Our initial structure-activity relationship studies on 7-methoxy-4-morpholino-benzothiazole derivatives featured by aryloxy-2-methylpropanamide moieties at the 2-position led to identification of ...compound 25 as a potent and selective A
adenosine receptor (A
AdoR) antagonist with reasonable ADME and pharmacokinetic properties. However, poor intrinsic solubility and low to moderate oral bioavailability made this series unsuitable for further development. Further optimization using structure-based drug design approach resulted in discovery of potent and selective adenosine A
receptor antagonists bearing substituted 1-methylcyclohexyl-carboxamide groups at position 2 of the benzothiazole scaffold and endowed with better solubility and oral bioavailability. Compounds 41 and 49 demonstrated a number of positive attributes with respect to in vitro ADME properties. Both compounds displayed good pharmacokinetic properties with 63% and 61% oral bioavailability, respectively, in rat. Further, compound 49 displayed oral efficacy in 6-OHDA lesioned rat model of Parkinson diseases.
The budding yeast (
Saccharomyces cerevisiae) gene deletion library consists of a collection of more than 6,000 gene-deletion mutants and is useful for high-throughput screening of anti-cancer drugs. ...Because of the shorter doubling time and the significant homology
the budding yeast shares with human cells, using a high-throughput chemical screen of budding yeast gene deletion library, one can rapidly identify various genetic targets of anti-cancer drugs. But analyzing the data derived from a yeast library screen to identify corresponding human homologs and their status in various cancers is a cumbersome process. We have developed a web-based app,
Oncoyeasti, which enables the researcher to automatically identify the corresponding human homologs of
S. cerevisiae and the status of these homologs genes in tumor samples from The Cancer Genome Atlas Database and cell line samples from the Cancer Cell Line Encyclopedia. This would enable the scientists to identify the tumors and choose cell lines to work on and thus serve as an indispensable tool to translate their research into human cancers.
Introduction: Safety monitoring of vaccines used in routine programmes on immunization is important in all settings. There is a lot of debate in the country about the relevance of the pentavalent ...vaccine in general and the Hib component in particular, in view of reports of deaths in children following immunization. This study was conducted to evaluate the incidence and profile of AEFI in children receiving pentavalent vaccine. Methods: A cohort study was conducted between May to Oct 2012, in a tertiary care hospital, Pune. Exposed groups received pentavalent vaccine, while the control received DPT or DPT + Hep B. Both the groups were followed up telephonically after 24 hr, 48 hr, 72 hr and 7 days following vaccination. 175 children in both groups were studied. Convenient sampling was done recruiting consecutive vaccinees till the sample size was achieved. Frequency, percentage, mean difference (T test) and chi square test was used to find associationResults: 100 % children were institutional delivery. In controls, 80 % received DPT and Hep B, rest received only DPT. Fever was present in 76.2 % among exposed and 26.7% among non-exposed. Presence of fever after 1 day following immunization was significantly associated with exposed group (P=0.003). In 19 % exposed group fever continued for 2nd day. Other side effects included swelling (4.8 %) and reduced appetite (4.8 %) among exposed. Conclusion: Pentavalent vaccine does not increase the probability of deaths among the vaccines vis-a-vis nor receivers. The profile of AEFI among both the groups, except fever, is similar as far as frequency and severity is concerned.
A major cause of early pancreas allograft failure is venous thrombosis. Pancreas transplantation in a patient with sickle cell trait may carry greater risk, given a two to four fold increased risk of ...venous thromboembolism in patients with sickle cell trait. A 51-year-old lady with non-transfusional dependent SC hemoglobin, a single alpha hemoglobin gene deletion, type 2 diabetes mellitus and end stage renal disease on peritoneal dialysis was listed as active for simultaneous pancreas and kidney (SPK) transplantation. We coordinated a preemptive strategy to reduce the potential risk of perioperative thrombosis, including banking of well matched blood products with appropriate timing of red cell exchanges. This case report reviews the first successful pancreas transplantation in a patient with sickle cell trait. A transfusion strategy with careful perioperative timing of red cell exchanges resulted in no major thrombotic complications.
