There are many types of disabilities, and each type has a variety related to socioeconomic factors. Such factors affect to many health problems of the disabled. However, surveys of the oral health ...status of the disabled in Korea are rare.
The purpose of this study was to estimate oral health disparity through comparing oral health status of the disabled to the non-disabled, adjusted for the net effect of the disability on oral health status.
A cross-sectional study was conducted among the disabled in urban and suburban areas in Korea from June to September 2016. People with physical, mental, and multiple disabilities took part in this survey. The clinical examinations were carried out by trained dentists. Statistical analysis was performed to quantify the association between oral health and socioeconomic status after restricting the analysis using a propensity score matching method.
The disabled had more DMFT, DT, and MT, fewer FT, and fewer teeth than the non-disabled based on entire groups (P<0.01). No difference in the ratio of periodontitis was observed. The subjects with mental disabilities (MD) scored 3.09 (95% CI, 1.07-8.97), and those with multiple disabilities scored 4.37 (95% CI, 1.16-16.37) for edentulous status. The MD had an odds ratio of 1.34 (95% CI, 1.03-1.74), and those with multiple disabilities had an odds ratio of 1.75 (95% CI, 1.11-2.76) for the DMFT index.
These results represent poor oral health status of the disabled compared to the non-disabled. Consequentially, we can verify that not only the existence of disability but also the type of disability has a decisive effect on oral health condition. This comparison is necessary to widen our approach to evaluate the actual status condition of the disabled.

Objectives:
Nodular gastritis (NG) associated with Helicobacter pylori infection can occur commonly in childhood and is regarded to be benign without clinical significance. This study ...includes endoscopic and histologic analysis of gastric mucosa‐associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) to clarify the significance of NG on endoscopy in H pylori–infected children.
Methods:
Of the 758 children who underwent endoscopy, 80 were identified as having H pylori infection. These patients were divided into 3 groups based on endoscopic severity of gastric nodularity. Histopathologic grading of MALT and immunohistochemistry of CD3, CD20, cytokeratin, and Ki‐67 were evaluated.
Results:
On endoscopy, severe NG was observed in the antrum of 38 of the 80 subjects, mild NG in 27, and an absence of NG in 15. Density of H pylori and lymphocyte infiltration differed among the 3 groups (P = 0.022 and P = 0.025, respectively). Histological grading for gastric lymphoid infiltrates was compatible with grade 1 in 47 (58.8%), grade 2 in 21 (26.3%), grade 3 in 7 (8.8%), and grade 4–5 in 4 (5.1%) in the antrum. Degree of NG, density of H pylori, neutrophil activity, and gastritis score in the antrum varied with MALT grades (P = 0.003, P = 0.042, P = 0.028, and P = 0.006, respectively).
Conclusions:
Our study suggests NG may present as a significant gastric manifestation of childhood H pylori infection that indicates gastric MALT. Thorough histologic investigation may be useful in the evaluation of gastric MALT in children infected with H pylori that manifests as severe NG in the antrum.

Methods: A Delphi survey was conducted among 16 people in various professions, including academia, government agencies, and dentistry, to evaluate the validity of the information and communication technology platform. Moreover, platform satisfaction was evaluated using a user experience questionnaire among 200 people, including persons with disabilities, parents, and public institutions. Results: Experts in consensus indicated a high validity for the categories of service provider (CV=0.29, CVR=0.69), service target (CV=0.29, CVR=0.38), service contests (CV=0.27, CVR=0.63), and financial support (CV=0.30, CVR=0.63) in our information and communication technology platform. In addition, information from questionnaires on user experience and communication technology satisfaction analysis showed that both users and providers were highly satisfied with the platform. Conclusions: The provision of oral health services based on the new information and communication technology platform has numerous advantages, in addition to providing adequate oral health care for the disabled. Furthermore, the social safety net for improved oral health may be further strengthened.

Chromatographic enantiomer resolution of chiral amines was performed on several covalently immobilized and coated chiral stationary phases (CSPs) based on polysaccharide derivatives under the mobile ...phase conditions containing base or acid or acid/base additive. The chromatographic parameters including separation factors and capacity factors were greatly influenced by the nature of the mobile phase containing base or acid or salt additive as well as the used CSPs. When 0.05% triethylamine/0.05% trifluoroacetic acid as an additive in the mobile phase was used on all CSPs in this study, the greatest enantiomer resolution was observed except for Chiralpak AD. Also, it was shown that the change of base additive into acid or salt in the mobile phase may directly affect chiral recognition mechanisms between the chiral selectors and analytes occurring during enantiomer separation, resulting in the change of elution orders.

