A search for neutrinoless double-β decay (0νββ) in Xe136 is performed with the full EXO-200 dataset using a deep neural network to discriminate between 0νββ and background events. Relative to ...previous analyses, the signal detection efficiency has been raised from 80.8% to 96.4±3.0%, and the energy resolution of the detector at the Q value of Xe136 0νββ has been improved from σ/E=1.23% to 1.15±0.02% with the upgraded detector. Accounting for the new data, the median 90% confidence level 0νββ half-life sensitivity for this analysis is 5.0×1025 yr with a total Xe136 exposure of 234.1 kg yr. No statistically significant evidence for 0νββ is observed, leading to a lower limit on the 0νββ half-life of 3.5×1025 yr at the 90% confidence level.
Results from a search for neutrinoless double-beta decay (0νββ) of ^{136}Xe are presented using the first year of data taken with the upgraded EXO-200 detector. Relative to previous searches by ...EXO-200, the energy resolution of the detector has been improved to σ/E=1.23%, the electric field in the drift region has been raised by 50%, and a system to suppress radon in the volume between the cryostat and lead shielding has been implemented. In addition, analysis techniques that improve topological discrimination between 0νββ and background events have been developed. Incorporating these hardware and analysis improvements, the median 90% confidence level 0νββ half-life sensitivity after combining with the full data set acquired before the upgrade has increased twofold to 3.7×10^{25} yr. No statistically significant evidence for 0νββ is observed, leading to a lower limit on the 0νββ half-life of 1.8×10^{25} yr at the 90% confidence level.

Management of the infrastructure of international cooperation and integration is characterized by low efficiency and is constrained by the lack of scientific and methodological support for these processes. The problem is that the existing needs of small and medium-sized businesses for infrastructure support for international cooperation and integration are unmet, while budget resources are spent on the development of those infrastructure components that are not in demand or can only bring practical benefits in combination with other components. Scientific novelty consists in the development of scientific and methodological recommendations for optimizing the management of international cooperation and integration of small and medium-sized businesses in the Stavropol territory.
Abstract Coating detector materials with films highly reflective in the vacuum ultraviolet region improves sensitivity of the next-generation rare-event detectors that use liquid xenon. In this work, ...we investigate the MgF 2 -Al-MgF 2 coating designed to achieve high reflectance at 175 nm, the mean wavelength of liquid xenon (LXe) scintillation. The coating was applied to an unpolished, passivated copper substrate mimicking a realistic detector component of the proposed nEXO experiment, as well as to two unpassivated substrates with “high” and “average” levels of polishing. After confirming the composition and morphology of the thin-film coating using TEM and EDS, the samples underwent reflectance measurements in LXe and gaseous nitrogen (GN2). Measurements in LXe exposed the coated samples to -100°C for several hours. No peeling of the coatings was observed after several thermal cycles. Polishing is found to strongly correlate with the measured specular reflectance ( R spec ). In particular, 5.8(5)% specular spike reflectance in LXe was measured for the realistic sample at 20° of incidence, while the values for similar angles of incidence on the high and average polish samples are 62.3(1.3)% and 27.4(7)%, respectively. At large angles (66°–75°), the R spec in LXe for the three samples increases to 23(5)%, 80(8)%, and 84(18)%, respectively. The R spec at around 45° was measured in both GN2 and LXe for average polish sample and shows a reasonable agreement. Importantly, the total reflectance of the samples is comparable and estimated to be 92(8)%, 85(8)%, and 83(8)% in GN2 for the realistic, average, and high polish samples, respectively. This is considered satisfactory for the next-generation LXe experiments that could benefit from using reflective films, such as nEXO and DARWIN, thus validating the design of the coating.

