This study investigates eastward-moving summer heavy rainfall events in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River (LRYR), which are associated with the Tibetan Plateau (TP) vortices. On the basis of ...rainfall data from gauges and additional atmospheric data from ERA-Interim, the dynamic and thermodynamic effects of moisture transport and diabatic heating are estimated to determine the physical mechanisms that support the eastward-moving heavy rainfall events. As the rainband moves eastward, it is accompanied by anomalous cyclonic circulation in the upper and middle troposphere and enhanced vertical motion throughout the troposphere. In particular, the rainfall region is located in the fore of the upperlevel trough, which is ideal for baroclinic organization of the convective system and further development of the eastwardmoving vortex. The large atmospheric apparent heat source (Q₁) also contributes for lifting the lower-level air into the upper atmosphere and for enhancing the low-level convective motion and convergence during the heavy rainfall process. Piecewise potential vorticity inversion further verifies the crucial role that the diabatic heating played in developing the anomalous geopotential height favorable for the enhanced rainfall. The combined action of the dynamic and thermodynamic processes, as well as the rich moisture supply from the seas, synergistically sustained and enhanced the eastward-moving rainfall.

Linezolid (LZD) has been widely used for treating the infections of multidrug-resistant gram-positive organisms. As we know, anemias induced by Linezolid (LZD) are common. However, LZD-induced pure ...red cell aplasia (PRCA) is very rare. In this paper, we report on a 68-year-old woman with intravascular stent infection who developed PRCA after treatment with LZD. The patient presented to our hospital with a 6-month history of fever after stent implantation for aneurysms in both lower limbs. Bone culture grew methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus hemolyticus (MRSH). She received LZD after developing adverse reactions to initial antibiotics. Although her infective symptoms were improved by LZD, progressive thrombocytopenia was observed 23 days after LZD therapy. Her platelets declined to 66 x 10.sup.9/L and hemoglobin level was 10.1 g/dL. Thrombocytopenia recovered 12 days after cessation of LZD. LZD was administered again due to recovered fever. 57 days after LZD administration, her hemoglobin level was 4.1 g/dL and reticulocytes were 0.2%. Bone marrow smear revealed active granulocyte proliferation and markedly decreased erythropoiesis with vacuolar degeneration. 12 days after cessation of LZD, her hemoglobin and reticulocyte levels rose to 9.6 g/dL and 5.1%, respectively. LZD was used for the third time as fever and inflammatory markers progressively increased, but Hb was reduced to 6.7g/dL 15 days after LZD therapy. 12 days after cessation of LZD, the hemoglobin level rose to 11.9 g/dL. In summary, we suggest complete blood count and reticulocyte count should be monitored to detect bone marrow suppression during long-term LZD therapy, especially in patients aged over 58 and/or with pre-existing anemia, chronic infections, and renal insufficiency. The magnetic properties of Fe70-xDyxZr8Mo5W2B15 (0 < = x < = 5) bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) are studied using dc and ac susceptibility measurements. A re-entrant spin glass behaviour is observed in ...the BMGs and the phenomenon is ascribed to Dy-microalloying-induced site frustration. The magnetic properties of the BMGs are found to be tunable by appropriate selection of the Dy content, and the schematic magnetic phase diagram as a function of Dy content is derived.
Abstract
Background
The definition of cancer therapy-related cardiac dysfunction (CTRCD) has evolved in the past ten years, as Cardio Oncology has consolidated as a new medical discipline. However, ...great heterogeneity is noted among the published criteria of the different types of cardiotoxicities by the different scientific societies.
In order to mitigate this variability, a new definition of CTRCD has been recently proposed by the International Cardio-Oncology Society (IC-OS) and endorsed by the latest 2022 ESC Guidelines on cardio-oncology. CTRCD is now classified into different degrees of severity according to symptoms, left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) reduction guided by echocardiography and elevation of cardiac biomarkers.
Purpose
we aimed to assess the impact of the new consensus definition of CTRCD in the reclassification of cardiotoxicity in a breast cancer cohort of female patients receiving potentially cardiotoxic therapies (CT) attended in our third-level hospital.
Methods
we retrospectively analyzed and compared the incidence of the different subtypes of CTRCD in a cohort of female breast cancer patients evaluated in our hospital from 2018 to 2021 according to both the previous 2016 ESC Position Paper on cancer treatments and cardiovascular toxicity and the latest 2021 ICOS definition.
