We describe the Hybrid seeding, a stand-alone pattern recognition algorithm aiming at finding charged particle trajectories for the LHCb upgrade. A significant improvement to the charged particle ...reconstruction efficiency is accomplished by exploiting the knowledge of the LHCb magnetic field and the position of energy deposits in the scintillating fibre tracker detector. Moreover, we achieve a low fake rate and a small contribution to the overall timing budget of the LHCb real-time data processing.
The update of the discovery potential for a Standard Model Higgs boson through the inclusive searches H'gg, H'ZZ* and H'WW with the ATLAS detector is reported. The analysis are based on the most ...recent available simulations of signal, backgrounds as well as the detector response.
A search for \CP violation in Cabibbo-suppressed $D^{\pm}\rightarrow K^0_{\mathrm{S}} K^{\pm}$ and $D^{\pm}_{s}\rightarrow K^0_{\mathrm{S}} \pi^{\pm}$ decays is performed using $pp$ collision data, ...corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3~fb$^{-1}$, recorded by the LHCb experiment. The individual $CP$-violating asymmetries are measured to be \begin{eqnarray*} \mathcal{A}_{CP}^{D^{\pm}\rightarrow K^0_{\mathrm{S}} K^{\pm}} & = & (+0.03 \pm 0.17 \pm 0.14) \% \mathcal{A}_{CP}^{D^{\pm}_{s}\rightarrow K^0_{\mathrm{S}} \pi^{\pm}} & = & (+0.38 \pm 0.46 \pm 0.17) \%, \end{eqnarray*} assuming that $CP$ violation in the Cabibbo-favoured decays is negligible. A combination of the measured asymmetries for the four decay modes $D^{\pm}_{(s)}\rightarrow K^0_{\mathrm{S}} K^{\pm}$ and $D^{\pm}_{(s)}\rightarrow K^0_{\mathrm{S}} \pi^{\pm}$ gives the sum \ \mathcal{A}_{CP}^{D^{\pm}\rightarrow K^0_{\mathrm{S}} K^{\pm}} + \mathcal{A}_{CP}^{D^{\pm}_{s}\rightarrow K^0_{\mathrm{S}} \pi^{\pm}} = (+0.41 \pm 0.49 \pm 0.26) \%. \ In all cases, the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The results represent the most precise measurements of these asymmetries to date and show no evidence for CP violation.

The BaBar detector has operated over 200 2nd generation Resistive Plate Chambers (RPCs) in the forward endcap since 2002. Many chambers have increased noise rates and high-voltage currents. These ...aging symptoms are correlated with the integrated RPC current as expected, but also depend on the rate and direction of the gas flow, indicating that pollutants produced in the gas can accelerate aging of downstream RPC surfaces. HF produced by decomposition of the Freon 134a component of the BaBar RPC gas in electric discharges has been proposed as the main pollutant. This paper presents measurements of HF production and absorption rates in BaBar RPCs. Since many of the highest rate chambers in the forward endcap were converted to avalanche mode operation, a comparison of HF production in streamer and avalanche mode RPCs is made. Correlations between the HF production rate and other chamber operating conditions were also explored.
Measurements of charm mixing parameters from the decay-time-dependent ratio of D0->K+pi- to D0->K-pi+ rates and the charge-conjugate ratio are reported. The analysis uses data, corresponding to 3 ...fb^{-1} of integrated luminosity, from proton-proton collisions at 7 and 8 TeV center-of-mass energies recorded by the LHCb experiment. In the limit of charge-parity (CP) symmetry, the mixing parameters are determined to be x'^2=(5.5 +- 4.9)x10^{-5}, y'= (4.8 +- 1.0)x10^{-3}, and R_D=(3.568 +- 0.066)x10^{-3}. Allowing for CP violation, the mixing parameters are determined separately for D0 and D0bar mesons yielding A_D = (-0.7 +- 1.9)%, for the direct CP-violating asymmetry, and 0.75 < |q/p|< 1.24 at the 68.3% confidence level, where q and p are parameters that describe the mass eigenstates of the neutral charm mesons in terms of the flavor eigenstates. This is the most precise determination of these parameters from a single experiment and shows no evidence for CP violation.
