The incidence rate of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is rising. It is one of the most common cancers worldwide and accounts for substantial morbidity and mortality. Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) ...infection, chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) are the most important etiologies of HCC, and effective screening and management strategies are crucial to reduce the HCC risk. For HBV, which accounts for the majority of HCC cases, most infections were acquired via perinatal and early horizontal transmission. Universal vaccination of newborns has led to a decline in HCC incidence compared with the pre-vaccination era. Effective antiviral therapies with nucleos(t)ide analogues or pegylated interferon reduced the incidence of HCC. For HCV, the emergence of effective direct-acting antiviral (DAA) agents has substantially improved cure rates; therefore all patients with HCV should be considered for DAA treatment. The most important obstacle in eliminating HCV is access to therapy. For NAFLD, the global incidence is increasing rapidly, thus its impact on HCC incidence may be explosive. Progression to HCC in NAFLD happens particularly in those with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and exacerbated by metabolic syndrome, or PNPLA3 gene polymorphism. Lifestyle changes are imperative while drug therapy has yet to demonstrate substantive protective effects on HCC prevention. For management of HCC, early diagnosis via imaging surveillance among persons with HCC risk factors remains the most important strategy to identify early-stage disease appropriate for resection or transplantation.

Here, we investigated the functional role of soybean ...(Glycine max) BIR1 (GmBIR1) during soybean interaction with soybean cyst nematode (SCN, Heterodera glycines) and the molecular mechanism through which GmBIR1 regulates plant immunity.
Overexpression of wild‐type variant of GmBIR1 (WT‐GmBIR1) using transgenic soybean hairy roots significantly increased soybean susceptibility to SCN, whereas overexpression of kinase‐dead variant (KD‐GmBIR1) significantly increased plant resistance. Transcriptome analysis revealed that genes oppositely regulated in WT‐GmBIR1 and KD‐GmBIR1 upon SCN infection were enriched primarily in defense and immunity‐related functions. Quantitative phosphoproteomic analysis identified 208 proteins as putative substrates of the GmBIR1 signaling pathway, 114 of which were differentially phosphorylated upon SCN infection. In addition, the phosphoproteomic data pointed to a role of the GmBIR1 signaling pathway in regulating alternative pre‐mRNA splicing. Genome‐wide analysis of splicing events provided compelling evidence supporting a role of the GmBIR1 signaling pathway in establishing alternative splicing during SCN infection.
Our results provide novel mechanistic insights into the function of the GmBIR1 signaling pathway in regulating soybean transcriptome and spliceome via differential phosphorylation of splicing factors and regulation of splicing events of pre‐mRNA decay‐ and spliceosome‐related genes.
Purpose
This paper aims to examine how role clarity mediates the effect of transformational leadership on job engagement and championing behavior in support of the conservation of resources theory.

The authors used a cross-sectional approach to collect data from managerial/nonmanagerial employees within the Pakistani hospitality industry via online and offline questionnaires. A total of 170 responses were used in the data analysis using partial least squares structural equation modeling to test the hypothesized relationships.
Findings
Findings show that transformational leadership directly predicts improved role clarity and job engagement. Moreover, role clarity leads to job engagement and championing behavior. Role clarity exhibits a partial mediation effect on job engagement and full mediation on championing behavior.
Originality/value
To bridge the gap in leadership literature, this research assesses the underlying effect of role clarity on the relationship between transformational leadership and its positive outcomes. It provides theoretical and managerial implications regarding the role of transformational leadership characteristics and outcomes.