Results
a cohort of 193 women with a breast cancer diagnosis and receiving CT was analyzed. Mean age was 58 ± 11 years and 57 % of the patients (110) had a least one cardiovascular risk factor, with no past history of cardiac disease. According to the previous ESC 2016 criteria, 16 patients (8.3%) had cardiac dysfunction associated with cancer treatment whereas with the 2021 IC-OS new definition, a total of 23 women (12%) would have been satisfied the CTRCD criteria. Of Those, 11 were asymptomatic and 7 had severe CTRCD. Overall, this would have translated into a 30% rise in the incidence of patients experiencing any type of cardiotoxicty (p < 0.0001).
Conclusion(s)
by using the new IC-OS criteria for CTRCD, a significant increase in the prevalence of cardiotoxicity was noted in our population, which may translate the higher sensitivity of the proposed criteria to detect clinical or subclinical cardiovascular damage derived from cancer treatment.
The cellular prion protein (PrPC) is encoded by a chromosomal gene, and its scrapie isoform (PrPSc) features in all aspects of the prion diseases. Prior to the studies reported here, purification of ...PrPC has only been accomplished using immunoaffinity chromatography yielding small amounts of protein. Brain homogenates contain two PrPC forms designated PrPC‐I and ‐II. These proteins were purified from a microsomal fraction by detergent extraction and separated by immobilized Cu2+ ion affinity chromatography. PrPC‐II appears to be generated from PrPC‐I by limited proteolysis of the N‐terminus. Fractions enriched for PrPC‐I were purified further by cation‐exchange chromatography and sodium dodecyl sulfate‐polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS‐PAGE). Greater than 90% of the final product migrated as a broad band of Mr 33–35 kDa as judged by silver staining after SDS‐PAGE. Digestion of PrPC‐I with peptide‐N‐glycosidase (PNGase) compressed the band and shifted its mobility giving an Mr of 27 kDa. The protocol described should be amenable to large‐scale preparation of PrPC, enabling physical comparisons of PrPC and PrPSc.
Abstract
Objectives
Mood disorders and strokes are often comorbid, and their health toll worldwide is huge. This study characterizes prognostic and etiological roles of mood disorders in stroke.
...Methods
We tested if genetic susceptibilities for mood disorders could predict future strokes using the Malmö Diet and Cancer cohort (24 631 individuals). Additionally, Mendelian randomization was employed to further examine the causality using summary statistics from large genome wide association studies (mood disorders: up to 287,932 individuals; strokes: up to 446,696 individuals).
Results
Among 24,366 stroke-free participants at baseline, 2,632 individuals developed strokes, 2,172 of them ischemic, during a follow-up of up to 25 years. After all adjustments, participants in the highest quintile (5th quintile) of polygenic risk scores (PRS) for mood disorders had 1.46x (95% confidence interval (CI): 1.22–1.74) higher risk of strokes and 1.45x (95% CI: 1.19–1.77) higher risk of ischemic strokes compared to the lowest quintile (1st quintile) of PRS in women. Univariable and multivariable Mendelian randomization analyses showed that mood disorders had causal effect on smoking (odds ratio (OR) = 1.19, 95% CI: 1.07–1.31), type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D, OR=1.22, 95% CI: 1.04–1.43) and women's body mass index (BMI, coefficient = 0.11, 95% CI: 0.01–0.21), whereas causal effects for smoking, T2D and BMI on stroke/ischemic stroke were consistently observed.
Conclusion
Our results suggest that mood disorders can cause stroke through smoking, T2D and BMI. Using PRS, women, who benefit from prevention and treatment of smoking, T2D and BMI, could possibly be early identified to prevent mood disorders and strokes.

•The upgraded major imaging optics is designed to work in both 16 and 24 vertical channels configurations.•The radial focus position of each array is able to move from LFS edge to HFS edge ...independently without affecting the image plane shapes.•Two LO optics systems are demonstrated enough coupling efficiency to drive all mixers on antenna arrays according to the laboratory test.
The new quasi-optical electron cyclotron emission imaging (ECEI) diagnostic system on the J-TEXT tokamak has been developed and characterized. The quasi-optical system consists of two subsystems: the major imaging optics system for plasma imaging and the local oscillator (LO) optics system to drive the mixers in the antenna array. For the updated demands, some modifications and adaptations are accomplished on the major imaging optics. The vertical zoom ratio, focus capability, and field curvature have been measured on the J-TEXT facility, with good matching with the simulation results. For the various experimental requirements on J-TEXT, the remote control system is adopted for the major imaging optics. As for LO optics systems, spherical LO optics and hyperbolic LO optics have demonstrated high performance. Uniform power deposition has been optimized to drive all mixers and minimize insertion loss.