A measurement of the $C\P$ asymmetry in $B^+ \rightarrow K^+ \mu^+ \mu^-$ decays is presented using $pp$ collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0${\,fb}^{-1}$, recorded by the ...LHCb experiment during 2011 at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. A search for the lepton-flavour violating decays \Bsemu and \Bdemu is performed with a data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of \mbox{1.0} fb$^{-1}$ of $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = ...7$\, TeV, collected by the LHCb experiment. The observed number of $B^0_s \to e^{\pm} \mu^{\mp}$ and $B^0 \to e^{\pm} \mu^{mp}$ candidates is consistent with background expectations. Upper limits on the branching fractions of both decays are determined to be $BR(B^0_s \to e^{\pm} \mu^{\mp} < 1.1 \,(1.4) \times 10^{-8}$ and $BR (B^0 \to e^{\pm} \mu^{mp} < 2.8 \,(3.7) \times 10^{-9}$ at 90% (95%) confidence level (C.L.). These limits are a factor of twenty lower than those set by previous experiments. Lower bounds on the Pati-Salam leptoquark masses are also calculated, $M_{\rm LQ} (B^0_s \to e^{\pm} \mu^{mp}) > 107$} TeV/c$^2$ and $M_{\rm LQ} (B^0 \to e^{\pm} \mu^{\mp}) > 126$ TeV/c$^2$ at 95% C.L., and are a factor of two higher than the previous bounds.
Using pp collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $1.0 \mathrm{fb}^{-1}$, collected by LHCb in 2011 at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, we report the measurement of direct CP ...violation in $B^0_s \to K^-\pi^+$ decays, $A_{C/!P}(B^0_s \rightarrow K^- \pi^+)=0.27 \pm 0.04\,\mathrm{(stat)} \pm 0.01\,\mathrm{(syst)}$, with significance exceeding five standard deviations. This is the first observation of CP violation in the decays of $B^0_s$ mesons. Furthermore, we provide an improved determination of direct CP violation in $B^0 \to K^+\pi^-$ decays, $A_{C/!P}(B^0\rightarrow K^+ \pi^-)=-0.080 \pm 0.007\,\mathrm{(stat)} \pm 0.003\,\mathrm{(syst)}$, which is the most precise measurement of this quantity to date.
This paper reports the first measurement of the effective B_s^0 -> J/{\psi} K_S^0 lifetime and an updated measurement of its time-integrated branching fraction. Both measurements are performed with a ...data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb^{-1} of pp collisions, recorded by the LHCb experiment in 2011 at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. The results are: tau_J/{\psi}K_S^0 = 1.75 +/- 0.12 (stat) +/- 0.07 (syst) and BR(B_s^0 -> J/{\psi} K_S^0) = (1.97 +/- 0.23) X 10^{-5}. For the latter measurement, the uncertainty includes both statistical and systematic sources.
First observations of the $B^0_s \rightarrow \psi(2S) \eta$, $B^0 \rightarrow \psi(2S) \pi^+ \pi^-$ and $B^0_s \rightarrow \psi(2S) \pi^+ \pi^-$ decays are made using a dataset corresponding to an ...integrated luminosity of 1.0~$fb^{-1}$ collected by the LHCb experiment in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV. The ratios of the branching fractions of each of the $\psi(2S)$ modes with respect to the corresponding $J/\psi$ decays are \ \frac{\mathcal{B}(B^0_s \rightarrow \psi(2S) \eta) }{\mathcal{B}(B^0_s \rightarrow J/\psi \eta)} =0.83\pm0.14\,(stat)\pm0.12\,(syst)\pm0.02\,(\mathcalB}), \ \ \frac{\mathcal{B}(B^0 \rightarrow \psi(2S) \pi^+ \pi^-)}{\mathcal{B}(B^0 \rightarrow J/\psi \pi^+ \pi^-)} =0.56\pm0.07\,(stat)\pm0.05\,(syst)\pm0.01\,(\mathcal{B}), \ \ \frac{\mathcal{B}(B^0_s \rightarrow \psi(2S) \pi^+ \pi^-)}{\mathcal{B}(B^0_s \rightarrow J/\psi \pi^+ \pi^-)} =0.34\pm0.04\,(stat)\pm0.03\,(syst)\pm0.01\,(\mathcal{B}), \ where the third uncertainty corresponds to the uncertainties of the dilepton branching fractions of the $J/\psi$ and $\psi(2S)$ meson decays.
