The field of gynecologic oncology is rapidly evolving with the increasing availability of new therapeutics, including targeted therapies. In parallel, the field of surgery is shifting from the use of ...radical procedures to more-conservative approaches with fewer risks of complications. For patients with early-stage cervical cancer, the current recommendation according to National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines is open radical hysterectomy with bilateral pelvic lymphadenectomy (with or without sentinel lymph-node mapping) when fertility preservation is not desired.
1
However, prospective data have shown that radical hysterectomy is associated with high rates of perioperative complications (e.g., urinary and bowel dysfunction).
2
Numerous retrospective . . .
In this prospective randomized trial, minimally invasive radical hysterectomy resulted in lower rates of disease-free survival and overall survival than open abdominal radical hysterectomy among ...women with early-stage cervical cancer.
A prospective randomized trial and an epidemiologic study that used large cancer databases (National Cancer Database and SEER) both showed that minimally invasive radical hysterectomy was associated with shorter survival in early cervical cancer than open abdominal radical hysterectomy.
With the decrease of DNA sequencing costs, sequence-based typing methods are rapidly becoming the gold standard for epidemiological surveillance. These methods provide reproducible and comparable ...results needed for a global scale bacterial population analysis, while retaining their usefulness for local epidemiological surveys. Online databases that collect the generated allelic profiles and associated epidemiological data are available but this wealth of data remains underused and are frequently poorly annotated since no user-friendly tool exists to analyze and explore it.
PHYLOViZ is platform independent Java software that allows the integrated analysis of sequence-based typing methods, including SNP data generated from whole genome sequence approaches, and associated epidemiological data. goeBURST and its Minimum Spanning Tree expansion are used for visualizing the possible evolutionary relationships between isolates. The results can be displayed as an annotated graph overlaying the query results of any other epidemiological data available.
PHYLOViZ is a user-friendly software that allows the combined analysis of multiple data sources for microbial epidemiological and population studies. It is freely available at http://www.phyloviz.net.

This is the first updated Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) Society guideline presenting a consensus for optimal perioperative care in gynecologic/oncology surgery.
A database search of ...publications using Embase and PubMed was performed. Studies on each item within the ERAS gynecologic/oncology protocol were selected with emphasis on meta-analyses, randomized controlled trials, and large prospective cohort studies. These studies were then reviewed and graded according to the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) system.
All recommendations on ERAS protocol items are based on best available evidence. The level of evidence for each item is presented accordingly.
The updated evidence base and recommendation for items within the ERAS gynecologic/oncology perioperative care pathway are presented by the ERAS® Society in this consensus review.
Highlights • Sentinel lymph detection rates were 89% in high risk patients. • The sensitivity of SLN was 95% in high-risk endometrial cancer. • The FNR of SLN with side-specific LAD when an SLN is ...not detected is 4.3%.
