This article will not judge the quality of the reenactment nor do I claim it to be the ultimate truth about the work. All reenactments bring with them the poetics of variation. I will, however, use ...the inconsistency that caused me such disappointment to reexamine more carefully the traces left by Street Dance. As part of my own research into site specific choreography, I wish to conduct a kind of dissection of Street Dance’s traces, to understand the existence of this work through its documentary material. Whilst the implications of site-specific choreography arise from the specific link between a work and a place, I will here study these documents from two angles. The first – important to dance research – concentrates on the nature of choreography and dance, questioning in more detail the way in which movement expresses a special relationship to place. The second angle concentrates on the place itself: what do the documents reveal about the place in which Street Dance takes place? We therefore have to reassess the images of the work as described by witnesses and historians, considering them from the unique perspective of a history of site specific choreography.
Abstract
Sibling bereavement is a life-changing event with implications for the individual and family. In a study guided by Gadamer’s philosophical hermeneutics focused on sibling bereavement when ...the brother or sister dies for a drug-related reason, a critical realisation became apparent; it is possible to understand one person’s story from multiple standpoints. This is directly relevant to social work practice as different viewpoints make it possible to illuminate other aspects of the person’s experience keeping us open to hearing more, reflecting and willing to learn something new. A summary of the literature on the three subject areas is presented, as are the identified gaps that helped refine the research questions. A synopsis of what it means to conduct research underpinned by Gadamer’s philosophy is outlined and then elucidated through application to one participant’s interview. The article serves a dual purpose of presenting information on subject areas relating to drug and alcohol, thanatology and family therapy theory, promoting understanding in these horizons. The primary aim is to focus on one of the participants, Karen, from the larger study to show how different horizons bring different understandings to the fore. The article calls for social workers to expand their horizons of understanding.
Sibling bereavement is a life-changing event. When the brother or sister dies for a drug-related reason, there are additional implications for the bereaved sibling and their family. This article presents relevant knowledge on three horizons drug and alcohol, bereavement and family therapy theory to aid understanding of these experiences. In addition, the article shows how one person’s experience can be viewed from different horizons and how different understandings of the same experience can therefore be achieved.
Marketing decisions and strategic planning of tourism provisions require knowledge of factors affecting this choice and type of trips and forecast of tourism flows in the short and long term. It is ...interesting to know how holidaymakers select their holiday destinations and investigate which factors are determining their choices. Indeed the objective of this paper is to analyze the role of High Speed Rail systems in this choice. A survey was carried out in Paris in October 2012, tourists were interviewed close to the Eiffel Tower, Paris Lyon Central Train Station and Notre-Dame Cathedral. The results will be compared with a previous survey employed in Rome in April 2012. The scope here is providing an answer to the questions: are tourists influenced by the presence of High Speed Rail in choosing Paris or Rome for their holidays? Does High Speed Rail influence the probability of visiting other served cities and returning to Paris or to Rome? The research suggests that several factors (the presence of architectural sites, the quality of promotion of the destination itself, the presence of events) influence the choice of a tourist. It also shows that the HSR system has affected the choice of Paris and Rome differently.
By characterizing the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) as a "mainspring of cultural diversity," UNESCO has demonstrated its will to recognize marginalized cultural practices. However, the ...identification process conducted by the countries involved in the framework of the 2003 Convention tends to exclude certain ICH expressions. In the context of its Swiss implementation, this study explores the heritagization of practices related to "folk medicine". Drawing on an ethnographic approach, it accounts for the socio-historical trajectory of this category and the way heritage making involves diverse adjustments of these practices. Practices are thus adjusted and adapted to international standards and incorporated in hegemonic cultural representations. The study concludes that the requalification of these practices in a heritage logic takes into consideration the formal health system and reproduces medical hierarchies.
We describe an overweight COVID-19 patient with respiratory distress preceded by anosmia/dysgeusia with no lung injury shown on CT, angio-CT or ventilation/perfusion scans. Orthopnoea and paradoxical ...abdominal respiration were identified. Phrenic paralysis, demonstrated by examination of patient breathing, and on x-ray while standing breathing in and out, explained the respiratory distress. This is a rare and previously undescribed neurological complication of COVID-19 infection caused by vagus nerve injury.
Phrenic paralysis must be kept in mind as a rare neurological complication of COVID-19.Vagus nerve palsy is a neurological manifestation as anosmia and dysgeusia, that were already identified in the olfactory system of COVID-19 patients.
In the late 2000s, there are major rivalries between territorial levels in Île-de-France (Paris region area). Those tensions are related to different issues: its governance, the conduct of its urban ...development and its transport policy. At the national level, various policies (Grenelle, recovery plan) stimulate new thinking on infrastructure projects including new high-speed rail (HSR). In this special context, several HSR station projects are proposed in Île-de-France. This article contains an analysis of this specific period. It seems even more surprising that support of local stakeholders for HSR projects has been weak in the past. This study provides finding in the field of transport and urban development: (i) on the way in which stakeholders are mobilising HSR and why, (ii) on the local specificities of the decentralisation process in this area.
In Walk, Hands, Eyes (a city), choreographer Myriam Lefkowitz invites a spectator to walk in an urban environment, in silence and with eyes closed. This article looks at the spatial, imaginary, ...sensory and kinaesthetic dimensions of the artistic experience, to question the way sensory knowledge specific to contemporary dance leads people to wander in and consider a city differently.
