The ever-growing availability of computing power and the sustained development of advanced computational methods have contributed much to recent scientific progress. These developments present new ...challenges driven by the sheer amount of calculations and data to manage. Next-generation exascale supercomputers will harden these challenges, such that automated and scalable solutions become crucial. In recent years, we have been developing AiiDA (aiida.net), a robust open-source high-throughput infrastructure addressing the challenges arising from the needs of automated workflow management and data provenance recording. Here, we introduce developments and capabilities required to reach sustained performance, with AiiDA supporting throughputs of tens of thousands processes/hour, while automatically preserving and storing the full data provenance in a relational database making it queryable and traversable, thus enabling high-performance data analytics. AiiDA's workflow language provides advanced automation, error handling features and a flexible plugin model to allow interfacing with external simulation software. The associated plugin registry enables seamless sharing of extensions, empowering a vibrant user community dedicated to making simulations more robust, user-friendly and reproducible.
Ti–6Al–4V open cellular foams were fabricated by additive manufacturing using electron beam melting (EBM). Foam models were developed from CT-scans of aluminum open cellular foams and embedded in CAD ...for EBM. These foams were fabricated with solid cell structures as well as hollow cell structures and exhibit tailorable stiffness and strength. The strength in proportion to the measured microindentation hardness is as much as 40% higher for hollow cell (wall) structures in contrast to solid, fully dense EBM fabricated components. Plots of relative stiffness versus relative density were in good agreement with the Gibson–Ashby model for open cellular foam materials. Stiffness or Young's modulus values measured using a resonant frequency-damping analysis technique were found to vary inversely with porosity especially for solid cell wall, open cellular structure foams. These foams exhibit the potential for novel biomedical, aeronautics, and automotive applications.
Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), the leading cause of death worldwide, share in common mitochondrial dysfunction, in specific a dysregulation of Ca2+ uptake dynamics through the mitochondrial Ca2+ ...uniporter (MCU) complex. In particular, Ca2+ uptake regulates the mitochondrial ATP production, mitochondrial dynamics, oxidative stress, and cell death. Therefore, modulating the activity of the MCU complex to regulate Ca2+ uptake, has been suggested as a potential therapeutic approach for the treatment of CVDs. Here, the role and implications of the MCU complex in CVDs are presented, followed by a review of the evidence for MCU complex modulation, genetically and pharmacologically. While most approaches have aimed within the MCU complex for the modulation of the Ca2+ pore channel, the MCU subunit, its intra‐ and extra‐ mitochondrial implications, including Ca2+ dynamics, oxidative stress, post‐translational modifications, and its repercussions in the cardiac function, highlight that targeting the MCU complex has the translational potential for novel CVDs therapeutics.
In this work we develop a variable order (VO) differential equation of motion for a spherical particle sedimenting in a quiescent viscous liquid. In particular, we examine the various force terms in ...the equation of motion and propose a new form for the history drag acting on the particle. We show that the variable order formulation allows for an effective way to express the dynamic transition of the dominant forces over the entire time of the motion of the particle from rest to terminal velocity. The use of VO operators also allows us to examine the evolving dynamics of the wake during sedimentation. Using numerical data from a finite element simulation of a sedimenting particle, we first solve for the order of the derivative that returns the correct decay of the history force. We then propose a relatively simple expression for the history force that is a function of the Reynolds number and particle-to-fluid density ratio. The new history drag expression correlates very well (

The second cohomology group (SCG) of the Jordan superalgebra
$\mathcal{D}_{t}$, $t\neq 0$, is calculated by using the coefficients which
appear in the regular superbimodule ...$\mathrm{Reg}\mathcal{D}_t$. Contrary to
the case of algebras, this group is nontrivial thanks to the non-splitting
caused by the Wedderburn Decomposition Theorem \cite{Faber1}. First, to
calculate the SCG of a Jordan superalgebra we use split-null extension of the
Jordan superalgebra and the Jordan superalgebra representation. We prove
conditions that satisfy the bilinear forms $h$ that determine the SCG in Jordan
superalgebras. We use these to calculate the SCG for the Jordan superalgebra
$\mathcal{D}_{t}$ , $t\neq 0$. Finally, we prove that
$\mathcal{H}^2(\mathcal{D}_{t},
\textrm{Reg}\mathcal{D}_{t})=0\oplus\mathbb{F}^2$, $t\neq 0$.
The cerambycid fauna of the tropical dry forest of the Sierra of Huautla, Morelos, Mexico, is described. Collections were made between November 1995 and October 1996, during 5 d of every month, and ...collection methods included light trapping, Malaise trapping, and netting, sweeping and beating. A total of 153 species, 91 genera, 32 tribes, and four subfamilies was recorded. The subfamily with the greatest number of species was Cerambycinae with 78, followed by Lamiinae with 67, Lepturinae with six, and Prioninae with two. The tribes with the largest number of genera and species were Trachyderini with 13 and 17 and Acanthocini with 12 and 23. The genera with the most species were Phaea Newman with 11 and Lepturges Bates with eight. Estimated richness values using the nonparametric estimators ICE and Chao 2 were 251 and 241, respectively. A few species were very abundant, but many were represented by only a few individuals. The diversity value calculated with the Shannon Index over the entire year was 3.86. Species richness and abundance varied with time, with the highest values recorded in the rainy season and lowest values in the dry season. The fauna was more similar to the fauna of Chamela, Jalisco, than to El Aguacero, Chiapas, and consists of 65% species endemic to Mexico.
We investigate an analogue to the Wedderburn Principal Theorem (WPT) for a
finite-dimensional Jordan superalgebra $J$ with solvable radical $N$ such that
$N^2=0$ and $J/N\cong JP_n$, $n\geq 3$.
We ...consider $N$ as an irreducible $JP_n$-bimodule and we prove that the WPT
holds for $J$.
The Transient Receptor Potential Vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) ion channel is expressed in nociceptors where, when activated by chemical or thermal stimuli, it functions as an important transducer of painful ...and itch-related stimuli. Although the interaction of TRPV1 with proteins that regulate its function has been previously explored, their modulation by chaperones has not been elucidated, as is the case for other mammalian TRP channels. Here we show that TRPV1 physically interacts with the Sigma 1 Receptor (Sig-1R), a chaperone that binds progesterone, an antagonist of Sig-1R and an important neurosteroid associated to the modulation of pain. Antagonism of Sig-1R by progesterone results in the down-regulation of TRPV1 expression in the plasma membrane of sensory neurons and, consequently, a decrease in capsaicin-induced nociceptive responses. This is observed both in males treated with a synthetic antagonist of Sig-1R and in pregnant females where progesterone levels are elevated. This constitutes a previously undescribed mechanism by which TRPV1-dependent nociception and pain can be regulated.

Motivated by the increasing use of external instruments to identify structural vector autoregressions (SVARs), we develop an algorithm for exact finite sample inference in this class of time series ...models, commonly known as Proxy-SVARs. Our algorithm makes independent draws from any posterior distribution over the structural parameterization of a Proxy-SVAR. Our approach allows researchers to simultaneously use proxies and traditional zero and sign restrictions to identify structural shocks. We illustrate our methods with two applications. In particular, we show how to generalize the counterfactual analysis in Mertens and Montiel-Olea (2018) to identified structural shocks.
