The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has created significant challenges for people worldwide. To combat the virus, one of the most dramatic measures was the lockdown of 4 billion people in what is ...believed to be the largest quasi-quarantine in human history. As a response to the call to study information behavior during a global health crisis, we adopted a resource orchestration perspective to investigate six Chinese families who survived the lockdown. We explored how elderly, young and middle-aged individuals and children resourced information and how they adapted their information behavior to emerging online technologies. Two information resource orchestration practices (information resourcing activities and information behavior adaptation activities) and three mechanisms (online emergence and convergence in community resilience, the overcoming of information flow impediments, and the application of absorptive capacity) were identified in the study.
In 2007, China started the market reform of industrial land, with the aim of establishing a more effective industrial land market and promoting the effective allocation of land. For this study, we ...want to explore what strategic choices local governments and enterprises will make under the background of market-oriented reform, and whether there are still some implicit land price subsidies. In this context, based on matching micro land transfer data (2007–2013), we examined the policy effect in the seven years since the reform. Then, we further analyzed the land transfer strategies of local governments and the differences they made to enterprises’ land purchasing decisions against the background of the reform. The following were found: ① With the deepening of market reform, the effect has gradually become clear. The proportion of industrial land transferred through market modes increases year by year. Furthermore, due to marketization, the price of industrial land has increased significantly, and land purchases among enterprises have become more competitive. ② Against the background of the reform, local governments tend to adopt listing as an alternative to negotiation, so as to attract investment from preferred enterprises. ③ Local governments tend to give state-owned and large or medium enterprises more subsidies by way of listing, which reduces the land purchase price for these enterprises. Based on the results, the market-oriented reform of land should be adhered to, and the selection mechanism of tender, auction, and listing transfer methods should be further standardized and refined. Besides, a variety of ways to meet the needs of enterprises for land use (such as lease first and then transfer) should be proposed to compensate for the existing insufficiency.
Successful business transformation requires companies to cope with serious resource constraints. Despite fruitful research on the factors influencing transformation, how companies achieve ...transformation remains unclear. This study investigates transformation mechanisms by adopting the resource orchestration perspective and conducting a case study of a fintech company. The findings demonstrate a three-stage model of resource constraints, resource orchestration actions, and resulting capabilities. This study contributes to transformation theory by exploring the transformation process with a focus on resource constraints and actions and the capabilities to respond to the constraints.
Previous research has suggested giving more attention to the quality of precision agricultural technology adoption. By taking the information processing view as the theoretical lens, this study ...investigates precision agriculture adoption cases from two Chinese agricultural organizations to examine how they achieve high-quality adoption. Interviews, secondary data collection and coding strategies were utilized to collect and analyze the data to identify the development of information processing capabilities. The research findings reveal two pathways for developing information processing capabilities through different information processing controls and networks appropriate for cooperatives (co-ops) and agricultural firms. This study contributes to the agricultural technology adoption literature by extending precision agriculture technology adoption from the adoption rate to adoption quality.
•Information processing is an approach to achieve the high-quality adoption of precision agriculture.•There are two pathways for developing agricultural information processing capabilities.•Information processing control and networks respond to agricultural information processing requirements.•A concerted information processing capability is developed by a human-driven approach.•A systematic information processing capability is developed by a technology-driven approach.
User innovation has received widespread attention in academia and industry over the past four decades. However, not all users play a role in innovation. Fans, who are users who continuously interact ...with firms, have become new drivers of innovation and have helped firms achieve great success in practice, which has been enabled by ongoing advances in information and communication technologies. We utilize the concept of social presence as a theoretical lens and conduct a case study to explore the mechanisms through which continuous interaction is achieved to transform users into fans. The findings identify two types of fans, namely, amateur and professional fans, and their corresponding ways of achieving continuous interaction. The present work can benefit academics by contributing to research concerning fan innovation and social presence and can help practitioners by enabling more fans to participate in innovation activities.
Abstract Background: Health crisis responses underline maintaining normal operations. By utilizing digital resources, organizations are able to maintain essential operations through transiting their ...operations from offline to online during a health crisis. However, little is known about how organizations rapidly adapt to online operations. By taking resource bricolage as the theoretical lens, this study investigates the process that organizations rapidly transit from offline to online through digital resource bricolage during health crises. Methods: A case study of two primary schools that maintained operations during COVID-19 was conducted, with a focus on the utilization of digital resources and resource bricolage. Secondary data collection, interviews and coding strategy were utilized to collect and analyze data to reveal the process that organizations rapidly transit from offline to online through digital resource bricolage. Results: The findings reveal a sequential three-step resource bricolage process, including redeploying digital resource functions, combining digital and non-digital resources, and coordinating interaction among participants, as well as the corresponding resource bricolage behaviors and domains. Conclusions: This study contributes to information systems (IS) studies on crisis responses by identifying the sequential steps of digital resource bricolage to transit from offline to online during health crises. In addition, this study contributes to the development of resource bricolage perspectives by identifying new resource bricolage actions that suitable for the health crisis response.
Rapid development of the hickory (Carya cathayensis Sarg.) industry and excessive use of herbicides as well as other intensive management practices have resulted in serious damage to soil properties ...and forest vegetation. A decline in soil nutrients and a reduction in soil microbial biodiversity are often observed. The objective of this study is to evaluate the potential of sod-culture to improve soil fertility and microbial activities of C. cathayensis forest soil, a 2-year field trial was initiated in 2010. In this study, six treatments (white clover, rye grass, oil rape seed, milk vetch, natural weeds and clean tillage (as CK)) each with three replicates were assessed in a randomized design. In conclusion, this study showed that planting white clover, milk vetch or oil rape seed will provide the best results for improving soil nutrients and microbial properties under C. cathayensis forest.
Taking the demonstration biogas construction city in Henan Province-Weihui City as the survey and research city, we give an overview of the industrial and agricultural base and current situation of ...biogas development in Weihui City, and analyze the main problems in biogas construction, such as simple development mode of biogas adopted by rural households, laggard construction of large and medium-sized biogas projects, unsound service system for biogas development and failure to comprehensively use biogas resources. According to the practical work experience, we sum up the following.
