LGBT Identity and Online New Media examines constructions of LGBT identity within new media. The contributors consider the effects, issues, influences, benefits and disadvantages of these new media ...phenomena with respect to the construction of LGBT identities. A wide range of mainstream and independent new media are analyzed, including MySpace, Facebook, YouTube, gay men’s health websites, message boards, and Craigslist ads, among others. Christopher Pullen is Senior Lecturer in Media Studies at Bournemouth University, UK. He has widely published in the area sexuality and contemporary media, and is the author of Documenting Gay Men: Identity and Performance in Reality Television and Documentary Film (2007), and Gay Identity, New Storytelling and the Media (2009).
Margaret Cooper is a sociologist at Southern Illinois University. Her work on gender identity has been internationally published in journals, textbooks, and various collections. In addition, she is a former recipient of the Humanitarian of the Year Award in Nashville, Tennessee.

The new pyridyl-substituted 3H-naphtho2,1-bpyrans display good ...photochromic properties with reversible generation of photomerocyanines, which exhibit mainly orange/red hues. Photochromic parameters including photocolorability and persistence of color vary tremendously on structural modification of the naphthopyran core.
This essay discusses gay identity and notions of character construction relating to the concept of tragic determination in media representations. Issues of adaptation and the significance of the ...Dionysian and Apollonian drives within tragedy (relating to Nietzsche's foundational work) are explored. A key concept is the examination of tensions between civic usefulness and emotive potential. Through an examination of Alan Turing's disavowal as a gay icon (as a war time hero) in the Hollywood film Enigma (dir. Michael Apted 2001) in the substitution of a heterosexual romance, and conversely his sympathetic representation within the stage and television drama Breaking the Code (dir. Hugh Whitemore 1986), this essay reveals the problem of the gay hero in popular film, and its sensibility in diverse adaptations. In exploring the contemporary 'heroic' representation of gay political icons, Harvey Milk and Pedro Zamora, this essay also reveals a problem-oriented cinematic world where the spectre of the sacrificial/tragic gay self offers replacement for the historic subordinated and othered gay character. In this way, new stimulations of mainstream media commodity offer the potential of subaltern transgression, yet at the same time reinforce the periphery of diverse sexual identity.
Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) is increasingly used for the treatment of complex proximal humerus fractures and fracture sequelae. In 2021, half a dozen models of fracture stems are ...commercially available, reflecting its growing utility for fracture management. Prosthesis designs, bone grafting and tuberosity fixation techniques have evolved to allow better and more reliable fixation of tuberosities and bony ingrowth. Patients with anatomical tuberosity healing not only have an increased range of active anterior elevation and external rotation, but also experience fewer complications and longer prosthesis survival. This review provides an overview of recent evidence on basic and fracture-specific RTSA design features as well as tuberosity fixation techniques that can influence tuberosity healing.
Acromial and scapular spine fractures after reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) can be devastating complications leading to substantial functional impairments. The purpose of this study was to ...review factors associated with increased acromial and scapular spine strain after RTSA from a biomechanical standpoint.
A systematic review of the literature was conducted based on PRISMA guidelines. PubMed, Embase, OVID Medline, and CENTRAL databases were searched and strict inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied. Each article was assessed using the modified Downs and Black checklist to appraise the quality of included studies. Study selection, extraction of data, and assessment of methodological quality were carried out independently by two of the authors. Only biomechanical studies were considered.
Six biomechanical studies evaluated factors associated with increased acromial and scapular spine strain and stress. Significant increases in acromial and scapular spine strain were found with increasing lateralization of the glenosphere in four of the included studies. In two studies, glenosphere inferiorization consistently reduced acromial strain. The results concerning humeral lateralization were variable between four studies. Humeral component neck-shaft angle had no significant effect on acromial strain as analysed in one study. One study showed that scapular spine strain was significantly increased with a more posteriorly oriented acromion (55° vs. 43°;
< 0.001). Another study showed that the transection of the coracoacromial ligament increased scapular spine strain in all abduction angles (
< 0.05).
Glenoid lateralization was consistently associated with increased acromial and scapular spine strain, whereas inferiorization of the glenosphere reduced strain in the biomechanical studies analysed in this systematic review. Humeral-sided lateralization may increase or decrease acromial or scapular spine strain. Independent of different design parameters, the transection of the coracoacromial ligament resulted in significantly increased strains and scapular spine strains were also increased when the acromion was more posteriorly oriented. The results found in this systematic review of biomechanical in-silico and in-vitro studies may help in the surgical planning of RTSA to mitigate complications associated with acromion and scapular spine fracture.

The longitudinal documentary ...A Change of Sex: George and Julia and the docudrama Paddington Green offer new perspectives on celebrity and community; the documentaries My Dad Diane and She's a Boy I Knew offer an exploration of domesticity and realism; the reality television shows There's Something About Miriam and I Am Cait, alongside the documentary Trantasia: Every Boy Has a Dream reveal the significance of the “care of the self” and the ability to parody the “deceptive rhetoric”; and the documentaries Lucy: Teenage Transsexual, My Transsexual Summer, and Transsexual Teen: Beauty Queen explore the notion of regular teens and surgical precedents. Although the analysis largely focuses on the performances of male to female transpeople, these texts reveal a changing cultural world for transgender and transsexual citizens within the media.

Throughout their circumtropical distribution, bonefish (Albula spp.) play a vital role in local economies as a highly prized sport fish. Recent interest in stock enhancement to sustain bonefish ...fisheries has led to the recognition that there currently are no data on how to live capture large numbers of adults (potential broodstock), transport them to captive facilities and how to handle them to ensure high survival. The objective of this study was to develop strategies for the capture and relocation of wild bonefish to a marine research holding facility to enable basic research and explore the potential for culturing bonefish for stock enhancement. Bonefish Albula vulpes (Linnaeus, 1758) were captured as they entered or left tidal creeks on Eleuthera, The Bahamas using seine nets and then transported by boat or truck to the laboratory. The relocation process evoked secondary stress responses at the metabolic, osmoregulatory and haematological levels as indicated by changes in blood glucose, lactate, haematocrit and ion values, relative to control fish. Physical and behavioural disturbances were also observed in bonefish that were unable to acclimate to laboratory conditions. Successful laboratory acclimation and long-term holding of wild bonefish was achieved through an adaptive learning process, whereby we identified a series of strategies and handling techniques to facilitate the acclimation of wild adult bonefish to captivity. This knowledge will enable future laboratory research on bonefish and is a prerequisite to the culture of this highly prized sport fish, and other sub-tropical and tropical marine species.
