•Epigenetic events have a great potential to provide outstanding information about the exposition of EDCs.•“The sixth base” (5-hmC) is an appealing epigenetic marker for environmental ...biosensors.•Post translational modifications has been measured via enzyme activity towards drug development and clinical diagnosis.•Personal health outcomes are the result of the interaction between the exposome and the individual genome.
The relationship between endocrine system disorders and health risks due to chemical environmental compounds has become a growing concern in recent years. Involuntary exposure to endocrine disruptors (EDCs) is associated with the worldwide increase of diseases such as cancer, obesity, diabetes, and neurocortical disorders. EDCs are compounds that target the nuclear hormonereceptors (NHR) leading to epigenetic changes. Consequently, the use of biosensing strategies based on epigenetic events have a great potential to provide outstanding information about the exposition of EDCs and their evaluation in human health. This review addresses the novel trends in biosensing EDCs evaluation based on DNA methylation assays associated with different human diseases.
•Amerindian ancestry has model the CTG distribution at DMPK gene of Mexican Mestizos.•Haplotype analysis supports the hypothesis of an ancestral DM1 mutation in Mexico.•Both European and Amerindian ...ancestry might have introduced the disease to Mexico.
Myotonic dystrophy type 1 is caused by expansion of a CTG trinucleotide repeat situated in the DMPK gene. Worldwide genetic studies suggest a single or limited number of mutational events cause the disease. However, distribution of CTG alleles and disease incidence varies among ethnicities. Due to the great ethnic diversity of the Mexican population, the present study was aimed at analyzing the impact of different lineages in shaping the CTG-repeat allelic distribution in the contemporary Mexican-Mestizo population as well as to shed light on the DM1 ancestral origin. Distribution of CTG-repeat alleles was similar among Mestizo and Amerindian subpopulations with (CTG)11–13 being the most frequent alleles in both groups, which implies that Mexican-Mestizo allelic distribution has been modeled by Amerindian ancestry. We diagnosed a relatively high number of cases, consistent with the high frequency of large-normal alleles found in Mexican subpopulations. Haplotype analysis using various polymorphic-markers in proximity to DMPK gene indicates that a single founder mutation originates myotonic dystrophy type 1 in Mexico; however, Y-STR haplogroups data and the presence of pre-mutated and large normal alleles in Amerindians support the hypothesis that both European and Amerindian ancestral chromosomes might have introduced the disease to the Mexican population, which was further disseminated through mestizaje.
NutriNet-Salud Mexico is a digital health information system, e-epidemiology instrument, online, open and free, to recording and analysis the determinants of dietary habits and nutritional status of ...the Mexican population, for the prevention of overweight, obesity and noncommunicable diseases for the period 2018-2028.
Describe the design, development and implementation of NutriNet-Salud Mexico from the French model NutriNet-Santé France 2008-2018.
NutriNet-Salud Mexico platform is the basis for the development of health information system for prospective cohort study, scheduled for a period of 10 years (2018-2028), with a dedicated website, and its development will enable to have multiple study populations within an initial set of five self-applicable questionnaires validated in Mexican population.
The information will enable to develop applied research, learn and monitor food contributions and nutritional status of the population, assess the impact of public health actions on feeding behavior and nutritional status, comparing populations between countries (Mexico, France, Belgium and Switzerland) and national institutes, universities and states.
NutriNet-Salud Mexico will provide information for assist in research and public action, especially to guide public policies on nutrition Mexico. The scientific elements will make appropriate nutritional recommendations to different populations and access to a representative nominal population sample with low-cost, in real-time, and with dual approach to e-epidemiology: cohort study to identify causality and cross-sectional studies (descriptive research, monitoring and evaluation).
We present the sensitivity of HAWC to Gamma Ray Bursts (GRBs). HAWC is a very high-energy gamma-ray observatory currently under construction in Mexico at an altitude of 4100 m. It will observe ...atmospheric air showers via the water Cherenkov method. HAWC will consist of 300 large water tanks instrumented with 4 photomultipliers each. HAWC has two data acquisition (DAQ) systems. The main DAQ system reads out coincident signals in the tanks and reconstructs the direction and energy of individual atmospheric showers. The scaler DAQ counts the hits in each photomultiplier tube (PMT) in the detector and searches for a statistical excess over the noise of all PMTs. We show that HAWC has a realistic opportunity to observe the high-energy power law components of GRBs that extend at least up to 30 GeV, as it has been observed by Fermi LAT. The two DAQ systems have an energy threshold that is low enough to observe events similar to GRB 090510 and GRB 090902b with the characteristics observed by Fermi LAT. HAWC will provide information about the high-energy spectra of GRBs which in turn could help to understanding about e-pair attenuation in GRB jets, extragalactic background light absorption, as well as establishing the highest energy to which GRBs accelerate particles.
