Fusarium
wilt is one of the major yield and growth-limiting factors of pigeonpea (
Cajanus cajan
). For an ecofriendly and sustainable management of such a disease, a novel mycolytic strain
Pantoea ...dispersa
was evaluated against fungal pathogen
Fusarium udum
that is known to be infecting the susceptible variety of pigeonpea (T-15-15), commonly prevalent in India. To study the efficacy of
P. dispersa
as a biocontrol agent in comparison with chemical fungicide Bavistin and antifungal biocontrol agent
Trichoderma
Monitor WP was studied in both pot and field experiments.
In vitro, P. dispersa
inhibits the growth of
F. udum
. In the pot experiment,
P. dispersa
the treated pigeon pea (T-15-15) seeds showed higher percentage of seed germination and decreased wilt incidence as compared to chemical fungicide; Bavistin and antifungal biocontrol agent
Trichoderma
Monitor WP treatments. Moreover, the root, shoot lengths and growth were also found to be higher. Due to high impact of
P. dispersa
in
in vitro
condition on controlling the
F. udum
growth, further study was conducted in field in a wilt-stricken plot. These studies were repeated for three cropping seasons (2004/2007). The seed dressing by
P. dispersa
reduced wilt incidence (47%) during field trials, which is greater than Bavistin (41%) and
Trichoderma
Monitor WP (36%) treatments. Hence
P. dispersa
was proven superior to
Trichoderma
Monitor WP and Bavistin; which are used as commercial
Fusarium
wilt control agents.
The modified Blalock-Taussig shunt (BTS) is commonly performed as an early palliative procedure in neonates and infants with complicated congenital cyanotic heart defects in order to enhance ...pulmonary blood flow. Patel et al describe an infant with Tetralogy of Fallot who developed a false aneurysm of the modified BTS. Clinical features and radiographic and computerized tomography findings are presented.
Iron and folate deficiency is an important cause of anaemia among young children. Folate is necessary for the production and maintenance of new cells. This is especially important during periods of ...rapid cell division and growth such as infancy and pregnancy. The aim of this study was to estimate the magnitude of iron deficiency and the improvement in the Hb level by alternate day IFA supplementation. It was observed that amongst 65 students, 63% were found to be anaemic. After alternate day IFA supplementation for 1 month the prevalence decreased to 48.4% with overall increase in mean Hb of 0.59 gm%, from 11.29 to 11.88.
Disruption of the homeostatic balance between proliferation and apoptosis is widely believed to contribute to human oral carcinogenesis. Using the Syrian hamster oral cancer model, we examined ...normal, hyperplastic, dysplastic and malignant oral epithelium for the fraction of apoptotic, proliferating and p12
doc-1 expressing keratinocytes using the TUNEL assay, as well as PCNA and p12
doc-1 immunostaining, respectively. The percentage of TUNEL positive cells progressively increased from normal to dysplastic epithelium (
P<0.0019), but returned to normal keratinocyte levels in the malignant epithelium (
P<0.20). However, PCNA positive cells increased progressively through hamster oral malignant progression (
P<0.0012). The overall ratio of apoptotic to proliferating keratinocytes remains similar until the transition between dysplastic and malignant epithelium, where the ratio is markedly reduced (
P<0.05). p12
doc-1 labeling demonstrated a similar expression pattern (
P<0.008). This study demonstrates that apoptosis, proliferation and the expression of p12
doc-1 reflects alterations reported during human oral carcinogenesis and supports the use of the Syrian hamster model for the further examination of these pathways.

Web Services have become dependable platform for e-commerce and many B2B models. Extensive adaptation of Web Services has resulted in a bunch of standards such as WS-Security, WS-Trust etc. to ...support business and security requirements for the same. Majority of the web services are offered over Http with Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) as an underlying exchange infrastructure. This paper describes attacks targeted at Web Services such as XML injection, XSS injection, HTTP header manipulation, sending stale message and other protocol specific attacks. We have used XML Re-Writing mechanism to perform "timestamp modification attack" and WS-Trust, WS-SecureConversation protocols attack. Schemas stated in WSDL file may not be accurate enough to validate messages effectively; Schemas should reflect structure of all possible genuine requests. Hence, we have proposed a new self-adaptive schema hardening algorithm to obtain fine-tuned schema that can be used to validate SOAP messages more effectively. We have also proposed mitigation techniques to counter attacks using MIME/DIME attachments.
BACKGROUND:The lateral trochanteric support plate (LSP) was developed to prevent excessive sliding of unstable intertrochanteric femur fractures fixed with a sliding hip screw (SHS). This study ...compared the fracture stability and screw sliding characteristics of unstable intertrochanteric femur fractures fixed with either an SHS and LSP or an Intramedullary Hip Screw (IMHS).
METHODS:Six matched pairs of cadaveric human femurs with simulated, unstable intertrochanteric femur fractures were stabilized with either an IMHS or a 135-degree SHS with an attached LSP. Inferior and lateral head displacements and lag screw sliding distances were measured for applied static loads of 750 N, before and after cycling.
RESULTS:Four-part unstable intertrochanteric femur fractures showed comparable screw sliding characteristics and stability whether instrumented with an SHS and LSP or an IMHS.
CONCLUSION:A sliding hip screw with an attached lateral support plate provides stability and ability to resist medial displacement of the femoral shaft similar to that seen with the IMHS.
