Production of cytokines and growth factors by cultured human umbilical cord tissue- and bone marrow-derived multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells was measured by multiplex analysis. In most cases, ...the concentrations of bioactive factors in the culture medium conditioned by umbilical cord-derived cells was ten- to hundred-times higher than in the medium conditioned by bone marrow-derived cells. These results suggest that both multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells from the umbilical cord and cell-free products can have more pronounced therapeutic effect in comparison with mesenchymal stromal cells obtained from “adult” sources.
The study included umbilical cord blood samples (
n
=64) intended for cryogenic storage of hematopoietic stem cells and obtained from patients with a history of mild and moderate forms of COVID-19 ...during pregnancy. The control group was composed of samples (
n
=746) obtained from healthy women in labor. A comparative analysis of the volume of cord blood collected, the total leukocyte count, the relative and absolute content of cells with the CD34
+
/CD45
+
phenotype revealed no significant differences between the groups.
The concentrations of cytokines and growth factors in human umbilical cord blood serum and plasma samples were measured by multiplex analysis. It was found that in comparison with peripheral blood ...serum of adult donors, umbilical cord blood serum and plasma contain significantly higher concentrations of the most studied molecules including IL-4, 5, 6, 7, 10 and 15, MCP-1, SCF, and SDF, as well as growth factors directly involved in the processes of regeneration (G-CSF, HGF, PDGF-BB, and VEGF). Thus, umbilical cord blood plasma and especially serum are a rich source of cytokines and growth factors with anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic, and angiogenic effects and can be used in various fields of regenerative medicine.
Using multiplex analysis, we performed a comparative study of cytokine and growth factor production by human umbilical cord tissue-derived multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells (UC-MSC) cultured ...under standard conditions and in the presence of human umbilical cord blood serum (UCBS). It was found that the secretion of most studied molecules, including well-known inductors of regeneration HGF, G-CSF, GM-CSF, and VEGF by UCMSC considerably increased in the presence of 5% UCBS. The use of UCBS allows not only obtaining xenogenic-free cellular and cell-free therapeutic products, but also increasing the secretion of most biologically active molecules capable of stimulating repair processes.

This article is devoted to development of an automated service for media content delivery network when adaptive online streaming on the Internet. This allows automatically adjusting of the amount of ...transmitted data per unit of time (bitrate) with changing in quality of requested media content accordingly. Consequently, the quality will be underestimated to those using low-bandwidth data channels, and vice versa, the content will be provided with highest possible quality for those connected to high-bandwidth communication channels. In this process, a user does not take any part: client video player itself determines which bitrate will optimally display the content to a particular user in order to avoid video buffering with the highest possible quality ensured. Switching between bitrates can occur continuously with a decrease/increase according to changes in quality of currently available bandwidth. In addition to adaptive video broadcast, the developed service allows transcoding of video streams on the fly. After receiving of input RTSP/RTMP stream, the network converts it to RTMP/HLS multi-bitrate, resulting in the generation of video streams of different quality which can be supported by both mobile devices and personal computers.

Many researchers have recognized the long distance teleconnections between El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) events and some other processes in the global climate system happening in areas often ...very far from the equatorial zone of the Pacific Ocean. In this paper we investigate similar links between ENSO and extratropical processes taken in their whole set. For this goal we compute differences between the sea-level pressure and the near-surface air (sea surface) temperature global fields which correspond to either El Niño or La Niña events observed since the end of the XIX century and up to the beginning of the XXI century. As a result, we establish that an integrity exists of ENSO and the extratropical teleconnections such as North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO), Arctic Oscillation (AO), the Northern Hemisphere annular (NHA) mode as well as the Pacific–North American (PNA) pattern, and their analogs in the Southern Hemisphere in the interannual timescale. Named this integrity the Global Atmospheric Oscillation (GAO), we define two representative indices of GAO, and investigate the temporal dynamics of these indices. This investigation reveals that GAO’s extratropical components may be real irrespective of ENSO while the latter accompanies GAO in all cases. Moreover, in view of a general eastward propagation of the GAO as a spatial structure, some its extratropical components show changes of their features prior the El Niño (La Niña) begins to form. Using these features as fingerprints of the forthcoming evolution of ENSO, we define another GAO index for the El Niño prediction with the lead-time of about 1 year. At last, we establish that some of the CMIP5-models reproduce GAO reasonably well.
We analyzed the effect of cryopreservation on the expression of glutathione peroxidase (
GPX1
) and glutathione reductase (
GSR
) genes in human sperm cells (15 sperm samples from fertile donors and ...10 samples from infertile patients). The relative expression of
GPX1
and
GSR
genes was determined by real-time PCR. The rate of post-thaw recovery was 2.1 times higher in the group of fertile donors. A significant increase in the expression of
GPX1
, but not
GSR
, was observed in sperm samples from infertile patients, while in patients with infertility,
GPX1
expression significantly decreased after cryopreservation/thawing, in samples from fertile donors after the same procedure it increased to the level observed in the sperm samples from infertile patients. A positive correlation was revealed between
GPX1
expression and sperm cryotolerance.