. Here we present a search for magnetic monopole production by the Schwinger mechanism in Pb-Pb heavy ion collisions at the Large Hadron Collider, producing the strongest known magnetic fields in the current Universe
. It was conducted by the MoEDAL experiment, whose trapping detectors were exposed to 0.235 per nanobarn, or approximately 1.8 × 10
, of Pb-Pb collisions with 5.02-teraelectronvolt center-of-mass energy per collision in November 2018. A superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetometer scanned the trapping detectors of MoEDAL for the presence of magnetic charge, which would induce a persistent current in the SQUID. Magnetic monopoles with integer Dirac charges of 1, 2 and 3 and masses up to 75 gigaelectronvolts per speed of light squared were excluded by the analysis at the 95% confidence level. This provides a lower mass limit for finite-size magnetic monopoles from a collider search and greatly extends previous mass bounds.
Liquid xenon (LXe) is employed in a number of current and future detectors for rare event searches. We use the EXO-200 experimental data to measure the absolute scintillation and ionization yields ...generated by γ interactions from 228Th (2615 keV), 226Ra (1764 keV), and 60Co (1332 keV and 1173 keV) calibration sources, over a range of electric fields. The W value that defines the recombination-independent energy scale is measured to be 11.5 ± 0.5 (syst.) ±0.1 (stat.) eV. These data are also used to measure the recombination fluctuations in the number of electrons and photons produced by the calibration sources at the MeV scale, which deviate from extrapolations of lower-energy data. Additionally, a semiempirical model for the energy resolution of the detector is developed, which is used to constrain the recombination efficiency, i.e., the fraction of recombined electrons that result in the emission of a detectable photon. Detailed measurements of the absolute charge and light yields for MeV-scale electron recoils are important for predicting the performance of future neutrinoless double β-decay detectors.
Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs) are attractive candidates for light detectors for next generation liquid xenon double-beta decay experiments, like nEXO (next Enriched Xenon Observatory). In this ...paper we discuss the requirements that the SiPMs must satisfy in order to be suitable for nEXO and similar experiments, describe the two test setups operated by the nEXO collaboration, and present the results of characterization of SiPMs from several vendors. In particular, we find that the photon detection efficiency at the peak of xenon scintillation light emission (175-178 nm) approaches the nEXO requirements for tested FBK and Hamamatsu devices. Additionally, the nEXO collaboration performed radio-assay of several grams of bare FBK devices using neutron activation analysis, indicating levels of 40 K, 232 Th, and 238 U of the order of <; 0.15, (6.9 · 10 - 4 - 1.3 · 10 - 2 ), and <; 0.11 mBq/kg, respectively.

Based on the data on the abundance of 53 generations of pink salmon
Oncorhynchus gorbuscha
of Iturup Island (spawners on spawning grounds, downstream migrating juveniles and the return of mature ...fish), a model describing the dependence of the abundance of mature pink salmon offspring on the initial abundance of generations and the effect of external factors was constructed using nonlinear regression analysis. The model explains about 80% of the replenishment variability, and it depends more on the effect of external factors in the freshwater period of life. The variability of replenishment is most closely related to factors related to the hydrological regime of rivers. The dependence of replenishment on the abundance of juveniles migrating downstream from spawning grounds, described by the dome-shaped curve, indicates the limiting effect of density factors on the formation of the abundance of pink salmon during the marine period of life. At the same time, a statistically significant effect of the abundance of juveniles released from fish hatcheries on the dynamics of the replenishment was not found.
Abstract
The nature of dark matter and properties of neutrinos are among the most pressing issues in contemporary particle physics. The dual-phase xenon time-projection chamber is the leading ...technology to cover the available parameter space for weakly interacting massive particles, while featuring extensive sensitivity to many alternative dark matter candidates. These detectors can also study neutrinos through neutrinoless double-beta decay and through a variety of astrophysical sources. A next-generation xenon-based detector will therefore be a true multi-purpose observatory to significantly advance particle physics, nuclear physics, astrophysics, solar physics, and cosmology. This review article presents the science cases for such a detector.