3-stearic acid is described. This procedure was based on acidic treatment, liquid–liquid extraction, and chemical derivatization prior to instrumental analysis. Eleven pentafluorophenyldimethylsilyl-SFA derivatives were well separated without any interfering peaks in plasma samples. The characteristic ions at M−15, constituting the base peaks in the electron impact mass spectra for 11 SFAs, permitted their sensitive detection by GC–MS in the selected ion monitoring (SIM) mode. The SIM responses were linear with correlation coefficients varying from 0.993 to 0.999 in the concentration range of 0.05∼50 μg/ml for the 11 SFAs. The detection limits for SIM of the SFAs varied in the range of 0.05∼10.0 pg. When applied to the plasma samples of normal subjects and patients with X-linked adenoleukodystrophy, which is one of the hereditary peroxisomal disorders, the present method enabled us to determine the SFAs with good sensitivity and good overall precision and accuracy within the concentration ranges of 0.14∼82.35 μmol/l.
The sensitivity factors and the error propagation factors are defined for the three-parameter ellipsometry (TPE). The sensitivity factor is useful for understanding the nature of the TPE measurements ...in connection with determination of the optical properties and the thickness of a film. On the other hand, the error propagation factors provide a quantitative tool for predicting the optimum condition for TPE experiments. Their usefulness is demonstrated for the passive film formed on nickel in aqueous solution.
Recurrent and/or metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of head and neck (R/M SCCHN) is a common cancer with high recurrence and mortality. Current treatments have low response rates (RRs).
Fifty-three ...patients with R/M SCCHN received continuous oral buparlisib. In parallel, patient-derived xenografts (PDXs) were established in mice to evaluate resistance mechanisms and efficacy of buparlisib/cetuximab combination. Baseline and on-treatment tumour genomes and transcriptomes were sequenced. Based on the integrated clinical and PDX data, 11 patients with progression under buparlisib monotherapy were treated with a combination of buparlisib and cetuximab.
For buparlisib monotherapy, disease control rate (DCR) was 49%, RR was 3% and median progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were 63 and 143 days, respectively. For combination therapy, DCR was 91%, RR was 18% and median PFS and OS were 111 and 206 days, respectively. Four PDX models were originated from patients enrolled in the current clinical trial. While buparlisib alone did not inhibit tumour growth, combination therapy achieved tumour inhibition in three of seven PDXs. Genes associated with apoptosis and cell-cycle arrest were expressed at higher levels with combination treatment than with buparlisib or cetuximab alone.
The buparlisib/cetuximab combination has significant promise as a treatment strategy for R/M SCCHN.

We investigated whether head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) patient-derived xenografts (PDXs) reaffirm patient responses to anti-cancer therapeutics.
Tumors from HNSCC patients were ...transplanted into immunodeficient mice and propagated via subsequent implantation. We evaluated established PDXs by histology, genomic profiling, and in vivo anti-cancer efficacy testing to confirm them as the authentic in vivo platform.
From 62 HNSCCs, 15 (24%) PDXs were established. The primary cancer types were tongue (8), oropharynx (3), hypopharynx (1), ethmoid sinus cancer (1), supraglottic cancer (1), and parotid gland (1); six PDXs (40%) were established from biopsy specimens from advanced HNSCC. PDXs mostly retained donor characteristics and remained stable across passages. PIK3CA (H1047R), HRAS (G12D), and TP53 mutations (H193R, I195T, R248W, R273H, E298X) and EGFR, CCND1, MYC, and PIK3CA amplifications were identified. Using the acquisition method, biopsy showed a significantly higher engraftment rate when compared with that of surgical resection (100% 6/6 vs. 16.1% 9/56, P < 0.001). Specimens obtained from metastatic sites showed a significantly higher engraftment rate than did those from primary sites (100% 9/9 vs. 11.3% 6/53, P < 0.001). Three PDX models from HPV-positive tumors were established, as compared to 12 from HPV-negative (15.8% 3/19 and 27.9% 12/43 respectively, P = 0.311), suggesting that HPV positivity tends to show a low engraftment rate. Drug responses in PDX recapitulated the clinical responses of the matching patients with pan-HER inhibitors and pan-PI3K inhibitor.
Genetically and clinically annotated HNSCC PDXs could be useful preclinical tools for evaluating biomarkers, therapeutic targets, and new drug discovery.