The UNOS Pancreas Transplant Committee is formulating allocation rules for whole organ pancreas transplantation. Controversy exists in the role of pancreas transplantation for Type II diabetics. The ...current plan is to limit transplantation in Type II diabetics to patients with a BMI less than 30. This report compares the outcome of thirty-five patients with a BMI less than 30 to nine patients whose BMI exceeded 30. Sampaio et al. 1 compared 582 Type ll diabetics to 6141 Type l recipients in the SRTR database from 2000 to 2007 and found no difference in patient and graft survivals. They reported an increased risk of pancreas graft loss with elevated BMI in both Type l and ll recipients. Our report has the advantage of being a single center study but lacks the numbers to make a definitive conclusion. Our data does not support a BMI cutoff of 30 for whole organ pancreas transplantation in type II diabetics.
In today's world almost every common man owns a vehicle. Theft is a common issue which everyone faces in parking and sometimes driving near insecure places. Vehicle security and accident prevention ...is more challenging. So in order to bring a solution for this problem the proposed system can be implemented. Vehicle security enhancement and accident prevention system can be developed through tracking and locking, fuel theft, accident detection and prevention, driver fatigue, pollution control and speed limiting with efficient vehicle management system. The need for this is to provide security to the vehicles by engine locking system which prevents the vehicle from unauthorized access. It can also prove beneficial to find out the exact location of the accident. This proposed work is an attempt to design such a system using global positioning system (GPS) to determine the precise location of a object, person or other asset to which it is attached and to transmit this information using GSM modem.

The Steady State Superconducting Tokamak (SST-1) is currently being refurbished in a mission mode at the Institute for Plasma Research with an ultimate objective of producing the first plasma in ...early 2012. Since January 2009, under the SST-1 Mission mandate, a broad spectrum of refurbishment activities have been initiated and pursued on several subsystems of SST-1. Developing sub-nano-ohm leak-tight joints in the magnet winding packs, developing single-phased LN 2 -cooled thermal shields, developing supercritical-helium-cooled 5-K thermal shields for magnet cases, ensuring thermal and electrical isolations between various subsystems of SST-1, testing of each of the SST-1 toroidal field (TF) magnets at 4.5 K with nominal currents, testing each of the modules and octants of the SST-1 machine shell in representative experimentally simulated scenarios, augmentation and reliability establishment of the SST-1 vacuum vessel baking system, time synchronizations among various heterogeneous subsystems of SST-1, large data-storage scenarios, and integrated engineering testing of the first phase of the plasma diagnostics are some of the major refurbishment activities. Presently, the SST-1 device integration is in full swing. The cold test of the assembled SST-1 TF and poloidal field magnets began in December 2011. Following the successful testing of the SST-1 superconducting magnet system and engineering validations of the machine shell, the first plasmas will be attempted in SST-1. The first plasma will be ~ 100-kA limiter assisted with the available volt-seconds and could possibly be assisted by ECCD/LHCD.
Sulfonamide substituted 8-hydroxyquinoline derivatives were prepared using a microwave synthesizer. The interaction of sulfonamide substituted 8-hydroxyquinoline derivatives and their transition ...metal complexes with Plasmid (pUC 19) DNA and Calf Thymus DNA were investigated by UV spectroscopic studies and gel electrophoresis measurements. The interaction between ligand/metal complexes and DNA was carried out by increasing the concentration of DNA from 0 to 12 μl in UV spectroscopic study, while the concentration of DNA in gel electrophoresis remained constant at 10 μl. These studies supported the fact that, the complex binds to DNA by intercalation via ligand into the base pairs of DNA. The relative binding efficacy of the complexes to DNA was much higher than the binding efficacy of ligands, especially the complex of Cu-AHQMBSH had the highest binding ability to DNA. The mobility of the bands decreased as the concentration of the complex was increased, indicating that there was increase in the interaction between the metal ion and DNA. Complexes of AHQMBSH were excellent for DNA binding as compared to HQMABS.
The objective of the present study is to investigate the engineering properties of paddy (One-thousand-one) grown in the coastal region of Odisha (India). The average length, width and thickness of ...paddy are measured as 8.80 mm, 2.65 mm and 1.91 mm respectively at moisture content of 28% (wb). The mean bulk density and true density of the particular variety of paddy are measured to be 0.61 g/cc and 1.47 g/cc. Properties like equivalent diameter, sphericity, grain volume, grain surface area, aspect ratio and porosity are calculated to be 3.58 mm, 0.40, 24.00 mm3, 35.66 mm2, 0.30, 58.24% respectively. The angle of repose and angle of friction of the paddy grains are determined to be 37.73o and 0.43o, 0.25o, 0.30o with plywood, glass and galvanized iron respectively. These engineering properties are useful in design of forced convection dryer for the drying and processing of paddy.
