La coexistence des éloges de deux cités aussi différentes qu’Athènes et Rome dans l’œuvre d’Aelius Aristide (discours En l’honneur de Rome et Panathénaïque) a souvent conduit à disqualifier les deux ...discours. Comment Aristide peut-il faire d’Athènes le lieu de tout processus de civilisation quand Rome incarne une perfection qui doit mettre fin à l’histoire ? Sous une façade historique, le Panathénaïque se veut un éloge total qui réponde enfin à l’excellence de son objet et mette aujour l’unité organique profonde d’Athènes. Cette nouvelle Athènes est caractérisée par la philanthrôpia, vertu qui a pour fonction à la fois d’unifier toute l’histoire de la cité et d’en donner un schéma interprétatif. La dunamis, que vantait particulièrement le Périclès de Thucydide, existe toujours mais elle est désormais transposée dans un autre ordre de valeur : l’empire d’Athènes est celui de la langue et de la culture, qui agit par attraction sur tous les peuples et diffuse les valeurs de l’hellénisme. Ainsi, tout en adossant l’Athènes contemporaine à l’Athènes du passé, Aristide opère une mutation des valeurs classiques visant à mettre en valeur les qualités qui décrivent un nouveau comportement politique, fondé sur le consentement et l’adhésion.

This paper presents a simple and nondestructive method to determine doping densities and built‐in potential of subcells by adapting the well‐known capacitance‐voltage (C‐V) technique to two‐terminal ...(2 T) tandem solar cells. Because of the electrical coupling between the two subcells in a monolithic 2 T tandem solar cell, the standard method using a Mott‐Schottky plot (1/C2 vs V) cannot be applied. Using numerical modeling, it is demonstrated that, by under chosen illumination conditions where only one subcell can absorb the light, it is possible to explore the bias dependence of the capacitance and to extract the parameters of the other subcell if the appropriate frequency conditions are present. This method is experimentally applied to an AlGaAs/Si tandem cell, and parameters of both AlGaAs and Si cells are extracted. Finally, the validity of that method is assessed by the very good agreement obtained when comparing the values extracted from our measurements on the tandem cell to those extracted from measurements on isotype cells and to the values targeted during the fabrication process of the AlGaAs/Si tandem solar cell.
Using analytical and numerical modeling approaches, a comprehensive analysis of the capacitance response of the tandem solar cell is developed. From there, despite the electrical coupling, parameters of the two subcells in an AlGaAs/Si monolithic tandem solar cell are accessed from capacitance‐voltage characterization under specific light bias. The good agreement between modeling, measurements, and the parameters targeted during the fabrication process validates the proposed method.
Composite energetic nanomaterials, otherwise known as nanothermites, consist of physical mixtures of fuel and oxidizer nanoparticles. When a combustion reaction takes place between both components, ...extremely impressive conditions are created, such as high temperatures (>1000 °C), intense heat releases (>kJ/cm3), and sometimes gas generation. These conditions can be adjusted by modifying the chemical nature of both reactants. However, these energetic composites are extremely sensitive to electrostatic discharge. This may lead to accidental ignitions during handling and transportation operations. This study examines the use of a n-type semiconductor ITO material as an alternative oxidizer combined with aluminum fuel. Indium tin oxide (ITO) ceramic is widely used in the elaboration of conducting coatings for antistatic applications because of its ability to conduct electrical charges (n-type semiconductor). The energetic performance of the Al/ITO thermite was determined, i.e., the sensitivity threshold regarding mechanical (impact and friction) and electrostatic discharge (ESD) stresses, as well as the reactive behavior (heat of reaction, combustion front velocity). The results demonstrate insensitivity toward mechanical stresses regardless of the ITO granulometry. As regards the spark sensitivity, using ITO microparticles considerably raises the sensitivity threshold value (<0.21 mJ vs. 13.70 mJ). A combustion velocity of nearly 650 m/s was also determined.
We briefly review the basic concepts of junction capacitance and the peculiarities related to amorphous semiconductors, paying tribute to Cohen and to his pioneering work. We extend the discussion to ...very high efficiency silicon heterojunction (SiHET) solar cells where both an amorphous semiconductor, namely hydrogenated amorphous silicon, and heterojunctions are present. By presenting both modeling and experimental results, we demonstrate that the conventional theory of junction capacitance based on the depletion approximation in the space charge region, cannot reproduce the capacitance data obtained on SiHET cells. The experimental temperature dependence is significantly stronger than that of the depletion-layer capacitance, while the bias dependence yields underestimated values of the diffusion potential, leading to strong errors if applied to the determination of band offsets using the procedure proposed precedingly in the literature. We demonstrate that this is not related to the amorphous nature of a-Si:H, but to the existence of a strongly inverted c-Si surface layer that requires minority carriers to be taken into account in the analysis of the junction capacitance.