Modern time-domain surveys continuously monitor large swaths of the sky to look for astronomical variability. Astrophysical discovery in such data sets is complicated by the fact that detections of ...real transient and variable sources are highly outnumbered by 'bogus' detections caused by imperfect subtractions, atmospheric effects and detector artefacts. In this work, we present a machine-learning (ML) framework for discovery of variability in time-domain imaging surveys. Our ML methods provide probabilistic statements, in near real time, about the degree to which each newly observed source is an astrophysically relevant source of variable brightness. We provide details about each of the analysis steps involved, including compilation of the training and testing sets, construction of descriptive image-based and contextual features, and optimization of the feature subset and model tuning parameters. Using a validation set of nearly 30 000 objects from the Palomar Transient Factory, we demonstrate a missed detection rate of at most 7.7 per cent at our chosen false-positive rate of 1 per cent for an optimized ML classifier of 23 features, selected to avoid feature correlation and overfitting from an initial library of 42 attributes. Importantly, we show that our classification methodology is insensitive to mislabelled training data up to a contamination of nearly 10 per cent, making it easier to compile sufficient training sets for accurate performance in future surveys. This ML framework, if so adopted, should enable the maximization of scientific gain from future synoptic survey and enable fast follow-up decisions on the vast amounts of streaming data produced by such experiments.
High Content Analysis (HCA) has become a cornerstone of cellular analysis within the drug discovery industry. To expand the capabilities of HCA, we have applied the same analysis methods, validated ...in numerous mammalian cell models, to microbiology methodology. Image acquisition and analysis of various microbial samples, ranging from pure cultures to culture mixtures containing up to three different bacterial species, were quantified and identified using various machine learning processes. These HCA techniques allow for faster cell enumeration than standard agar-plating methods, identification of "viable but not plate culturable" microbe phenotype, classification of antibiotic treatment effects, and identification of individual microbial strains in mixed cultures. These methods greatly expand the utility of HCA methods and automate tedious and low-throughput standard microbiological methods.

This literature review aims to examine the relationship between Green Human Resource Management (G-HRM) practices and various outcomes, including employee green attitudes, employee green ...satisfaction, client green satisfaction, employee green behavior, and organizational green performance. We reviewed existing literature on G-HRM practices and their impact on the selected outcomes. The review process involved the identification of articles through a systematic search in Scopus and Web of Science databases from January 2013 to December 2023. The search retrieved 2142 citations; of them, a total of 17 articles were deemed eligible for this review. The reviewed literature provides good evidence supporting a positive predictive relationship between G-HRM practices and employee green attitudes, employee green satisfaction, client green satisfaction, employee green behavior, and organizational green performance. However, there is a notable gap in studies exploring the influence of G-HRM practices on employee and client satisfaction. Overall, G-HRM practices emerge as a crucial tool for fostering environmentally conscious attitudes and behaviors among employees, ultimately contributing to enhanced employee satisfaction and improved organizational ecological performance. Future research should pay attention to the mechanisms underlying these relationships and explore potential moderating factors to enrich our understanding of the interrelated dynamics between G-HRM practices and sustainable outcomes.
While pre-clinical Torsades de Pointes (TdP) risk classifiers had initially been based on drug-induced block of hERG potassium channels, it is now well established that improved risk prediction can ...be achieved by considering block of non-hERG ion channels. The current multi-channel TdP classifiers can be categorized into two classes. First, the classifiers that take as input the values of drug-induced block of ion channels (direct features). Second, the classifiers that are built on features extracted from output of the drug-induced multi-channel blockage simulations in the
models (derived features). The classifiers built on derived features have thus far not consistently provided increased prediction accuracies, and hence casts doubt on the value of such approaches given the cost of including biophysical detail. Here, we propose a new two-step method for TdP risk classification, referred to as Multi-Channel Blockage at Early After Depolarization (MCB@EAD). In the first step, we classified the compound that produced insufficient hERG block as non-torsadogenic. In the second step, the role of non-hERG channels to modulate TdP risk are considered by constructing classifiers based on direct or derived features at critical hERG block concentrations that generates EADs in the computational cardiac cell models. MCB@EAD provides comparable or superior TdP risk classification of the drugs from the direct features in tests against published methods. TdP risk for the drugs highly correlated to the propensity to generate EADs in the model. However, the derived features of the biophysical models did not improve the predictive capability for TdP risk assessment.

