising utility in regression tasks; and iii) proposal of new preprocessing methods for addressing the problem of learning from imbalanced domains.The proposal of a unifying utility-based framework allows to better understand the characteristics of these tasks, while integrating both classification and regression problems. Moreover, using this framework we are also able to establish important connections between different predictive problems.The second challenge is related with the lack of methods to address utility-based regressionproblems. When dealing with utility-based learning if the utility information is not incorporated into the learning procedure we are only able to obtain sub-optimal models. To solve this problem we propose and evaluate new methods that allow to maximise the utility in regression. We show that these methods are effective for different utility settings.The third and final challenge is related with the particular sub-class of utility-based problems known as imbalanced domains. This is also a problem insufficiently studied in the context of regression tasks. We propose and evaluate several approaches to address this problem.As a practical outcome of this work, we provide UBL, an R package for utility-based learning that integrates approaches for classification and regression tasks. The UBL package includes the proposals presented in this thesis, as well as many other approaches developed for utilitybased classification, providing to the research community a tool for testing and comparing different alternative methods of addressing utility-based predictive tasks

Schwannoma is a tumor of the nervous system composed by Schwann cells. It can occur naturally in several tissues of the body in both humans and animals. Diaphragmatic hernia can be congenital or ...acquired and is defined as a protrusion of abdominal viscera into the thoracic cavity.
The animal was a female rat from an experiment of mammary tumor chemically induced. It was injected with N-methyl-N-nitrosourea (MNU) and died spontaneously at 22 weeks of age.
The animal had a diaphragmatic hernia and a hemorrhagic and multicystic mass in the liver herniated lobule. Microscopically the liver displayed a well circumscribed mass that was a tumor with hemorrhagic areas, necrosis and Antoni A and Antoni B patterns. It also displayed occasional positivity to vimentin and diffuse positivity to S-100 and NSE.
The tumor was a schwannoma with the origin in the Glisson's capsule.
This paper presents mobileWAY (mobile Where Are You), a system that enables caregivers of persons with dementia (PwD) to remotely display dynamic, customized and illustrated information on the home ...television of the PwD. In particular, caregivers can, through the use of a mobile device, provide information about their identity, their whereabouts and the time remaining until they return to the house of the PwD. When adequate, caregivers can also define an entertainment activity for the PwD. The development of mobileWAY followed an iterative and incremental user-centered design approach. Semi-structured interviews with nine informal and two professional caregivers furthered a literature review and a competitive analysis of the research projects around this scope. Building upon these, a low-fidelity prototype was created and iterated twice through usability testing with seven PwD and fourteen caregivers. Results show that PwD comprehend the displayed information and caregivers effectively use and recognize the usefulness of mobileWAY.