Many would have probably answered (like me) that they learned about Haydn through their parents, thus revealing the book as a document of upper-middle class tastes, passed as part our cultural capital from one generation to the next.
Health-related social needs are associated with poor health outcomes. Many primary care practices now screen and refer patients with health-related social needs to assistance organizations, but some ...patients decline screening or assistance. Improving communication about health-related social needs screening and referral could increase screening response and assistance acceptance rates.
This is a pragmatic, nonrandomized 3-stage trial of messages and communication strategies for health-related social needs screening and referral. Messages and strategies were informed by qualitative analysis of stakeholder interviews and were developed through an iterative, patient-, and stakeholder-engaged process.
Settings included 3 primary care clinics serving primarily low-income patients in western Colorado.
Stage 1 includes usual clinic processes for health-related social needs screening (form given to patients at the front desk without additional explanation), Stage 2 includes adding written patient-friendly messages regarding the purpose of health-related social needs screening and referral to usual clinic processes, and Stage 3 includes adding verbal messages delivered by a medical assistant (form given to patients by a medical assistant during the rooming process).
Primary outcomes include (1) screening form response rate and (2) acceptance of referral for assistance rate among patients with health-related social needs. Secondary outcomes include (1) comfort with screening, (2) perceived helpfulness of screening, and (3) receipt of explanation about screening.
All data collection and analysis occurred in 2021. Study Stage 2 was not associated with significant changes in any outcomes. Stage 3 was associated with decreased odds of screening form response at 2 of the 3 clinics relative to those of Stage 1 (OR=0.1, 95% CI=0.1, 0.3; OR=0.4, 95% CI=0.2, 0.7) but with increased odds of assistance acceptance (OR=2.1, 95% CI=1.1, 4.0) among patients with needs who responded to the screening form. Stage 3 was also associated with higher odds of patients perceiving screening as helpful and receiving an explanation about screening.
Altering practice workflows to provide verbal explanations of health-related social needs screening may reduce response rates but may encourage responders to accept assistance referrals. Optimal communication strategies and workflows will likely differ depending on the intended goals of health-related social needs screening and referral.
In the published studies of early liver transplantation (LT) for alcohol-associated hepatitis (AH), patients with a prior liver decompensation are excluded. The appropriateness of this criteria is ...unknown.
Among 6 American Consortium of Early Liver Transplantation for Alcohol-Associated Hepatitis sites, we included consecutive early LT for clinically diagnosed AH between 2007 and 2020. Patients were stratified as first vs prior history of liver decompensation, with the latter defined as a diagnosis of ascites, hepatic encephalopathy, variceal bleeding, or jaundice, and evidence of alcohol use after this event. Adjusted Cox regression assessed the association of first (vs prior) decompensation with post-LT mortality and harmful (i.e., any binge and/or frequent) alcohol use.
A total of 241 LT recipients (210 first vs 31 prior decompensation) were included: median age 43 vs 38 years ( P = 0.23), Model for End-Stage Liver Disease Sodium score of 39 vs 39 ( P = 0.98), and follow-up after LT 2.3 vs 1.7 years ( P = 0.08). Unadjusted 1- and 3-year survival among first vs prior decompensation was 93% (95% confidence interval CI 89%-96%) vs 86% (95% CI 66%-94%) and 85% (95% CI 79%-90%) vs 78% (95% CI 57%-89%). Prior (vs first) decompensation was associated with higher adjusted post-LT mortality (adjusted hazard ratio 2.72, 95% CI 1.61-4.59) and harmful alcohol use (adjusted hazard ratio 1.77, 95% CI 1.07-2.94).
Prior liver decompensation was associated with higher risk of post-LT mortality and harmful alcohol use. These results are a preliminary safety signal and validate first decompensation as a criterion for consideration in early LT for AH patients. However, the high 3-year survival suggests a survival benefit for early LT and the need for larger studies to refine this criterion. These results suggest that prior liver decompensation is a risk factor, but not an absolute contraindication to early LT.
